  1. Ok - so how much performance can really be gained from using the upscaler? If I'm struggling to keep my 45 fps low over high dense trees or buildings/units. Should i be dropping the OXRDT custom resolution down more or using OXRTK upscaler? And how much for the upscaler? Do i just try like 90 or 110% and go from there to re-check if i'm getting to the 45 target? I'm trying to wrap my head around how powerful the upscaling is for performance gains. Thanks for suffering all my questions. Hopefully others are learning as well
  2. Ok generally I am finding things smooth with the following: AMD Chill off OXRTK No upscale / MR "ON" FPS locked at 45. (I try unlocked and the FPS plummet into the teens and I feel like it gets stuttery. OXRDT - 90% custom resolution (can't really see a difference but i *think* its giving me enough fps to stay above 45 DCS MSAA x2, Textures HIGH, Terrain Textures on LOW. Clouds standard, Vis MEDIUM, Aniso 16X Is there any real reason to use upscale? Is there a way to balance the upscale against the 90% Custom resolution i have set in OXRDT? I feel like a juggler.
  3. what does it mean if it says "Target missed" below my OXRTK FPS counter?
  4. Thanks all - I am on 22.5.1 in AMD. I dropped the Open XR Tools to 125% and the frames apprear to have returned. I'm still confused on the upscaler though. How do i know which direction from 100% i should scale? It works both ways so whats the test path i should follow to optimize? also - im not sure i understand the difference between default MR and MR "ON" and locked/unlocked in the System tab of toolkit. I'll check out Edmuss' thread on Toolkit - still also unsure on Edmuss' comment on the VRAM capacity resolution in the tools and how to leverage that information.
  5. OK - in my effort to understand things, I'd be open to suggestions. @edmuss - I turned off Radeon Chill, unlocked my MR in OpenXR ToolKit and increased my Custom Render in the OpenXR Tools for windows to 150%. I also reduced my Upscaling from 150% to 75%. Its kind of a jittery mess now. my in game FPS as per the DCS counter is showing 18-20 fps where it was around 45 before. I know the easy answer is to just revert the changes but I'd like to understand what kicked me in the pants with the changes? Which of the variables is my hog do you think? Man, I'd love to just sit on Discord with someone to get help dialing this in.
  6. Ok - i'll try the settings.. i had left the custom render in the desktop app (Open XR Tools for Windows) at Default. I'll give it a go with the OXR Tools for Windows set at 150% and work back from there for the custom resolution. Should MR be set to anything specific? I have it at "Disabled" but assume my toolkit settings are over-riding anything set in the desktop app. I looked in the second tab of OpenXR Tools (Labeled OpenXR Runtime) and see 16384 x 16384 under max swapchain size. I'm really not sure i am understanding what i am looking at there.
  7. Questions - I have 5800x, 6900 XT and 64 GB Ram. PD 1.0 Reverb G2v2. I really am struggling to understand the interplay of some of the OXRTK options and their effects. 1. Do i need to lock my fps at 45 if i am using reprojection in OXRTK? Should i leave Radeon Chill off? Should the Motion Reprojection be locked? I am running my G2 at 90Hz and currently have Chill locked at 45 and Motion Reprojection locked at 45... should these values be matching? 2. What is the difference between the OpenXR Tools Custom Render, The OpenXR Toolkit Upscale Size and Open XR Toolkit World Scale? These 3 all sound synonymous and I am unsure how they interplay to help my experience. 3. As I come up behind other planes in close formation the ~5 nm rear aspect looks like trash... the rear profile of the plane is broken and jagged. Is this what the OpenXR Toolkit Sharpening would help? I have MSAA/SSAA off and have 16x anisotropic. is there anything i can try to get that a bit less distorted/pixely?
  8. Hey all, I'm in need of a lift - or at least a little nudge as I have found myself losing my enthusiasm over VR the last few weeks. It was only this spring that i finally broke down and built a new PC and picked up a Reverb G2 v2. I have increasingly been finding myself disenchanted with VR and its implementation. I'm currently sitting on a 5800x, 64 GB Ram, 6900XT (that i paid far toomuch for just prior to the price crash) and my G2. I have installed OpenXR and the Toolkit and even read, viewed and researched the multitude of resources and suggestions around AMD and OXR/WMR I just feel like I am spending faaar too much time fiddling around trying to get things smooth, clear and in my sweetspot. Its more time fiddling than just enjoying the game. I'm locked at 45 fps and still drop below that sometimes and feel like the learning curve is still so high that I'll never get optimized. Then i look at the poor resolution in my G2 (compared to 4k on 2D and I just think... man with my rig I should just buy a 38" 4K monitor and go back to TrackIR. I'm sure i could drive some pretty nice visuals in 2D. Maybe VR isnt for me... how did the rest of you get over this funk? Thanks for any suggestions....
  9. Hey all. I am using a G2 with WMR/OXDT and OXTK. Everything is slowly getting dialed in but i noticed that when i am in headset taht there are 2 preivews of the game on my desktop - 1 in WMR window and another in a DCS window. I can't imagine this is helping my FPS. Is this normal? am I missing a dll to stop this from rendering on the desktop?
  10. ok - i got it to run in OpenXR again... now i have two icons in the config of the switcher... the generic windows icon for dcs and the proper dcs logo. It worked fine for a bit but now when i launch DCS it will bring up the in game menu just fine in the Reverb... but when i launch to fly the Reverb screen goes black yet the game is showing "in VR" on my 2D WMR window on the desktop. the cockpit will flash very briefly nthe headset before going blank. I repaired and deleted the .dll again but still have the problem. Works fine with SteamVR
  11. Hey all - I was using OpenXR successfully (albeit hardly optimized) for the last few weeks. I just migrated my DCS install over to a new NVME 2TB drive and now its launching in SteamVR again. When i go to the OpenComposite switcher, the DCS icon in the Configure tab is showing the DCS "generic" icon instead of the DCS logo. is there a step i am missing to point it back to the new DCS location?
  12. welp - i followed the instructions and did a clean/repair with skates tool. I downloaded openxr for windows and set it up as per the thread I did a manual install of the 64 bit dll into my DCS bin and renamed the D3Dcompiler. I hit launch on the desktop and it puts the vr hangar i used to see in steam vr on my desktop... I cant get it to load into the g2 at all. Any ideas?
  13. OOf ... i followed the instructions up to the OXRTK install - did a manual install of opencomposite dll into my dcs bin. tried to launch DCS and it launches to my monitor with the VR hangar. what went wrong? I really dont want to have to read all 92 pages
  14. Thanks - this sounds like a weekend project. I think I'm going to pull my DCS off the NVME and leave that to SVR games for the kids. I'll buy another NVME this weekend and reinstall DCS clean on that and point OXR that way. I'm looking forward to seeing what the difference will be. Maybe the smoother gameplay will help with the nausea
  15. Thanks @TED & @DeltaMike I really didnt fiddle with much since i started out but i think i'm ready to explore OpenXR. One question though... the kids like beatsabre and assetto corsica... can i keep steamVR around and force through openxr or do i need to abandon steamvr all together. I'll read through the instructions and let you know what i think in this thread. @TED thanks for the offer for a talk through... i read your other thread but it looks like you have experimented much further since your first post there. Kirk
  16. i just recently jumped in and have a XFX 6900xt black limited. HP Reverb G2gen2. Honestly- i didn't do a damn thing in terms of fiddling around.. i installed WMR and Steam VR and just launch DCS into VR. In single player it plays great. I'm working through VR nausea before i try multiplayer as i need to pause quite a bit to take a break. 6900xt is loud. I undervolted and created a custom fan curve to keep card temps below 75. - oh i also set radeon chill to cap my fps at 45 ... i had some stutters that i didnt like. Other than that it has actually been easier than i thought. Once i get my VR legs better maybe I'll start messing with OpenXR or other tweaks but as it stands I just don't see a need. Working fine for me.
  17. Just ordered the Reverb G2 gen2 from HP Canada. Have to admit i'm excited. more excited than i have been in a while with DCS> Hopefully I'll avoid all the cabling issues etc and have a smooth setup. Can someone point me to a definitive thread to get things setup / optimized for DCS?
  18. probably a RtFm issue but ... why when i do a cold start i dont see any HUD symbology in my IHADS/HMD sight?
  19. Thanks Bossco. I did notice that the radeon overlay is still reporting spikes above 60 fps even with Chill and V-Sync on. weird. I plan to buy a Reverb G2 soon so hopefully this groundwork getting things to stabilize will help with VR. Although I'll presume there will be a whole new round of tweaking required then. S!
  20. you know - i wasnt running any fps cap and i was running stock voltage. I have now set a custom fan curve, undervolted and used radeon chill to cap out at 60 frames on my 60 hz monitor. Now its super quiet and butter smooth. Never going above 75 deg C. I think it was the card pushing up to 144 fps that was making everything hot and loud. those kind of frames just arent needed i figure. Thanks for all the tips on undervolting ... that seemed to fix things. S!
  21. @CptBlighDo you mind if I ask ... what are your temps while playing DCS ? I can flip the fans easy enough. I do wonder though... when calculating positive/negative case pressure. do i include the PSU and GPU fans/exhausting or only consider the case fans?
  22. you know it made me realize that the old 1070 just wasn't aircooled like the new GPU are. I hadn't thought of that so increased noise over my sons gaming makes sense. As for undervolting, it looks simple enough but I'd be lying if i said it wasnt intimidating. Maybe I'll order my Reverb G2 and see if how i manage with temps and noise before i start walking things back from stock. unless thats a stupid strategy.. i get what you say about things being overvolted for simplicity at factory side. I feel like i just need to watch temps. from what i can tell temps in the 80 c range arent crazy.
  23. Hey all, I just finished my new PC build for DCS and spun it up in a Free Flight and then tried the Isle out. I have a few question for other 6900 XT owners. When the card fans kick in ... they are loud. I mean loud like adding another immersive level to my jet sim. The GPU is heating to about 75-80 deg which seems normal to my research online https://www.techpowerup.com/review/amd-radeon-rx-6900-xt/33.html My son is running the same CPU and MOBO combo but on a much older 1070. on same settings in the isle he is as quiet as a ninja. For the 6900 XT owners out there... is this normal? I am historically an NVIDIA user so i'm not sure if there is something else i should be doing on this big card build (spec in sig.) My case is a 5000D, 3 fans venting out front. top mount AIO/3 fan pulling in. 1 x rear fan venting out and the PSU mounted upside down to vent. Seems like i have good airflow. Whats this i hear about undervolting cards? would that help? is the default fan curve on these too high? thanks for any insight. S!
  24. I see the G2 is on sale in Canada. For those of you watching... is this sale an ongoing thing? Do they have sales at predictable times of the year? Is this a good price? Should I jump on this now? its like a 100$ off.... https://www.hp.com/ca-en/shop/offer.aspx?p=hp-reverb-g2-vr-headset Thanks
