  1. you know it made me realize that the old 1070 just wasn't aircooled like the new GPU are. I hadn't thought of that so increased noise over my sons gaming makes sense. As for undervolting, it looks simple enough but I'd be lying if i said it wasnt intimidating. Maybe I'll order my Reverb G2 and see if how i manage with temps and noise before i start walking things back from stock. unless thats a stupid strategy.. i get what you say about things being overvolted for simplicity at factory side. I feel like i just need to watch temps. from what i can tell temps in the 80 c range arent crazy.
  2. Hey all, I just finished my new PC build for DCS and spun it up in a Free Flight and then tried the Isle out. I have a few question for other 6900 XT owners. When the card fans kick in ... they are loud. I mean loud like adding another immersive level to my jet sim. The GPU is heating to about 75-80 deg which seems normal to my research online https://www.techpowerup.com/review/amd-radeon-rx-6900-xt/33.html My son is running the same CPU and MOBO combo but on a much older 1070. on same settings in the isle he is as quiet as a ninja. For the 6900 XT owners out there... is this normal? I am historically an NVIDIA user so i'm not sure if there is something else i should be doing on this big card build (spec in sig.) My case is a 5000D, 3 fans venting out front. top mount AIO/3 fan pulling in. 1 x rear fan venting out and the PSU mounted upside down to vent. Seems like i have good airflow. Whats this i hear about undervolting cards? would that help? is the default fan curve on these too high? thanks for any insight. S!
  3. I see the G2 is on sale in Canada. For those of you watching... is this sale an ongoing thing? Do they have sales at predictable times of the year? Is this a good price? Should I jump on this now? its like a 100$ off.... https://www.hp.com/ca-en/shop/offer.aspx?p=hp-reverb-g2-vr-headset Thanks
  4. just built a new pc and have a couple questions if I may: I took my old DCS Samsung 1TB SSD over from my old PC that had my install of DCS on. I have an NVME now that i installed windows on... should i keep running DCS off the Samsung or install fresh on the NVME? If i install DCS on the nvme, is there a way to point it to the SSD for all the maps and module installs (i'd like it to boot faster but the maps and modules take up soooo much space ) I maxed the graphics out just to check performance... my radeon 6900xt was at 77/78 deg C and my CPU with liquid cooling was at 50 deg. are they too hot? when i stopped the sim my cpu dropped to 38 deg c and the gpu to 50 deg C My new TUF Gaming Mobo doesnt have too many USB ports.... What are you guys doing / what should i consider in order to get my warthog/mfd/rudders hooked up cleanly? Thanks ... looking forward to flying again.
  5. ok - if that XFXSpeedster MERC319 Radeon RX 6900XT Limited Black is still there tomorrow I'll grab it.
  6. Ah man - that would be excellent @TED - Maybe I can help you put together an optimization video and upload it to support the use case. Might i ask what CPU you are running and the speed? I imagine that would influence performance. i am planning to liquid cool and boost the 5800x i have to squeeze more performance out. Cheers,
  7. Hey all, I have begun to accrue the parts for a new PC build and picked up a Ryzen 5800X + x570 TUF MOBO bundle yesterday. With the current GPU crisis on, i cannot find a 3080 Ti at a reasonable price anywhere. My local vendor does have a new 6900 XT he is trying to sell me and its not likely to last in stock. I am aware that VR in DCS likes the Nvidia line better but what does that mean? I mean, if i get the 6900 XT, VR will still work wont it?? I dont have any VR rig yet but am planning a bit ahead here... What would i be giving up if i grab that 6900 XT vs. waiting to get my hands on a 3080 Ti somewhere somehow? Should i just get the 6900 XT they have in stock before its gone? S!
  8. Today is Orthodox Christmas Eve. Merry Christmas to all ED staff celebrating over In Russia. Stay Safe and Sane !
  9. found this ... thinking of biting on it. It keeps my CPU with AMD and has a 3080 Ti in there. Again i think the PSU is a bit low and I worry about the fire hazard of those failing 850s i read about. Anything triggering red flags here? I'll upgrade the RAM later to 64 and gift the GSkill to my son. CPU: AMD RYZEN 9 5900X 3.70 GHz (4.80 GHz Max Boost), 12-Core 24-Thread GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 Ti 12GB (Brand may vary) Motherboard: Gigabyte X570 AORUS Master ATX Motherboard (WIFI) RAM: G.Skill TridentZ RGB 32GB DDR4 3200MHz (2x16GB) SSD: 1TB Gigabyte AORUS Gen4 M.2 NVMe SSD CPU Cooler: 240MM RGB AIO Liquid Cooling PSU: 850W 80 Plus Gold Case: Rosewill SPECTRA D100 ATX Mid Tower With Tempered Glass Case WiFi: Yes Bluetooth: Yes VR Ready: Yes Peripherals: Gaming Keyboard and Mouse (EVGA Z15 RGB Gaming Keyboard and EVGA X17 Gaming Mouse) Operating System: Windows 10 Pro 64-bit (free upgrade to Windows 11 upon release) Dimension: 18.50" x 8.27" x 17.32" *The Windows 11 upgrade will be delivered to qualifying devices late 2021 into 2022. Timing varies by device. Certain features require additional hardware (see aka.ms/windows11-spec) Thanks
  10. thanks Bit... i'll probably just go ahead and get parts together for a build. I appreciate the input. Thank you. K
  11. thanks guys - i'll see what i can find in canada for an nvidia build. I appreciate you taking the time to comment. K
  12. Hey all - My PC finally died and I have a chance to pick up a pre-build listed below... I am historically an INTEL/ NVIDIA user and this build is on the AMD/RADEON family. I don't know much in this area. How does this look: CPU: AMD RYZEN 7 5800X 8-Core 16-Thread 3.80 GHz (4.70 GHz Max Boost) GPU: Radeon RX 6800 16GB Motherboard: ASUS TUF Gaming X570-Plus (Wi-Fi) ATX Motherboard RAM: G.Skill TridentZ RGB 32GB DDR4 3200MHz (2x16GB) SSD: 1TB Gigabyte AORUS Gen4 M.2 NVMe SSD CPU Cooler: EVGA CLC 280MM AIO RGB PSU: 750W 80 Plus Gold Case: ASUS TUF Gaming GT501 Mid-Tower Aside from the PSU looking a bit low how do the other parameters look for DCS/potential for some VR play? Thanks
  13. ... Is this confirmation from the DCS ground Crew then that afghantistan is no longer (or never was) on the development roadmap?
  14. pm me sniper.... I'm game to wing up and can fly almost anything - dont own the f14 though. Saskatoon here.
  15. civilians have always been missing - I'd love to have an ME unit that I can attach triggers too. There is a nuance to CAS around confirming hostiles and minimizing collateral that is missing. I want to punish cowboy trigger itch in my missions if i can. give us some animations where they can accrue hints toward hostility... burying IED animation, uncovering an AK animation, give us reasons to have real conversations between our gunners/pilots.
  16. i have been here since flanker days and I actually agree. Whilst DcS has come a long way in terms of immersion, i would also like to round that immersive experience out with a bit of recovery simulation. Briefing room/scramble too for that matter. Give me proper "wasd" POV movement on ground. Give me a radio and smoke. Let me join a helo and be ferried back. It would be fun for me both as the CSAR helo pilot and the pilot on the ground. It would create player relationships too... i.e. " I'll always be in debt to "NorthStar98" for saving me and my logbook." I know its not a priority though but yeah - it would be fun and memorable... who wouldnt want that? Having proper logbook functionality would also be awesome... i want it to reflect my MP activity... show my LSO grades, my rescues/shootdowns. I don't want a FPS but I would like an square the corners off around a true mission experience.
  17. Hey all, I'd love to see either a DCS feature or external 3rd party application that would accommodate dynamic package briefings. With the increase in Dynamic MP campaigns and the longer missions (Blue-flag/DDCS/RedStorm etc) I am seeing in server lists, there seems to me a lack of direction for folks joining after mission start. The general briefing can always stay but I am thinking more of a briefing that is accessible where the packages and info change in response to the mission needs. I envision a tab accessible from role selection that can be clicked and pertinent flight/package requests can be selected. A player could then select a role within that package / time hack. This could achieve a few things: Increase more coordination of flight packages. CAP flights preceding SEAD for example. SEAD preceding CAS etc... Increase player matching in the packages. Player A and Player B may never have flown or taken off together but now they are in a scheduled package for 1700 hours lift off. Broaden communication usage. The flight package communication info would be listed along with targets. This would introduce some efficiency to comms for side missions. Maybe this is something that could be used by anyone occupying the commander or JTAC slots. Thus making it an attractive feature for Combined Arms. Just floating the balloon into the ether....
  18. just checked the forums again.. sorry i haven't been watching that closely. Yeah i can fly pretty much anything.. I'm focussed in on the 18 right now but i often will hop around to keep things fresh. How often do you guys fly? pm me your discord details and I can always reach out when I'm hopping on. S!
  19. Heya Wulph. Saskatoon SK here. I'm also looking for a new Canadian Group to fly with. PM me if you just want to wing up and fly some missions together.. happy to have a casual wingman. S!
  20. maybe the server is not updated to same version as you yet? just guessing... that is weird.

RIP - he was a solid skin maker for sure...
  22. good idea.... i'm going to play with that tonight and see if it works
  23. THANKS! That was super helpful and a great download. I am still hopeful that ED has a DCS sanctioned reference somewhere as I agree that sharing certain documentation can be problematic. Great resource though.
  24. I second this. I have been making some new reference cards for myself and would like to have a card for JTAC comms. I have searched everywhere and cannot seem to find any source that explains the comms tree when working with JTAC and their meaning... What does "10 seconds" do? What about "Sparkle" or "Snake" etc... Does anyone have a reference to the JTAC comms and what they mean?
