Make sure Flight Director is not switched on. That should make a difference, I find. Also, have Alt. Hold on, will help in constant hover altitude. :)

Gundawg, If you have HOTAS, then it should possess a hat switch. My old Logitech Freedom 2.4 has one and this should do as a mouselook function. I currently use a hatswitch on my X52pro as mouselook, albeit rather "robotic" in nature. To recentre, sacrifice one of your other buttons to centre view for a quick snap to front. Hamelkarl, I think you need a Webcam with at least 30fps. I could be wrong, as I haven't set mine up yet. Will have to give this a go (freetrack) on the weekend!

Yeah, me neither. I emptied both canisters and got no smoke. Just lot's of pretty tracers bouncing off!

All great replies! :) @GGtharos, So if there is still armour in a column of vehicles and you are bingo on Vikhrs, then best thing to do is RTB and reload? I have two pods of s80's. Surely they would do some damage, even knock one tank out of the game. As for guns, even AP don't do squat to an MBT like an Abrams. Are there no specific techniques for ending armour with rockets? @ 26-J39; thanks for the tip! :)

I think a detailed description on the best way to engage with rockets is needed. Maybe we could have some ideas posted here, instead of starting a new thread. I for one have a difficult time avoiding overspeed warning when I try to use rockets. Attempting to accuratly select the target and lining it up for the kill always brings me unstuck. I understand that rockets are an area affect weapon, but I still need to be able to remove armour targets when I have no guided weapons available. Detailed help would be greatly appreciated. Or even uploading a track to see how it's done properly would be even more helpful. Thanks.

:megalol: WoW in souther Russia!

Hi Triangle. I can't give you a definitive, but what I have done is use the target indicators on the ABRIS to line up my Shkval. What I mean is the Current viewpoint of the Shkval is indicated by a yellow line on the ABRIS. I move to have the end of the indicator over the target Icon, provided by recce. From there, I just set up an attack position at range. Is this similar to what you have been doing? It would be logical to have target markers in HUD as well...

Thanks for the update guys. So, I would assume that HH is only useful in a hovering attack/view position, using turn to target? So, by switching it off, I am able to fly low and fast in close terrain without trimming? If so, that sounds more like flying to me! :D I am going to jump on a training mission right now and give it a go!

Stay with it Leroy. Your perseverance will pay off. Just a couple of questions. Have you checked to se if your autopilots for pitch, roll and yaw are on? They are the little blue, square buttons on the righthand lower panel, just south of your nav aid panel. If these are not illuminated, then you're going to struggle. They dampen your inputs, so that you won't be fighting the cyclic all the time. Second, and this is a point, and not a question; when the chopper is drifting sideways, if you are going to correct with rudder, will only be bringing it from side slip to forward or backward movement. Counter any lateral movement with gentle opposite lateral input on the cyclic. Lastly, trim, trim , trim. It seems counterintuitive, but having you cyclic recentred after every input - even when banked and climbing - is very important for keeping control. Just so you have a 'handle' on the control regime, switch in the Controls Indicator (Ctrl+Enter). This will give you real time info on where your trimmed inputs are in relation to the neutral state of your controls. You will see what I mean when you trim first time. The idea, as far as I can tell, is this; Hold trim, move controls, release trim, release controls for new attitude/heading. Getting the coordination right is the hard part for me. letting the trim go at the right time and also recentring the cyclic can be a struggle. Stay with it, mate. In time you will tame the beast!

The labels will not show. They are, for want of a better term, part of the landscape. They are static objects like rocks and buildings. You will find the targets at WP 3, so as soon as you get to WP2, and turn to 3, initiate a hover, and set your Shkval to look a bit past WP 3. There will be a variety of bunkers, guard towers, tanks and, further on, trucks and BMPs. Check out page 2 of the mission breifing. It should show you approximately where they are.

Gery, you are so right! :) d.burnette: guns can be used in a similar setup to Vihkr. Approach for auto hover (you'll probably need to be closer than 1.5km from target), setup your Shkval, master arm, clear the gun trigger, oh, and don't forget to switch on turn to target (Q). Really helpful. Also, set HE rounds. Make sure the guns are not in fxed boresight position. They need to be able to track your targets. I don't think you'll need laser on Standby for troops, only to rangefind to see if you're close enough - your HUD reticle should show this as well. To any vets here, please correct me/enhace my explaination as required. I hate to stear anyone astray.

@d.burnette, Parabellums tutorial is really very helpful. I have flown the mission at least 5 times, now; 2 times successfully :) But, believe it or not, I still have trouble with the shooting range! Getting myself setup and trying to take out tanks that don't shoot back should be a doddle. The problem for me is, whenever I expend all remaining, by the time I get back to airfield and load up again, it's dark! I have noticed that it takes between 2 and 3 Vihkrs to kill one of these tanks. I am not too close to minimum range, AFAIK, and my Shkval reticle is locked and squared up with no ground in frame (if that makes sense). Is this normal? BTW, I am not quite skilled up yet to use unguided rockets. Just can't quite line 'em up safely.

TBH, getting the Shark off the ground at any time is exiting! :D From a noobs perspective, anyway...
-
I will reinforce my noobishness by the following: If you already have a pre planned flight path, with all WP's set, then why would would you not use AP? Disengaging AP is straightforward if you need to. I don't mean for this to sound like a challenge. I am curious as to what instances you would favour a manual route over AP managed route.

AFAIK, modern UAV's can perform auto return and land after losing links with ground operators. I am not 100% certain, but I think Global Hawk is a truly pilotless UAV, i.e. "autopilot", performing entire sorties autonomously. Achoice, with regard to your original question, I believe I have experienced something similar to what you describe. I pinpointed the problem for my experience to my bird entering VRS (vortex ring state), as I flared too aggressively, and with too much collective to pull it up in a short distance from a high forward velocity. Just a guess, but it sounds familiar.

G'day! Hi folks. :) I have posted in Meet and Greet under Reality thread, but I thought I'd post a greeting here! Been "flying" this helo for about 2 weeks now, but only just starting to get serious in sim mode. After reading Dummy's Guide to BS by Parabellum, I realised the truth of jumping into Sim mode right from the beginning. I found that flying in game mode makes me a bit slack, PLUS, I don't get the full benefit of the sim experience. So, I am saying a big hello and maybe I'll see you in a MP server sometime. BTW, any other Aussie flyers here? Maybe from South Australia? Cheers, Spuddy.

Hello All! Greetings! I am a 38yo CAD monkey, who lives in South Australia. I saw the sim (BS) mentioned in The Older Gamers community (active member, here). I bought the boxed release at EB games and was blown away! Sadly, the last sim I played was F18 Strike on the old Amiga (if you can call it simming). Been doing various other 'games', but the Shark has gotten a firm hold of me! It has an awesome degree of realism that I now see I have been looking for for all these years. Needless to say, I am a rank noob, but I am covering the flight manual as often as I can and flying just as much, often whilst having the manual open in front of me! I have an X52 PRO - bought it just for BS - and am starting to get used to it. I also have it in mind to set up a quick and dirty simpit, because desk flying is just....unnatural.:joystick: Anyhoo, I will hopefully be flying confidently within the next 12 months - hey, we all need goals, right?:D
