I've been flying since August last year and about 70% has been online. I flew with the VAAF who taught me a great deal. That being said, it is AU$90 off the shelf here and any 15 year old kid who's thinking BS is like BF2 or ARMA where the gunships are easy to fly is clearly mistaken, but this does not mean they should be excluded because of poor ability. TK'ers to be kicked and banned - that I can understand, but not every one can be "733t". :) It has been said in previous posts, but I'll add to it anyway: Lock out your server if you want to exclude noobs. Form an elite squadron of your own, at the exclusion of all others, and challenge other elite (or not so, as the case may be) squadrons in friendlies and scrims. I am like Grimes in that I still use the startup "aide" (thnx for making it sound so much more acceptible, Grimes :)), but also understand weapon systems, ABRIS, AP behavior and when to employ it, flight dynamics and so on. Only because I am passionate about helicopters. These "piss poor fliers" might have a similar passion, but don't spend the necessary time reading the manual, going through tutorials, etc, that's all. True about it being a simulation, and kudos for showing respect, but not everyone has the attention of real-world path to flying as you may have. Hell, I even bought my first RC helicopter before I ever flew a fixed wing model - light and fluffy analogy, I know, but I'm sure you understand what I mean :). I have personally helped one new flyer (name escapes me) in clearing out some static targets (tanks) on J's AEF server last year. I could see it was difficult for him to get control of the ship in the first place, but the gratitude I recieved and the elation he showed when he got it was great! Repsect the new player. They can and probably will be just as good in time.

My first successfull mission on the first try!
astrospud replied to Prophet4no1's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
Nice job, Prophet! I need some SP time too, I think. Spend most of my time in MP. My missus is currently playing facebook mini games, so I can play as much as want. :D yeah, I know. rubbing it in... -
The easiest way I found is to have the game in window mode (or if you have more than one monitor, have game in one monitor...) and have the game controller properties window for your X52 open in another (window/monitor). That way, you can get feed back directly from the controller properties window as you press joystick buttons, and corelate them to the button numbers in the Game settings. As you press a button, the corresponding game controller button ID should light up. Do not confuse this game controller properties window with the SST window. You acces the Game controllers properties window from Windows control panel.

Yeah, if you are going to use POV mapping, I suggest using POV hat on cyclic. I used to use that, but now, I use TIR :). Even before I still use clutch button to re centre view (numpad 5). Remember to disable clutch function in your game controller panel.

I've tried, but...I need backup I can communicate with! :P Seriously, It's more fun being pwned in good company :D.

I've managed to sort it out the blues and the CTD's by shutting down the process that controls the MFD (I cannot recall, Senator). I miss out on all the cool stuff on MFD, but.....meh. My DCS works now :).

Agree with Bogusheadbox (cool handle, BTW :)). I have started with a comprehensive profile that ended up being cut back to only a handful of SST controlled functions. The rest I have programmed directly into the sim control list. I have had issues (bluescreen, CTD, etc) with the SST software being used, but your situation may prove completely stable. Mine is different in that I use button 1 (Trigger Fire) to fire both canon and launch weapons. This is done via mode 1 and 2 change. Mode one trigger fires hardpoints (missiles) and mode 2 fires canon. POV hat controls Shkval. All other usable buttons are programmed ingame.

Beautiful piece of flying there, Dragon. Better than mine by far! The exact same thing happened to me last Friday on the AEF server, except I lost my left wing by a tank round. I'd like to post the TRK file but it's quite large. Thanks again to AEF for hosting and being a great bunch of guys and thank you too for making such enjoyable missions :).

Trim / Auto Hover Problem! Plz Help
astrospud replied to Unicorn0578's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
Actually, I've found that engaging autohover before disengaging FD sets up my hover more stable. If I disengage FD first, then engage AH, she tends to buck like a cranky mule.. -
What are Black Shark pilots expecting from BS/FC2 Mulltiplay servers?
astrospud replied to Grimes's topic in Multiplayer
I think there would need to be minimum participation from CAP players, CAS players and BS pilots alike. For example, on FPS ranked servers, there is a minimum number of slots needed to be filled on both sides before a match can commence. I think even in a co-op mission, at least one slot needs of each to be occupied if the mission contains elements of close air support, air cover and SAM/AAA elimination. I don't think it would work otherwise.. Pls correct me if this kind of minimum player requirement already exists in LOMAC/LOFC MP missions, as I don't have these. -
Funny..I've been fooled many times by wrecked vehicles (within a second or two). Seems I have the mental power less than that of a 486Dx4!!:megalol:

Thanks! Seems to work. Didn't know what I was doing wrong...

I have found that in the Temp directory under the game folder (C:\Program Files\Eagle Dynamics\Ka-50\Temp) stores all the miz and trk files for Multiplayer games. I have tried to load up some of these .trk files into replay theatre to capture some Fraps, but when I load them up, nothing really seems to be going on. Map view works and airfield view works, but no spawning of helos. Do these files actually record the whole session flown on an online server? I would love to get some online game footage without having to sit in spectators and record from there... Cheers. :)

I'm a BS noob and I fly with labels off. If labels is cheating (sort of :)) then zoom is also in that grey zone. While I don't use labels, I use zoom often when hunting for targets - or as the case is normally, searching for enemies shooting at me! I have particular issues spotting enemy aircraft, so I might try cheat in future. I know it's beyond the reality aspects of the sim, but...meh! :) @Frederf BTW, can you point me in the direction of those label mods, pls?

How exactly do I stabilize my airspeed?
astrospud replied to Chopper_Pork's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
Well GG, I am certain you would be the first to affirm that it does take time. Formation is helping me steer away from the "yank and bank", as you put it, but it is a learnt process. It's not simple, by any means. I always try to remember where I came from when I gather any amount of experience. BTW, what do you mean by "spiky stick"? Are you talking cheap joystick with poor centering? -
Now, Chuck Norris would be great as a front seat guy! :) FSX Acceleration? The EH 101 is top helo doing just that, sans inserting/extracting AI troops. There is a mission where you have to rescue skiers on a mountain side. Actually there are a couple SAR missions in FSX Acceleration. Might be worth a look. ;) If the AI in a new DCS module is anything like the AI in the current BS Apache, then we're in trouble. I flew my first air to air mission 2 days ago and thought I would crash and burn. 3 hellfire misses and several bursts of the bushmaster and I came out unscathed!! The pilot even moved infront of me where I pwned him with gunfire. I actually felt a bit disappointed...

How exactly do I stabilize my airspeed?
astrospud replied to Chopper_Pork's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
Rgr. I was thinking this, as I have only flown a few formations and I'm finding my speed is moving around a bit, between 5 and 10km/h variance. This is a rough estimate, but it gives you the idea that, although I can keep formation most times, my view is locked on the lead ship and not on my instruments. -
Not that I'm an expert (far from it) but I'm guessing fire control and freqs on the Longbow system are too sensitive for commercial release. Also, how would ED model a 2 man team anyhow?

How exactly do I stabilize my airspeed?
astrospud replied to Chopper_Pork's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
I have particular trouble holding a stable formation with other flyers (MP). Principally, I fix my view on the lead aircraft and with micro adjustments, try to maintain a good pattern. Not always successful, and tiring as all hell, as I have to concentrate on the lead 100% of the time. Can be up to 10 minutes between w/p!! There has to be an easier way.... -
dang! I have the master of DCS machinima differing from what I have chosen! Have you done any ship videos yet, GA?

Seems Numlock might be the way to go. Cheers.

New Mission - Trouble at the Dam
astrospud replied to ronht's topic in User Created Missions General
Thanks Namenlos Ein. Will fire it up soon! :) -
Given that DCS:BS occupies pretty much most of the keyboard, can someone tell me what would be a good Start/stop button when using FRAPS? I use scroll lock for TS, so that's out of the equation... Thx.

Seems the Bulgarians are trying to conserve their ammo: the 25 fires for about quarter the time the hog does. :music_whistling:

A wee bit late, but maybe start an X-fire or Steam account and you can hook up with potential co-op flyers when you see them (as steam or XF friends) online. Just ping a PM to ppl and see if they want to fly, if not already on a server.
