G'day Gross. Welcome to the forum :). Great bunch of people here - very helpful, too. I ordered LOMAC CD a couple weeks ago (needed that for FC2) and it took about a week to get here in South Australia. Shouldn't be any more than 2 weeks. You WILL be hooked, as I am. I love aviation, but am obsessed with helicopters! Runways are for stick-figured fashion models, I say! Anyhoo, as stated before read the manual to get the theory, then practice, practice, practice... Since you are in Australia, once you are set up, patched and informed on basic systems, send me a PM, and I'll fly with ya on one ofthe MP servers (I currently fly on the 104th server - great bunch of guys, even if they shoot at you!). Welcome aboard :).

tracks in 104th Server have locked views...

Not sure what I did wrong, Moa... Works now :S Maybe started up multiple instances of the player and locked it up. Thnx! -

Replay.bat does work in BS as indicated in the thread by Case. I did, however, have trouble with LOTTU for both BS and FC2. Loaded up the tracks, set the variables and hit play (even after save), with no effect. Any ideas? -

Well, Replay works fine in FC2 :). Thanks Case! -

OK, possible stupid question... Does this replay concept work with DCS? -

astrospud replied to astrospud's topic in User Created Missions General
Thanks for posting, Case. I will look at it in detail when I get home after work. :) -
I am trying to Fraps some video of my escapades on the 104th Server, I am finding it very difficult to get any decent video due to the locked views in the tracks. I totally understand locking views during game, but I would like to know if there is anyway to have total camera freedom whilst reviewing tracks from said server... Many thanks to the guys at the 104th for hosting, too! :) Cheers.

I understand it may require a lot of work, but a clickable cockpit for all FC2 a/c would be nice.

hehe! When I say machine shop, I mean a lathe and a mill. nothing fancy like CNC,although my mill is a convertible... Once I break ground, I will let you know ;)

So far I'm chasing up ideas and some tech in order to put a system together. Whereas I don't have a CNC setup (yet!), I do have a small machine shop that I hope to use to fabricate some stuff soon. I was going to start with the simplest, that being the pedals. I've started turning some aluminium (or aluminum to our US friends :D) for the pedal bars. I am a draftsman, so you'd think I'd be on the PC whipping up designs left right and centre...lol! Any time I'm on the computer at home, I'm checking mail, posting here or probably playing BS!! ;) Time to knuckle down and get stuck into it! And I have to thank you, and all the other pit builders here to inspire me. Cheers. Marc

Hi Pete, Just a suggestion on the centering of the of your inputs. I was thinking of a spring loaded ball bearing and small machined slots (very fine) for a centre detent. Similar for the peddle inputs. Not sure how it could tie into your setup - perhaps a sprung telescoping tube on the end of the cyclic assy. linked to a gymble connected to a horizontal travelling plate. The plate would have the sprung ball bearing recessed in the bottom and the slots machined into a bottom plate. There would need to be copious amounts of silicon grease to keep everything from binding up, but I suppose some Teflon sheet would do, too. One quick question on the friction plates: what materials did you use? Neoprene or similar? Cheers, Marc

Flew today on the 104th server. Thanks a heap for hosting, guys. Great fun and there were good guys to fly with - Hicks, Kreps, Loops, Madmax, Talon. Was my first time on the 104th server and the first time for me in a while squadding up. Many thanks to all involved :).

OK, mirror worked out of IE. Must be a Chrome issue.
-
I have to go with Pheonix FR on this. I use Chrome and the initial link gave me an Archive integrity check failed message too, although I run Vista 32...trying the mirror now. EDIT: Mirror failed as well. will try IE (shudder...)

Smokeys are S-8TsM's, AFAIK, and are generally useful to 3km, and they are unguided. I have not used them yet, so I could need clarification on range and possible approach.

Quick learner! And yep, landing the first time is a real buzz! You'll get that feeling again, as there are many firsts...first kill, first frigate landing...

Hi Crc. Beautiful setup, mate. I am truly envious. I have since set up a small machine shop in my garage to start tinkering with possible flight control models. I came across this guy on youtube, and your issue with a friction stop reminded me of it - check out 0:56. Looks like a cabinet hinge guide of some kind: Once again, truly inspirational :)

Check to see in options whether you have set Simulation mode and not game mode. The 2 have individual control regimes, which may be why you are missing axis assignments.

Saitek X52Pro BlackShark keystroke mixing
astrospud replied to Mano's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Hi Mano, I had a problem with my MFD. I don't believe your problem is due to the rotary axis assignments...Feel free to check out my post here for a possible solution. I applied a minimum SST profile and programmed all other inputs in game. Unlike Sarge, I don't have a shift function for pinky button - I reserve that for trimmer. Personal preference makes for such a diverse range of profiles, as Sarge says.. -
Yeah, Freetrack offers similar function to the full commercial product, but using a hacked webcam and some LED's. However, I have read that some folk fly happily with top hat POV controls to look around. Of course you don't get the same degree of situational awareness as with TIR, but you can get by... Of course, when you do get TIR/Freetrack, you'll never go back to POV buttons!

Hi Conure! Welcome :). Lots of very talented and informative people here. You'll be hooked, if not already! Now, if TrackIR is a tad beyond your means at the moment, then the alternative that many have taken up is Freetrack. If you are not anxious about using a soldering iron, then this will help a lot. ;). Good Hunting!
-
Just out of curiosity, do you have TIR running? By default, I believe F7 is bound to precision tracking. Even if you are in mission editor, this may conflict with the ME input. This is the only thing I can think of.. I hope it helps :).

Is there no free flight to pratice manouvers?
astrospud replied to Veers's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
=STP= Dragon281 made a training pack which has free flight miz files. Check out them out here: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=46354 -
I have had some issues with input lag mapping everything thru SST, so I have mapped a minimal amount of commands thru it and instead, use ingame mapping for the rest. The only changes made are mapping 2 modes for firing thru the trigger - mode one for canon and mode 2 for hardpoints. This is so I only have to use the one input for different weapons.
-
If you intend on using Saitek SST mapping instead of ingame mapping, then remove all key bindings in game. This does not include axis commands. I think they must remain mapped in DCS:BS. After you have set up your SST mapping, save, close the SST editor, then rightclick the Saitek tray icon, and reload your profile. Start DCS:BS. This is the only thing I can think of. It's not simply a matter of mapping the keys in SST. You must initialise the FCS to that profile. Also, check that the startup profile is DCS:BS (or whatever you have called it). Otherwise you will have to reinitialise before every game. Can't think of anything else, Mike. I hope it works for you. :)
