Campaign Deployment, mission Escort
Wayc00lio replied to Wayc00lio's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
Well they certainly don't come out, but are obviously present in the trees. I can't get sight of them at all. Having said that, on previous attempts when I had BS installed before they were just standing out in the fields when they did appear. Now I've re-installed it seems as though they are well and truly hidden in amongst the trees. maybe I just need to blast rockets at the trees and hope for the best! -
Every time I fly this I get beaten. I escort the convoy through the hills and I fly a couple of clicks in front, set up in a good position but I can never see the enemy troops. They are hidden in the forest. I deploy rockets into the bush where I see their orange tracer rounds coming from but to no avail. I try flattening the houses but the rockets always take me down. Its hard!! And this is supposed to be an easy mission - what with it being the first proper mission after the Fam Flight. Also I ask the wingy to engage targets but he comes back saying negative. Any tips on this mission? It's very frustrating!

Yeah - Funct 2. The one with NAV below it. I was typing off memory - my bad!

Yep - make sure your mfd is showing the CDU, click Funct then 3 on the UFC, click divert on the CDU and then click the airport you are going to land at. All relevant info can be found there.

GAI= Ground Alert Intercept -like stby, ready to go and attack on request, usually from the ramp. A bit like a QRA ac but in a ground attack role. AFAC = Airbourne Forward Air Controller - controls ac around hostile areas and calls in close air support attacks on the enemy positions. Is positioned inside an ac and flies about calling in attacks. As opposed to a JTAC, which is usually from a ground based platform.

Non-communicative AI wingmen ("Defend Camp Yankee", other missions)
Wayc00lio replied to Bahger's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
NP Bahger :-) Gotta love the Tonka eh!!! Shame the freqs were omitted but at least you found the correct one in the end. I use the guard freq when not needing to contact anyone else to keep up my SA, it's handy then to have the flight freq on another radio to issue orders while still hearing the rest of the air war on the top radio. -
Yeah, I always change my loadout too. Just like in Falcon. Take the weapons you want for a particular mission. Definately take up a TGP too as this will aid you in IDing targets. Also, when you think you have found your target, press F5 "contact" and JTAC will tell you if you have the correct assigned target. Then turn round, get some distance and reattack. It's better to be sure than rush in and start throwing MAVs around willy nilly. The DC01 mission will have you looking for T80s, but behind them will be columns of IFVs. There are two groups of lines of moving vehicles. Make sure you have the correct group. Just keep firing a single MAV at the lead vehicle. That will bunch them up and stall them. Go around and keep an eye on them and when they form up into a column again, kill the lead vehicle again and they will bunch up and stop again. This is how you stall the advance and win the mission. I did it for both groups of columns and kept egressing to adder and then turning hot for the reattack if they started moving again.

124 is the guard freq - you'll hear all flights transmitting on guard on this freq including your own flight. If you transmit on this freq then ALL flights tuned in will hear you and your flight will prob ignore your requests because you are not talking to them directly (I presume this is the way the sim is set up). To talk to your flight directly and therefore issue orders you need to tune into the flight freq, which presumably is 251 in this case. -
Before or after the flight!

Well I've only done the first mission so far and I used normal (not easy) comms. I also changed the loadout to include 6 MAVs and a TGP. It all went according to plan once I figured out just what I needed to do. Oh, I did change the Net IDs to group 01 and own 01. JTAC target info appeared as per the documentation.
