[INVESTIGATING]PRELOADING BUGGED & FPS PROBLEMS
RealDCSpilot replied to Gryzor's topic in General Bugs
Another addition, if you choose to fly the Ka-50 (the oldest and simplest cockpit model) with DCS 2.5.6 in PG for instance, VRAM usage doesn't fill up over 100%. It's still quite high, but doesn't overshoot and performance is ok when flying over Dubai. Every aircraft with the latest and most detailed cockpit fidelity, especially the F-16, leads to VRAM overflow and tremendous performance hits. -
FFB is still working with G940 base in DCS 2.5.6.
-
Guys, check your VRAM usage, this might be the source of the performance issues. I hope ED can fix this quickly.

[INVESTIGATING]PRELOADING BUGGED & FPS PROBLEMS
RealDCSpilot replied to Gryzor's topic in General Bugs
@Gryzor Congrats! I think you found it! I just checked my VRAM usage and it is totally out of control. Even a 2080ti doesn't have the belly for it. So a VRAM memory leak is causing all the troubles... -
[INVESTIGATING]PRELOADING BUGGED & FPS PROBLEMS
RealDCSpilot replied to Gryzor's topic in General Bugs
Interesting find, might be worth looking into it for ED. -
@petsild Did some more tests, you were right. Water quality on high switches those SSLR reflections on. I tried medium and they were gone. Then i tried SSLR ON, but those reflections didn't come back. So now i wonder what does the new SSLR mean? What other reflection effects are rendered with this option? One the other side i found out that water quality on HIGH doesn't have an impact on performance, so SSLR on water does a pretty good job now. First i thought that this could be the culprit of the performance problems of 2.5.6 ... Back to square one.

Reflection in the water near shores causes annoying shimmering
RealDCSpilot replied to tapi's topic in General Bugs
I just found out how to do this. I thought this was controlled by the new SSLR option, but instead it's controlled by the water quality setting. Try medium and the reflections are gone. -
As a sidenote, i disabled the secondaries of the lensflare in the lensflare.fx shader (which should be a mandatory option for VR!). This doesn't affect the issue. Visually i can see no difference between SSLR on or off. Only that the SSLR effect of 2.5.6 looks much more detailed and clean than in 2.5.5. And well, there is the huge performance hit... @petsild this may lead in the right direction, so water quality on the highest setting forces SSLR always on? However, i can clearly see the difference in details from the former implementation of SSLR (2.5.5)...

Try setting Gamma to a value between 1.8 and 2.2. At 1.0 all lighting, especially with a VR HMD will be unrealistic darkened. DCS uses High-dynamic-range rendering for lighting which opens up the bandwidth for colors, contrasts etc. check https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/High-dynamic-range_rendering. There is a simple check for realism, fly at high noon and clear sky, if you can easily look directly into the sun and clearly see it's round shape your gamma is set too low. Think of what happens if you do this in reality, you will burn your retina. If the sun blinds you with a huge glow, you are close to a realistic value.

For me only the F-16 seems to have serious performance issues, other modules seem to work better.
-
Besides that... The new lighting looks absolutely incredible. So far i only have serious performance issues in the F-16, other modules seem to work better. I absolutely love the new dynamic cockpit lighting and how much nighttime lighting has improved!
-
...regardless of what i set in system settings. Those reflections (buildings, trees etc.) on water surfaces are always there.

just compare these maneuvers, especially the roll and hard turn with the gazelle in DCS, in reality it rolls around it's center of mass shortly below the main rotor. Makes sense, because the main rotor lifts all the weight and fights against gravity. In DCS the point of mass is centered and fixed in the middle of the whole 3D model, it rolls like a plane around the center of the hull between "invisible wings". For realistic simulation, the center of mass should also be dynamic not fixed, depending on payload, engine power and attitude. All the other helicopter modules manage that as a standard feature.
-
To be more precise, it flies more like a plane - that's the problem. The magnetic brake is not functional and it's SAS, FD and Autopilot are just a wild guess and workaround for spring based joysticks by Polychop. All the other helicopter modules adress this with special settings for trimming options. I pretty much like the Gazelle module, it's a beautiful machine, modelled and textured nicely, superb cockpit functionality... But how it flies and it's controls, a disgrace.
-
After 4 years waiting time - it better should be an "improvement" or let's hope for rebuilt from scratch and in the right way this time... Ignoring FFB functionality will be a big mistake, than both choppers are only something like "FC3 fidelity".
-
@Hunter_5E The major problems of the Gazelle are two: 1. the flight model allows you to fly upside-down and hold this attitude by simply pushing the collective down to the floor. this "negative thrust" creates enough uplift to maintain an upside-down flight, which is simply ridiculous... 2. the more severe problem is the control system. DCS has one of the absolut best features for truly dedicated helisimmers: FFB. This feature is present since the very beginning with DCS: Black Shark 1.0 and enables realistic trimming in every helicopter module except Polychop's Gazelle - because they just didn't know about it. They produced the gazelle module just with standard HOTAS controls and missed one of the most important, game changing features. If you are not that into helicopters, it's more likely to not know about realistic trimming, because you are used to simplified helicopter controls for spring centered joysticks like in ARMA 3 for instance. Over the years they tried to ignore it, promise a solution, get away with excuses and so on. But in the end it's not acceptable to sell a module which lacks high standard features like that. Now PC has a lot of attention and goodwill from the community, because they announced the Kiowa. But showing a nice 3D model isn't enough to convince me. They have to deliver this time, pretty much on the same standard like the other Heli modules and keep their promise to fix the Gazelle. It's not enough to let real helicopter pilots test their module with a spring based joystick, this way those guys can't verify the full capability of the sim and compare the fidelity against the other heli modules. No wonder those real pilots accepted the gazelle the way it is today.

The thread needs to be come back to life :) Just found this channel with very interesting information about tuning Windows and general game performance: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCzBPlB3pl9FvNfP1Uk4RKaw Might be worth a look.

[NO BUG]CCIP with CBU 97s and mk 82s (so far) does not work
RealDCSpilot replied to bcl816's topic in DCS: F-16C Viper
CCRP becomes a fallback mode if CCIP criteria aren't met. This small horizontal bar is working as a release cue for CCIP. Before the drop watch it wandering vertically until it passes the targeting pipper, this is the right moment. -
You can do it already, but only manually. Switch to A-A mode, make it SOI and try your best to catch an aircraft. Hard to do on fastmovers, but the big fat ones are easy to log on.

Which direciton? VR or TrackIR+HOTAS for A10C?
RealDCSpilot replied to wagdog's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
I just dropped a pair of CBU-97's over a convoy with my A-10C in VR and bailed out over the impact zone. While slowly gliding down it was a quite impressing view of the mess i created. After landing on the ground a walked the battlefield on foot and watched how the other guys on the server finished the job. Priceless experience in VR! And the sound was also amazing. -
If that means a complete overhaul of controls (best: start from scratch) to get rid of this horrible unrealistic fly-by-wire abomination, i would be very happy. After years.
