  1. It has nothing to do with CAW GG, I don't know why you'd assume that; I'm asking for my own sake.
  2. So spacing the launchers 20 - 30 km away from the STR is realistic in some circumstances?
  3. That would be a great feature to have if it could be implemented somewhat realistically. IMHO ARMs are too much of a magic bullet in LOMAC.
  4. A question I've always had about Patriot and Grumble class SAMs is just how large and area are these fire units deployed? Is the entire fire unit deployed in a small area in near proximity with each other like it is by default in LOMAC, or are the launching stations deployed over a much wider area spaced away from the STR radar to increase the effective engagement area? I never know in LOMAC if it is more realistic to leave the launchers in close proximity with the STR or space them in an arc extending several kilometres away from it--which makes more sense to me. Can you shed some light on this ssgatbliss? http://www.fas.org/spp/starwars/program/55938.pdf
  5. Everyone can be king in their own sandbox, especially when you restrict who can play in it with you. This thread is silly, and was doomed from the get go. S!
  6. I'm always up for friendly a challenge. I hope the rest our Aces are too. In a well fought match the best single pilot is inconsequential, it is the better team that wins.
  7. Having a working ATC would be cool too, but I doubt it will happen. I believe the data link for NATO aircraft is something that has been instituted fairly recently. It would be still nice to have though, seeing as there are various other modern developments in the game that don't quite fit the era but are there for the sake of equalization of game play (e.g. R-77 Adder). The NATO AWACS logic is a pain in the ass too, I often find myself having to wait seemingly forever for it to report 3 or 4 completely irrelevant 70 mile pop-ups in order to get a vector to a threat under 20. The Russian data link in the game gives instant and precise data on enemy contacts at all times. And about that instant and precise data... here's a couple summarized quotes about the EW radar systems from the SSI Flanker user manual: "The 1R13 EWR station ... a typical detection range for a fighter flying at high 10 kilometres equals 230 kilometres. The information is refreshed every 10 seconds. "The 55Zh6 EWR station ... the typical detection range for a fighter at an altitude of 10 kilometres is about 300 kilometres. The system measures target coordinates with an accuracy of 500 meters in range. It provides refreshed data every 10 seconds." That isn't the way they work in LOMAC... their data is updated and corrected real-time, they see through hills and track aircraft on the ground, elevation and terrain curvature limits are not instituted, and their range is well beyond 300 kilometres for a fighter at any altitude.
  8. Starting from the parking area winkey-home should start up both engines. Your throttles do have to be at idle, that seems to be most people's problem when respawning. Check to see if the windowskey is assigned as some sort of hotkey for your joystick or trackIR software. It is possible it there could be a conflict in there somewhere.
  9. The Mi-8 looks like it's wearing a big smile. :D http://www.foxbat.ru/maks/belarus/index.php?picid=belarus004 Heh... maybe not.
  10. If you put two SAM units in the same group of ground objects, only one will engage the enemy at a time. This will in effect decrease the amount of downtime due to depleted SAMs.
  11. These vehicles seem to re-arm themselves after a set time interval. I know I've literally watched SAMs reappear on a SA-6 Kub site.
  12. It seems like in 1.1 if you die before your target it destroyed, you get 0 points.
  13. It has nothing to do with a story heard by anyone, it has to do with experience and personal preference. If you have been reading and keeping up with the threads on missile performance in these forums you would know that your belief on what represents TRUE LIFE missile performance is incomplete. We've stated our reasons for using the settings that we do. You can't please everyone all the time. I hope you can find a server in HL that pleases you.
  14. You haven't been flying 1.1 much have you? It is pretty well the complete opposite of what you describe. ARH missiles are overly simplistic to evade, SARH missiles are not. Until the ARH missile logic is fixed by ED (see the many threads on the subject in these forums) the missile effectiveness will remain at 100% on our servers to compensate for the ARH missiles' lack of intelligence. Even at 100% effectiveness, one barely even has to try to spoof an ARH missile beyond 9 miles with the current missile logic. If you don't take drastic action against a SARH missile at that range, you're dead. The mid-range setting may be what ED intended to represent true real life effectiveness in some aspects of missile performance, but their current modeling fails to meet true realism in others that make using that setting deficient for any serious virtual pilot. At any rate, at the level we play, anything less than 100% on the missile slider is just too easy.
  15. I know there is probably no chance of this getting changed in the patch, but the omnipotent vision of these objects really bothers me. They don't actually detect anything, they just automatically know the position of every aircraft object in the game, even parked ones. The AWACS and EW radar sites really should have line of sight limitations, and they shouldn't be able to see stationary aircraft on the ground.
  16. The version of StarForce that comes with the download requires you to activate the product with a key code after you install it. The version of StarForce that comes with the CD requries that you have the CD in the drive while you play, but it does not require you to activate the product with a key.
  17. I imagine that is the problem. I've done it once or twice when I'm in a rush and not paying attention. You can even change the mission time when you're hosting just before you launch the game, you just have to make sure to hit OK afterwards. :D
  18. There were an enormous amount of replies to the double of this thread you posted in the general forum. Didn't you see them?
  19. You simply host in spectator mode. Unfortunately there isn't any special dedicated software out there for LOMAC, if that's what you're asking. Maybe ED will be kind enough to develop that for us one day. Ours is a dedicated server in the sense that it is a co-located computer whose only purpose is to host LOMAC missions.
  20. The missions will be changed regularly, as it was with our old dedicated server. Expect to see A/A fighter sweep missions, and full out mini-battle scenarios with both A/A and A/G aircraft flying.
  21. Ditto. There have always been a number of 1.1 servers available, just never enough 1.1 pilots around to fill more than one or two of them. Many people have been asking in HL where to get FC for weeks now, now we can finally give them an answer.
  22. I only remember encountering two myself, both in the same general area (along a ridge line). It's natural for air defences to deploy themselves around expected enemy avenues of approach, not just around potential target areas... especially highly mobile MANPADs. Stay alert around your approach avenue, Iglas are very easy to avoid if you see them. MANPADs and most other short range air defence units are easily avoided by flying above their threat envelope. Alternatively you can map you own flight route. You don't have to fly waypoint to waypoint you know. Use the map in the briefing and the bearing/distance tool to plot your own course. Look for good terrain features to facilitate your approach to target. That's what I do.
  23. What difference would this make on the client? I thought the timeout kicks were server regulated. Do clients kick themselves too?
