Anyone Using 3600x1920 3x1 Portrait?
walker450 replied to walker450's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I made some heavy modifications to one of my monitors and come up with this: I'm going to use this with my new i7/7970 rig for a while and may buy three new monitors later on.... Details on my mod here: http://www.overclock.net/t/1328990/removed-bezel-on-my-acer-s231h-monitor/20 -
I have recieved all new parts except the video card... Here is what I will end up with: ASRock Z77 Extreme4 Motherboard Intel Core i7-3770K Ivy Bridge 3.5GHz (3.9GHz Turbo) G.SKILL Ripjaws 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR3 1866 1x: Sapphire Radeon HD 7970 OC 3GB 384-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 3x Eyefinity: Acer S231H 23" 1920x1080 TN Monitor 120GB Kingston HyperX SSD Corsair 650W Power Supply Corsair 500R Mid Case CPU will be cooled with a custom water chiller and OC'd for good measure :) I modified the center monitor for my portrait setup. DCS P-51D 3 Monitor Portrait 3240x1920
walker450 replied to walker450's topic in Screenshots and Videos
Yes I have tried landscape... but I prefer portrait. I like being able to see more of the cockpit/instruments. 1080 vertical res just isn't quite enough :) (and yes, I have TIR) This is a boring video... but I was excited at the time that my center monitor was actually working after I had taken it apart!! Here is the thread on my monitor project: http://www.overclock.net/t/1328990/removed-bezel-on-my-acer-s231h-monitor -
The right monitor looks brighter in the video, but is hardly noticeable in person... I still have to adjust all monitors.

Welcome!!!

I'm not a fan of ACE Combat... but I do love your sig pic!!! That's awesome! I am curious how good that game would look on my new rig I'm building, at 3600x1920 :)

How To Properly Disconnect From Tanker??
walker450 replied to walker450's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
Thanks guys. I will try throttling back only... and having more patience to see what it does. I will also try disengaging the autopilot, but I'm pretty sure I have tried it without success. Maybe I need to update my FC2... I'm bad about ignoring the patches lol. Totally my fault! When I get back home I'll see what version I am running. I am waiting for FC3 final to be released before I download. However, I wanted to practice in FC2 in preparation for 3. -

I got this working with my 3 non-IPS 23" Acer S231H monitors... I removed the bezel on the middle one. Note how the right side of the screens is much darker... This is because of the poor viewing angles of TN panels. Here is a quick video I made: -
When refueling in Lock On (I am using FC2 specifically), and the tanks become fuel, how do I properly disconnect? I want to gracefully breakaway.... I'm flying the SU-33.... and it seems to just stay there on autopilot trying to refuel after it is already full. I have to push the nose down real hard and it will finally go down... I did not see a description in the FC2 manual.

You should leave it on single monitor if you are using Nvidia Surround. Windows will see it as one big screen. Set DCS to 5760x1080 res single screen and frame-rates should pick up. PS: Run the game in full screen mode. The box needs to be checked by full screen.

I pulled the trigger and ordered the Z77 board and some RAM... will wait for some black friday/cyber monday sales and see how cheap I can get the rest....

Learning about mulit monitor
walker450 replied to JG14_Smil's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Looking good! A few questions: When you hook them up PLP: Does the computer have to render a huge 4080x1920 display.... where the middle 1920x840 area "under" the middle screen isn't displayed??? What motherboard do you have? I hope my new Z77/i7 will work to run another monitor for guages like you did.... As far as adapters go... if you have good monitors they already have a displayport plugin... no adapter needed... however, they don't come with the damn cables... so you still have to buy them. Monoprice has reasonable prices. -
Regarding the last video.... Noob question: Was that a CBU or the Cannon????

I think I'll stick with a regular 7970 :) I plan on watching the Black Friday/Cyber Monday deals. Here are the mdp/dp cables I would buy from monoprice: http://www.monoprice.com/products/subdepartment.asp?c_id=102&cp_id=10246&cs_id=1024606 -

Thanks again! Do you see any advantage for me to get the AMD 7970 Matrix Platinum --over-- the Gigabyte 7970 3GB that I am looking at?? (NEW EGG -- GIGABYTE GV-R797OC-3GD Radeon HD 7970 3GB The price difference isn't all that bad 8) -

Hate to hear you are having such problems! Hope you get it worked out! What are your system specs? I am thinking about building a new rig. Description here: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?p=1608625#post1608625 -

Dell UltraSharp U2412M 24" LED LCD Monitor - 16:10 - 8 ms -
I do the same with my case... run the intake fans faster than exhaust :) I have tried every possible combination and cannot get my monitors to work well in portrait. I took this video here: but had to really manipulate the monitors and camera to make it appear decent... when using them they don't look as good... :(

10-4. The Gigabyte 7970 I'm looking at has two mini display ports, one HDMI, and one DVI. I am planning on getting two of these: Mini DisplayPort to DisplayPort Adapter Cable and running the third monitor on DVI or HDMI That should work... right? Also... any comments on using IPS vs TN panels for portrait?
