I was guessing something like 100gigs, but over 200? Thats one huge map. We really need some improvements to the updater, so it's capable just adding the new parts of the map and not re-downloading the whole thing each time new stuff is added. I cant imagine downloading over 200 gigs everytime they add 10 airfileds

Barthek's CAUCASUS REDONE 2022
ouky1991 replied to Barthek's topic in Texture/Map Mods for DCS World
I tried to make something similar to the early tests Barthek posted some time ago and edited some of his textures. Not as good but I kinda like it- 1018 replies

I wonder how many people see it this way. I on the other hand think mission editor is practically the best thing about DCS, I can't imagine having to count on other people for content. ME gives you infinite amount of possibilities and it's not that complicated to learn. This new feature seems like a good start, but I agree with others that at this point it has very limited use. Hopefully we'll get more options soon, like including the whole aircraft state and advanced waypoint support, then it would be a complete game changer. Either way, work on core is very much appreciated!

We can only guess at this point. Normandy, which is done by same team and the same tech is 43GB. This seems something over twice in the size, but since it's not sat textures it can't be easily deduced. I'd say no more than 100GB, either way it'll be smaller than comparable sat texture maps.

A different level, but because it's completely different environment that needs a different approach. Its makes sense to use texture tiles in part of the world that's almost entirely fields with some town/cities in between. Kola, SA and Afghanistan have a lots of mountains and uninhabited places, it would look more like Caucasus with repetitive texture tiles if those maps would be done the same way as Fulda Gap. Or they would have to be something like 1TB each to match the same texture quality as tiles. I'm convinced they chose the best possible way to do those maps. That being said, it certainly must take far more time to make this type of heavily populated map compared to sat textures with a few tiles here and there. It seems they've done brilliant job, can't wait so see this.

I'm almost always doing cold starts in my own missions, so it's very useful addition, no need to restart the whole thing. If it'll be simple trigger activated action and upon being killed, the game will just let you reload from checkpoint, that will be pretty great. I don't own any campaigns, but understand they are updated regularly. It's likely they'll have this feature implemented soon.

Syria might look good down low, but I up high it's one of the worst IMO. It's good we have these other maps as options, Afghanistan looks absolutely stunning at altitude and pretty great at those handcrafted areas when flying low. I'm not trying to <profanity> on Syria BTW, Ugra has added a lot of content for free, but I wish they would revise the color palette, it's so cartoonish looking, it hurts my eyes. The size is just a price we must pay for realistic textures without repetitive tiling

Not sure that's correct, my map install shows 132gb, just like for people that own both west and east. Purchasing the east shouldn't trigger any other data to download
-
Thanks for the info, this confirms what I was thinking. I only got west part, because I thought it will be smaller install , guess I'll buy the rest now
-
Did you get the east part or do you own the whole map? If so, Is your install 132gb?
-
Unrelated guestion. If I own only west, after purchasing east, do I have to download more data or the east part will only unlock for me?
-
Cinsiderring latest Afghanistan update, In case I own only west part and deicide to purchase new east part, does it start downloading the textures or are they already downloaded for everyone and purchase just unlocks them?

It would be cool to have dynamic weather in the similar way to the fog, where you could set up heavy clouds to mask lover quality textures, and then trigger activated different weather preset that could slowly morph into lighter clouds.

no bug found LOBL mode possibly not working correctly
ouky1991 replied to ouky1991's topic in Bugs and Problems
Thanks for checking. My assumption is not based on any real life data, it's more anecdotal. Playing the same missions I played a month ago, I would have almost 100% success hitting flying helo (Mi-24 set to "no reaction to threat") As soon as LOBL symbology appeared, I would launch and see the missile hit the target from above. Now, it just flies from the side and misses more often - which is what would before the last update happen if launched while LOAL symbology was shown. -
I'm not sure what changed but before the last patch, trajectory of LOBL was visibly different, and lima would hit helos from top. Now it flies like LOAL, aproaching from a side and often missing target
-
Locking moving helicopter with Lima Hellfire works as usual but after the symbology changes from LOAL to LOBL constraints, the trajectory of the missile seems to be the same as LOAL lima_test.trk

Nice work on the fixes, thanks!

Apache AH-64D Flight Model and further Development Status in 2024?
ouky1991 replied to Terrifier's topic in DCS: AH-64D
I don't think it's gonna take that long, but yea, it's not that fun to fly with the current model. It's got to be one of the hardest parts of every module to tune this. Change one value and it breaks some other thing kinda deal. Hopefully they'll fix this soon, the Apache is almost perfect otherwise. -
Thats strange, I assumed it had somenthing to do with upscaling, both in game via DLSS or in the control panel with NIS, since setting MSAA initially solved it. Maybe I just got lucky but I haven't seen any flickering since.
