  1. Welcome to LockOn Community Exercise Red Flag 2008. This thread is an information thread only, just as last years threads. It ill be designed to disseminate information to the community about this mission LOCERF 08-2. PLEASE DO NOT POST IN THE GENERAL INFORMATION THREAD UNLESS YOU ARE A MODERATOR. Please post your questions etc over on the 159th forums found here: http://www.the159th.com/forum It will continue to be the official spot for all planning etc. LOCERF 08-2 DATES: The next mission will commence at 2100 zulu on 19 April 2008. If you are interested in participating in the next RedFlag please PM me no later than 2 April 2008 at 2300 zulu. You must include in your post: Number of Slots Requested The type of aircraft you request (for example 104th requests 4 Su-25t's and 4 Su-33's) If you do not PM me with this information then you will not be considered for the next mission. All Lonewolf Pilots: Please PM with the same information. You will be required to pass a checkride in order to participate in the mission. (This is true for lonewolf pilots who have not participated in previous events.) The number of pilots that will participate in this mission will depend on what server we use and how many people apply IF YOU REQUEST A SLOT IN REDFLAG YOU MUST BE ABLE TO FILL IT!!!!!! In the past we have had teams who decided to leave or pull out of the mission at the last moment. Please be considerate of your team mates and realize that you are hurting your entire team by not showing up. This also includes briefings etc, make sure you represent your squad and yourself well and attend scheduled briefings and the mission. S!
  2. It has been a good long while since I used a fighter in LOMAC. But I sure don't miss missiles like that.
  3. The same thing occasionally happens to me and others that fly on TuAF 2. Usually, it is a very quick crash to desktop.
  4. Yes, and you can open it in notepad. I use a free program called notepad++ for these types of edits. It makes things a little easier at times. I wish I could give you better instructions but when I adjusted mine it was pretty much trial and error. Search the forums and you may find better instructions for editing that file.
  5. TrackIR doesn't make any difference. That thread tells you where to adjust you default cockpit view.

  7. If you use Hyperlobby, you won't need to know your IP. If a friend joins you in an Open or Closed Mission and you start your server, he will automatically connect to you. OR, you have the option in HL to send him a pager message with your IP (even if you don't know it, HL does) so he can join you directly.
  8. Rage, ask your buddy to try it again but without chaff. Chances are he will gently sway until a missile hits his teeth.
  9. Options/Difficulty Top box Permit Crash RCVR and MiniHUD
  10. Just get HL and Teamspeak. That will let you speak to others while online and anything else you need will be much easier to tell you. (provided you have a microphone) For your first HL experience, I suggest joining the TuAF II A2G server.
  11. Again, why is the Avenger worth more? It is basically a plainly visible Stinger with one .50 cal. MG. It should not be worth more than a Strela.
  12. If a radar is on your exact 12, it doesn't appear to be on your exact 12 on the RWR. I'm referring to level flight. Changes in attitude can make spikes appear to be in very odd directions.
  13. Ultimately, what difference does it make? A. Flying with jam on, RWR suddenly lights up, warns a lock and then a launch. B. Flying with jam off, RWR suddenly lights up pointing out the SAM bearing*, then in a bit, warns a lock, then in a bit warns a launch. Scenerio B gives much more time to attempt to find and destroy the SAM. Scenerio A lets you know of the presence of a SAM by a missile homing on you. I can't swear how ED modeled things to achieve what is seen on the RWR. I can say that in some circumstances the RWR display seems very unrealistic in that on the outside edge of the pre-lock paint envelope, turning on ECM will remove the SAM from the RWR altogether. Whether the SAM radar is jammed or not shouldn't change whether the RWR detects an emitter. * Or close to it because the angle is off a bit on the A-10 RWR
  14. For SAMS it sure does. By turning it on immediately/constantly, you will see very little difference between a SAM's paint range, lock range and launch range. Meaning, you will have shortened warning time of its position before it launches. Try waiting until it launches before turning it on. (and go defensive) Different SAMs and situations call for different tactics so experiment with music-on and music-off at different times to see how it can help a Hog jockey. Knowing the SAM's location is a big determining factor on whether you want it on or off on approach.

  16. Yes it could get very complicated. Regarding your example, personally, I don't find the Tfrog difficult to fly, only more tricky than the hog. To an experienced pilot, flying either is second nature. The thing that can't be ignored as an advantage for the hog is the cannon. Conversely, the Tfrog has a much more diverse and sometimes more powerful choice of underwing ordnance. Perhaps a different stats page for each plane is the only way to be really fair. Comparing hogs to frogs is like apples and oranges.
  17. I am referring to air to ground but the same problem exists with air to air stats. However, a fair ranking system for air to air might be different. By the way, there still needs to be some sort of other factor to give weight to pilots that destroy more difficult units. But killing a BUK radar with a Kh-58 is not the same as killing it with cannons. It can become very complicated but to be truly fair, these things should be addressed.
  18. I've been giving some thought to how stat rankings are generated and how to more accurately decide who the best pilots are. Stat rankings commonly share the problem of giving credit for simply flying more often rather than being based on who actually performs better. Although I still haven't worked it out completely I have come up with something to help eliminate this problem: Take the number of total kills and divide it by the total minutes flown. This would give a sort of "efficiency factor". This could be put into the ranking calculations to help level the playing field. Certianly a pilot that gets 100 kills in 5 hours is doing better than a pilot that gets 200 kills in 20 hours.
  19. I've seen two different systems with onboard video attempt LockOn. One worked and one didn't.
