KS-19 guided by the Son-9 will not engage aircraft flying at 5000ft beyond 5.5nm from their position. For aircraft flying at 10000ft the range falls just below 5nm. At 20000ft the KS-19s don't engage whatever the range. This is well below what is indicated by the threat ring on the F10 map (10nm). I think this is because the 10-13nm horizontal range that we can find online is for indirect fire i.e. when used as artillery. Having this range displayed on the map is a bit misleading in my opinion. The slant ranges for the mesurements I have taken are around 30000ft for an aircraft at 5000ft, 5.5nm away and 31000ft for an aircraft at 10000ft just below 5nm away. These values seem coherent with performance data found online although on the lower side. The biggest issue is the system not engaging anything at or above 20000ft. Given it is designed to engage high altitude bombers and is documented to be able to reach targets above 40000ft. It's interesting to note that the cannons will "wake" as soon as an enmy enters the threat ring but will then just move their gun around until the targets reach the mentioned ranges. It was worth a try One never knows ... you might suprise us someday
-
Il was expecting someone to say this Anyway I found a mod to replace the 9X with IRIS-T, guess that'll have to suffice
-
With Heatblur working on the Eurofighter and planning on delivering it with IRIS-T missiles, I was wondering if once they're in game they could be made available to the F-16 (and potentialy the F-18 aswell) to allow us to fly European style. Now ... I am no fool and well aware of how things work here and expect this thread to be flagged as "not planned or incorrect for this version" the minute someone from ED lays their eyes on it but I'll argue anyway.

Well we are, and focus was on protecting our borders in case of an open conflict, but when you look at the equipment and tactics used by the swiss military from this period, we were clearly preparing to fight a soviet invasion more than any other scenario

Since everyone is asking for their favorite base I might aswel join in ! (jokingly, I know it won't happen and it's outside the scope of the map anyway) Dear Ugra, please expand the map to the south to cover airfields in Switzerland like LSMA, LSPM, LSMU, LSMD, LSME, LSFR, LSMI, LSMM, LSMF, LSPU, LSMP, LSMN, LSMH, LSMJ, LSMC to name only a few. These bases were home to Hunter and Tiger squadrons and I think they would add great value to the map On a more serious note, huge thank you for the work you have put in the map and all the great communication and video you shared over the last few weeks. I am eager to try this map and see it evolve with the different phases. Great job Ugra ! null

You just gotta love the DCS community... Have a dev show little of their work as to not over hype everyone, people will complain that the project is dead and that they should share more news Have a dev post daily screenshot and videos updated of their work, people will complain that they should release it or show less and work more ... Respect to the devs for having to deal with this while creating a module/map from scratch

Soon enough the manual will have had a longer writing and proof reading time than the module's development time... This is getting seriously frustrating, just make what you have available to the community please, it can only be an improvement on what we have now and frankly no one is expecting it to be perfect anyway. Most of us would already be happy to have the Russian version and translate it ourselves.

Indeed but that is what they now have easy access to. Well actually it is not. I dont believe wags said they wanted to add those features to the current F-5E. Rather this would be a separate variant from my understanding (à la Aerges with their different variants of the Mirage F1). I wouldn't mind having a modernised brazilian F-5 I was expecting this argument to pop up a some point. I believe this is not relevant to this topic. I would wait and see what the F-35 product ends up looking like before waiving it around as an argument that they now can do anything in the sim. If it ends up being absolutely ridiculous then this argument does not stand. If it ends up working fine, then we can start lighting torches and asking ED "what about this and that". In the meantine it doesn't mean anything really. It's still there. It is a Livery argument. It appears on swiss and austrian skins and is removed on aggressors skins. Same goes for some antennas under the nose. This was mentionned in the last change log. Yeah we hear you loud and clear. And ED has replied by saying they're doing the Swiss spec variant (for now) they never said anything about a factory version. Could they have done it ? Maybe but they have easy access to the swiss ones so that's what they based their module on... It's the same story for every module in DCS

And I never implied that. The F-5 is/was one of those aircrafts that got a lot of variants and was sold to a lot of air forces. Each of those air force then adapted the aircraft for their individual needs, tried some stuff, and in the end Northrop had to validate some of it. Now I am no developer and I do not work at ED but the way they seem to go about it is that now that they have their headquarters in Switzerland, it's easy for them to go to our museums and take inspiration from our swiss F-5 (swiss military aviation museums are amazing, the jets there are looked after by qualified passionate personnel and the feel like they would be ready to start up any minute). I'm guessing that's where the argument of "were doing a swiss F-5" comes from. If they had to implement each subsystem that was ever put in an E-3 the jet would end up being a mess (also the more system/capabilities in a module the more prone to bugs it is) and people would be quick to request features from other variants than the E-3 (hell they already are ...) the line has to be drawn somewhere.

We indeed tested those loadouts but they were never adopted with the fleet operationaly. I am almost certain you will not find an other picture of a swiss Tiger with 4 Siwa. The one you shared is the only one i'm aware where you see this loadout and I believe it date back from the early trials. (But hey, never say never. The internet always prooves you wrong) Nonetheless, claiming we should have 4 siwa on the tiger because the swiss did it would be missleading.

fixed BR-250 and BR-500 oriented 90° off on pylons
Chess96 replied to gulredrel's topic in Bugs and Problems
Does this mean it will be corrected in a hotfix sometime soon or we will have to wait for the next big DCS update ? -
I do not use EDM, but I have managed to fix my problem with a quite extreme solution. I went across the whole install of DCS and deleted anything I saw that was linked to the mirage F1. And then ran a repair. This finally did it. I don't know what file was corrupt in the end but it was one of those. Thanks for you patience and help @grim_reaper68!
