TouchPal - Touchscreen Cockpit
digital_steve replied to Gadroc's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
... greek to me mate ;) Is it an easy thing to do? I've just got the iMo Mini Monster: http://www.mimomonitors.com/products/imo-monster-touch-10-inch-mini-usb-touchscreen-monitor and was hoping to give this profile a run... although i have another 7" touchscreen and a 7" USB display so i could have the ABRIS on one and the Shkval on the other and the touchpal program on the big boy. I dunno, a bit at a lost as to where to go from here Gadroc. I'm not asking you to recreate anything, so don't get that idea from my post... but i guess an indication of what i could do to get this to function with my setup would be greatly appreciated. -
Going from a TM Cougar to Logitch G940

Why would i bother with examples when it's pretty clear from this last post that you've already made your mind up about getting the G940? The questions you've asked have all been pretty much answered before mate... no one here is going to validate a purchase for you. For what it's worth, i'd keep the Cougar. I like my Cougar; it's robust, solid and hasn't given me a problem. It works with the sims you're playing and you also have pedals... the only thing i can see is that you're just changing one system for another and the added benefit (if it's a benefit for you really) of force feedback. Waste of time and money in my opinion, especially when you have a perfectly decent setup that works. I'm getting the U2nxt and hall sensor (plus the other lot) upgrades for my Cougar setup shortly and after that, i can't see it wearing out for a long long time. So i'd recommend that instead of the G940 as you'll have 2 lumps of solid metal that will last as long as you want to use flight sims. -

Any chance this will work on a 10.1" touch screen running @ 1024 x 600 (without shkval)? -

... wow Can i have your pedals then? -
Yeah... i reckon they're making no money at all. Businesses do that; they're all kind and fluffy. Given you need decent pedals and a hotas to get the most out of BS, thank the lord it's only $40.

Non push button interfacing

I have a goflight switch panel that is used to send keystrokes for cockpit switches I set them preflight to wherever they need to be for where i'll start the flight (on the ground, in the air etc). I guess it's no different from a real pilot pre flight checklist and setting everything as needed. The software can't do everything for you. -

Marks my words... DCS: F-111 in 2012 -
be aware that you lose the training stuff when you update to 1.02

How much realism do we need? If people want a massive dose of reality, they should join their defence force and get posted.

I used the touchscreen with one of the falcon 4 af touchbuddy profiles... it worked fine, apart from the fact that it cut off some of the panel graphics and switches in the various tabs, which pretty much made it useless actually. No matter what i edited, i couldn't get the graphics to fit in the touchbuddy screen properly. Bit of a waste of money on my part to be honest.

My PC? Oh... thanks. Yeah it's ok but i don't use it as much as i should. Only the one monitor sadly, maybe more when i have some cash back in the bank. Yeah, if it's prolonged crap then it gets old, but it is to be expected somewhat on the internet. Single player is the go.

Play single player with your kid and leave the multiplayer alone until he has his first $2 prostitute?

To be fair, i think the Arma series is an infantry simulator first... so the flight stuff should really be expected to be on par with something like DCS: Black Shark... a la study sim. FWIW i found the helicopters dead easy to fly in Arma2 with just a Cougar Stick (no throttle attached) and just assigning the needed functions to buttons and hats on the stick. Worked fine for me.

Agreed Grimes The Helicopters are fun, the VTOL things are complete arse
