rotary wheel assignment on TM warthog
DocSigma replied to KKR75's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I haven't mapped any additional buttons to the Warthog.. i stick with the default mappings thus far. I do like the idea of using the rotary for zoom in/out though. Are you guys using target to do this or just mapping the rotary directly in game? -
Are the Cougar MFD's worth it?
DocSigma replied to DocSigma's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
There was an article at tomshardware.com reviewing current softeare that was claiming to be able to run different cards from different brands In crossfire and/or SLI. The results were far from acceptable. Every benchmark seemed to bottleneck at the lesser cards ability with no gain in performance. -
How to controll the aircraft when the rudder surface if blow off?
DocSigma replied to Kevlon's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
You really don't need rudder to fly... mostly for taxing, taking off, cross wind landings..etc.. but for general flight you should be fine to fly. I think i read that the aircraft is designed to have independent actuator rods for each control surface so in the event you get a control surface shot off the other one should be functional due to the MFRCS (manual flight reversion control system) and you'll be able to fly the plane without any computer assisted attitude, pitch, or yaw enhancements. Just stick and rudder and the physical cables that move them. -
I think i fixed it. I guess i just needed to mess around with the calibration from within the cougar control panel. For some reason when I had my calibration data set to auto at load up i was getting this unequal axis response, but what I did was to set my calibration to manual and apply manual calibration data i had stored and set my it to manual calibration at startup and now my pedals are extremely responsive throughout the entire Z axis left and right of center. Thanks so much for you help guys.. really appreciate it.

I can't convey just how far above the WH is to other HOTAS. I'm a Cougar owner, and still am. ( I love the Cougar and it's feel), but the WH is in a league all by itself. It's solid and you feels real from the tension to the resistance and feel of the switches, HATS, and buttons to it's sheer weight. I never think of it as a game peripheral or a toy, but as a real world piece of hardware co-opted for my home PC. All the other HOTAS i've had including the cougar still gave me that toy feeling, the WH definitely does not. Also, don't forget the HSensors thoughout which give it amazing precision. The moment after I purchased it, I thought to myself how i couldn't beleive I just dropped such a fair amouint of money on a controller, but once I had it in my hands i thought to myself what a justified purchase if ever I've made one.

I've never calibrated them in Windows. The only calibration I've done is through the cougar control panel's calibration since they are gameported through the cougar base. I can try to recalibrate in windows or erase the previous calibration data and recalibrate. I'm hoping it's a software issue and not a pot issue. Last time I cleaned a pot I borked it and had to wait for new ones.

I'm using the Elite RCS pedals through my cougar base along with the warthog. The pedals work but i'm not getting even performance from them. 1: They don't seem to be centered. 2: Yaw left is good but Yaw right isn't even ( 50% -|- 15%). I'm not sure what to do about remedying this. Are the pots or Pot shot or needs cleaning, or is there something software side that can be done? Any help would be great and very much appreciated. Thanks.

Are the Cougar MFD's worth it?
DocSigma replied to DocSigma's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I understand now. Running video output asynchronously, i.e two seperate video outputs sounds to me like a bottleneck which causes the fps hit. Running a single synchronous video output via one card or two sli or crossfire cards is un bottlenecked. Thanks for that clarification. -

I read that elsewhere that outputting additional monitors results in a severe fps hit. Off my single 5850 driving my 26inch monitor at 1920x1200 i get very good framerates with beta3. Do you think my single 5850 would be enough to just run two additional monitors on either side, say 17' monitors, so basically it'd be three across ( 17', 26' 17') running a setup similar to Loz's 3x22' monitors across as in his above post? -

Im not completely set on the two 8' mfds. Ir sounds like an additio al large format display may be the way to go and a little bit less costly. Looking forward to those pics though. -

I just bought a pair. I haven't picked up a second monitor yet or get two small 8' lcds but I'm jazzed about having physical osb's to depress. -

I'm sold. Using them with the two 8' mini lcd's outputting the two MFD's to each frame. Now I just have to find two 8' lcd's with VGA compatibility and a 800x600 resolution. -
I agree. At first it may seem like you're dumping a hefty chunk of change on a "controller", but that feeling is immediately diminished one you get your hands on the HOTAS, ecspecially the Warthog. I have never been fully satisfied with my cougar but have had it since it's release and still the original OOTB hardware save for a replacement pot ( I actually have Cubbies Hall sensor mod, but have yet to install it). I've gotten used to it and never have regretted my purchase of it. Now, with the Warthog, and the quality it brings to the table, I sometimes think I would have paid more.

Poll, did you like your stock TM Cougar? Yes or No
DocSigma replied to Sticky's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
The center play out of the box took me out of WWII siming. I was an ardent Il2 simmer until I got the Cougar. I would have been more accurate if I was flying and shooting with a blindfold on. If only If only there was such a thing as the Force! -

That is impressive. Let me get this straight. You have two small touchscreen LCD's with video output for both MFD's and the cougar MFDs aligned over them and a second large format monitor displaying those different panels? -
For those of you who are users of the Cougar MFD's, are they worth the purchase, and are they easily used with DCS A10C etc..? Thanks for the input.

Warthoggers: Updated firmware released
DocSigma replied to topdog's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Updated no problem. I never had a problem with the lights staying on though. After shut down of my system, I usually power off the PSU which will extinguish the lights. Now I do notice that now the lights don't come on until Windows loads whereas before just turning on the PSU in the back of the computer would light up the main green band at the front of the throttle and the the throttle switches and buttons would light up when windows booted up. -

I still like it but the center play issues become annoying and i was never able to afford the custom gimbals to eliminate it. I still use it but the center play is always a bother. -
I'm a little confused about configuration creation with TARGET. I have experience with Foxy for the Cougar where you have a Macro ( .tmm) file that is linked to a foxy created profile (.tmj) file.. you compile both files together and and load them and you are good to go.. the Hotas is configured for that configuration. In TARGET though i see the GUI configurations which are of a different extension (I think its .fxx) to those in the script editor which use (.tmm) and (.tmj). Am I right in saying that with the script editor you need a written script ( .tmj) and a corresponding undefined macro (.tmm) that the script defines? And, the GUI is something different where there is no separate macro but a combined button, switch, key, assignment in the GUI fields that you can call whatever you like because definition and assignment is all done in one combined user interface? Lastly, and I'm sorry for asking too many questions, but is it safe to say that the Script editor is more powerful a tool when it comes to writing a configuration? Thanks for any help and it is really appreciated.

JTAC target i/d and designation tutorial movie
DocSigma replied to Bahger's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
Just make sure you make the MFD that's displaying the TAD your SOI. Just slew the + over the red triangle (data) point and you will see that it automatically hooks to the TAD. Then go up short on your DMS and it will now be your current SPI. Now you have a vector to the target area. China HAT forward long to slew your TGP on that SPI and now your TGP is looking in that general area where the target is ( you should see it.. if not zoom or use your boat switch to change to White hot or Black hot. Once you have it the TGP on your target DMS switch up long will stabilize and lock it as your steer point indicator. Now if you are having the FAC laze your target you just need to hit the LSS OSB on the TGP and put it in search mode and your TGP will automatically search that area looking for the laser being painted on the target once you make the laser on call to the FAC. You don't need to go DMS up long to set is as your SPI.. just get in that area... LSS on... and Laser on call... and bingo the TGP will find it and get a perfect point laser track. -
Honestly, the beta doesn't even feel like a beta. I've seen more release versions of software with more bugs than the current beta. I'd rather see this masterpiece tested ad nausea um until it's right.

JTAC/JFAC to give tgt MARK points ( or an entire FP)?
DocSigma replied to DocSigma's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
I ask this for deep interdiction type missions so one doesn't spend a fair amount of time loitering around seas of air defenses marking targets, then getting separation on those targets then increasing back in at a reasonable standoff distance to release your bombs. I guess: 1: is there such a capability on the a10c ( the avionics are pretty impressive so I'm assuming it exists in the real thing)? 2: is it implemented or will it be implemented in the sim? Thanks again. -
I know you can with the TGT Pod set different mark points ( TMS short right) (A-Z) load those as a different flight plan and get different sequential targets to release mulitiple jdams in succession in one pass. Is there a way where the FAC can do this for you and instead of sending a single marked data point ( red triangle displayed on the TAD) send an entire flight plan with multiple mark points that can easily be loaded up with the CDU? Thanks.

Warthoggers: Updated firmware released
DocSigma replied to topdog's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Under HID devices they are showing that they are working properly but they are not listed as Joystick and Throttle. Only when I click the installed devices does it show that Hotas Warhog for both joystick and throttle. Im using win. 7 ultimate...is it still enumerated properly? In other words... it dosn't look exactly like the picture shown in the instructions. Also, Should I unplug both the joystick and throttle prior to installing the driver/firmware .exe? thanks.
