Also, should the oval access cover on the top of the right wingtip be there? The one on the left is to provide access to the remote compass, not sure if the top of the right wing should have one.

Not just you Blaze, I've noticed it too. First time I saw it the canopy was open and I thought "Wow, ED even has a propwash model for the flight suit"

NEW VERSION Version 1.1 out now, cleaned up some stuff. Get it here http://files.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/181208/ -
P-51D 9255 of No. 424 "City of Hamilton" Sqdn, RCAF Auxiliary. Version 1.0 This skin represents a North American P-51D-30-NA, RCAF serial number 9255, coded BA-U, of No. 424 "City of Hamilton" Squadron, RCAF (Aux), Mount Hope, Ontario, Canada, circa the early 1950s. Aircraft finished in overall aluminum lacquer with matte black anti-glare panel on upper nose. Standard RCAF nationality markings with red search markings on wingtips and horizontal stab. Awaiting approval from ED. Yes, the spinner nearly killed me ;)

SKIN: RCAF 402 Sqdn P-51D completed.

Ah, thanks for the heads up, this will make it easier. I'm not used to colour spec files yet, and the A-10C skins I did were all matte finish anyway so I didn't have to play around with them... :) -

Um, nope. You're obviously referring to 9274, which is currently registered in the US and flying in it's old RCAF livery. A nice restoration, and kudos to the owner/operator as the markings and colours are spot on. The aircraft I chose to represent is 9288, as it would have appeared in the early 1950s. There was actually an entire squadron of Winnipeg Mustangs, just as there was for Calgary, Vancouver, Hamilton, etc, all part of the early post war RCAF Auxiliary, part of Air Defense Command, and responsible for the defense of the home country, ie Canada's "National Guard" at the time. After WW2, the Auxiliary squadrons were referred to by the sponsoring city name in the tradition started by the RAF, instead of their 'other' name which was usually an indigenous Canadian animal, ie Winnipeg "Bears", Calgary "Wolves" (note the Wolf logo nose art on the 403 Calgary Mustang I posted). Meanwhile, squadrons in the regular RCAF (like the Sabre squadrons serving NATO overseas at the same time) used the more familiar (and more aggressive) names like 410 "Cougar", or 416 "Lynx", etc. Here's some other "Winnies" from the same era: 9288 9273 A whole bunch of them, 9563 is nearest to the camera, coded AC-U, in the earlier paint scheme, and before the RCAF changed the marking style to using the last three digits of the serial instead of a single letter for individual aircraft ID, squadron ID remained as a two letter code, 402 used "AC". These codes were later randomized instead of being assigned in alphabetical order according to squadron number, ie. 400 - AA, 401 - AB, 402 - AC, etc. Lastly, here's 274 then: and now: -
P-51D 9590 of No. 403 "City of Calgary" Sqdn, RCAF Auxiliary. Version 1.0 This skin represents a North American P-51D-30-NA, RCAF serial number 9590, of No. 403 "City of Calgary" Squadron, RCAF (Aux), Calgary, Alberta, Canada, circa the early 1950s. Aircraft finished in overall aluminum lacquer with matte black anti-glare panel on upper nose. NOTE: Original aircraft had an uncuffed Hamilton Standard Prop with bare metal blade fronts. I have tried to replicate this look with the cuffed prop of DCS P-51D. Available for download here: http://files.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/181163/

Hi everyone, I found a couple errors in the README, to avoid confusion I've resubmitted this skin. I'll update the thread once it's available again. Thanks! -
Available for DL here: http://files.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/181032/ Mustang 9288 of No. 402 "City of Winnipeg" Sqdn, RCAF Auxiliary, based at Stevenson Field, Winnipeg, Canada, circa early 1950s. Aircraft finished in overall aluminum lacquer with matte black anti-glare panel, and standard RCAF nationality markings and ID codes for the era. RCAF style stenciling.

Ok, first one is just about ready, thanks to DCS for the template. Mustang 9288 of No. 402 "City of Winnipeg" Squadron, RCAF (Auxiliary), early 1950s. Still adjusting the weathering layers and there's a couple of details I want to tweak before I post it. Tomorrow I start work on the Spec files and then she'll be done.

P-51 Orange wheels and Nav light Fix

Thanks, works great, only one thing I noticed, the little fences ahead of the ailerons are now missing: -
Ok, made some headway in the Specular World ;) I've never worked with colour spec layers before, just greyscale ala MS FS9, etc. After some experimentation I think I've hit a good balance between Liquid Chrome and Matt Camo... Note reflectivity of front half of the airplane (rear and wings using a dull camo spec): Compare to the original shiny metal spec below: This will become easier once the template is released and I can make custom spec files using all the individual markings and weathering layers for each skin I make.
-
Hi fellas, I plan to do a lot of RCAF Mustang skins, including some of the lesser known but just as colourful of the Auxilliary squadron schemes. I could put them out for DL as they are finished but I'd prefer to wait for the official template release so I can adjust the weathering layers as required. Working on custom Spec layers now. Some aircraft were bare metal, others were covered with aluminum laquer. Also planning to do some WW2 RCAF skins, namely 441 and 442 Squadrons, but the post war period (pre-jets) is a somewhat neglected period of RCAF history so I'm having fun with the Auxilliary paint schemes right now. :)
-
Been practicing here at home ... ;)
-
Yeah, I've got an 8 inch extension for my WH so the stick axes don't bother me at all, I did adjust the rudder to 22 though as mentioned above and it's much nicer now, was way too sensitive before.
-
If you zoom out a bit the proper tire textures appear, maybe it has something to do with LOD when in close?
-
Another one in progress, 403 "City of Calgary" Sqn. Specular files used are the duller versions for camo skins, if I can find a happy medium between this and the "Terminator 2 Chrome" above I'll be happy :)
-
Yep. One of my faves too :) Although the spinner is going to give me a heart attack... have to play with the curves nearer the tip, nothing's ever easy. RCAF style stenciling: Bunch more details to add... Thanks, I'm not really worrying too much about the liquid chrome effect because I don't know much about working with Specular layers yet. I know what you mean though, I plan to make 'em less airshow and more "operational" looking once the official template is released, right now it's just practice and getting to know where all the "bits" are mapped from. :)

Getting there...
-
No template from ED yet so this is all quick and dirty right now, as well as WIP obviously. Just getting markings size and placement down. For the ED guys, what is the approximate scale of the model/textures, I'm guessing about 8 or 9 pixels to the inch? Stay tuned....
-
Hmm, doesn't work for me. What exactly do you mean by "press Uninstall", my EMC installer doesn't have that option...?
-
Ok, so the next question is obviously: "How much?" :)

Hi guys, Am working on a second set of Canadian Forces fictional skins for the A-10C. This is a camouflage set based on the 1980s three colour scheme used by some Canadian military aircraft. There will be two types, one is the three-tone grey "Ghost" scheme, and the other (as shown) is with an olive green replacing one of the greys. Also working on a tan CF flight suit with appropriate Arid patches and insignia. Will look nice in Nellis (soon?)! Also, have been working on some fictional RAF schemes including an overall camouflage grey, OD green, and desert sand scheme with low viz markings. Also includes re-skinned pilot wearing RAF issue togs and a Mk4 helmet with Type Q oxygen mask.

Everything's prepped for assembly, just need to buy the fasteners and paint. Been busy at work and not a lot of free time. I have a week off I booked this month to get 'er done. Will be talking to you shortly about a UFC kit.
