I just wish I could find the center line after the base turn. Every time I roll out I'm way off. Is it more difficult to see the ship now or is it just me ?
-
Looks like there's no waypoint selected or your waypoint is the airbase. If it's the base that would explain the 0-NM to waypoint.
-
I thought about mapping it to the comm switch. Seeing it's only partially functional. Someday I'll remember before I strap in.

DCS: F/A-18C Screenshots and Videos (NO DISCUSSION)
Odey replied to Vitormouraa's topic in DCS: F/A-18C
A valiant effort. Wish I wasn't so low at the ramp. Might have planted the hook between the 2 & 3 wires. -
If you count the AMPCD you have 3 displays. I sometimes put checklist on it. Yep I was in a rush. meant to say left.
-
You're correct. Hook up, switch in carrier position.
-
Must be both. Now I'm going to have to check. :detective:

When trapping you’ll want HSI set to TACAN with course set to BRC. I like this on the right DDI. Easily accessible for changes this way and the advisories won’t block info at the bottom . HUD page set to right DDI in case the actual HUD fails. These are the most necessary displays. The third display is personal preference. Take off is, left DDI set to HUD. Right DDI set to FCS. This lets you see trim setting and double check there are no FCS issues. Remember one of your primary checks for landing is the Hook bypass switch. If your hook is down and the switch is set to field the AOA indicator will blink.

I believe the fuel state call is to let the “tower” know who has how much fuel. Basically so they can expedite landing jets with low fuel and get tankers airborne as needed.
-
Glad to hear it’s not just me. Thought I was getting quite proficient around the boat. After dealing with the burble and seeing my scores from the LSO it would appear more practice is in order. Not complaining. Trapping isn’t easy, which is why I was drawn to the Hornet. Challenge accepted.
-
Is it just me or is there a burble to deal with when on short final now ? My jet seems to wander in regard to altitude.

I noticed my frame rates got better an update or two ago. Enough with that though, I noticed this one rivet on the hornet that’s in the wrong place...

F18 HSI position info not working
Odey replied to flippit53's topic in Controller Questions and Bugs
I see. Great campaign, you’ll really enjoy it. If there’s any advice could give you...set your RADAR ALT on the HSI to 2000-3000 feet and watch your fuel. -
F18 HSI position info not working

You’re welcome. I have to ask, what mission ?. I’ve made it to the mig29 but haven’t noticed any problem yet. -
F18 HSI position info not working
Odey replied to flippit53's topic in Controller Questions and Bugs
Interesting. Glad you’re up and running. I’ll double check the procedure. Sorry if I pointed you in the wrong direction. -
The training mission will help you with this. The idea is to keep your dive attitude constant. Put the delay que on target. When the que changes to an X pickle away. It’s not like auto bombing in the Hornet or CCIP in the Viper. You don’t hold the pickle as a consent to release then the computer drops. Instead when the X appears you then to hit the button.

F18 HSI position info not working
Odey replied to flippit53's topic in Controller Questions and Bugs
You have to align the system.on your HSI: 1- Make waypoint 0 your TGT point by pushing the WPDSG button. 2- hit the UPDT button. 3- Push the DSG button. 4- Push the ACPT button. Done. -
Was a nightmare before I learned to change the HSI to decimal and precise waypoints. It’s still a little quirky though. I still have trouble programming 4 bombs. Usually have two bombs hit the same target. Once in a while I get it right. Wouldn’t be very fun if it was easy.

Ah, thanks. I know I had cleared that fault before but had no idea why. Tried to find what CLC stands for but it wasn’t in the NATOPS manual. Anybody know what CLC is ?
-
Yep, you got it. That’s what we all get. NATOPS F/A-18ABCD. Here’s the link https://publicintelligence.net/u-s-navy-f-18-natops-flight-manuals/

Explanation of jet behaviour under trim at low speed please
Odey replied to markturner1960's topic in DCS: F/A-18C
This is correct. Sorry I wasn’t very clear. Auto is up and away(maintains 1G in normal flight 100knots or 600knots the jet flies level). This is also the reason when you climb at a 45 degree attitude or greater you have to push the nose down to keep a specific attitude. Hands off in a steep climb the jet pulls to 1G. Half and full are the approach settings. The 1G logic is replaced by AOA. That’s why speed has a profound affect on pitch and altitude. 8 degrees of AOA at 100 knots and you sink. 8 degrees at 300 knots and you climb like a rocket. -
Explanation of jet behaviour under trim at low speed please
Odey replied to markturner1960's topic in DCS: F/A-18C
The Hornet does have auto. The FCS has 2 basic modes. “Up and away” and “powered approach”. Up And away trims pitch automatically to maintain 1G easing the pilots work load under normal flight. The approach mode caters to landing. The Hornet was designed around carrier operations. Landing on carriers is a different process than normal. AOA is the critical factor. AOA dictates the relationship the hook and main landing gear have to the ground/deck. Too shallow it may glide over the wires too steep it may bounce. No matter how fast or slow your approach needs to be depending on fuel and ordnance wight approach mode sets your AOA constant. That’s the whole reason for the flap switch. -
PBIT GO is all good. Weapon DEGD occurs if you have no weapons, WoW and I believe ARM switch off. Beacon is not implemented at the moment. TPOD may show NOT RDY if not installed IIRC. I never cleared the MIDS, BCN maybe a couple more. Seems you're on the right track.
-
Also disable nose wheel steering. Holding the BIT switch was tricky for me at first. I didn't realize you could "double tap" the left mouse button. Between these two things it took me forever to get the FCS BIT to work.

That's affirmative. Nothing is ever that simple. Like Two, To and Too. Of course with a 900+ page manual it might be complicated. :shocking:
