Thanks - yep, a bit late settling in on the flaps, too fast and should have gone around. :) -

Couple of notes on the updated training missions for 1.0.8 - In the DSMS stores training it gets stuck on the 'Put EO to LOC and setting a waypoint', in that I highlight the waypoint up/down select but it doesn't continue. I can use up/down select on the UFC but the training won't continue. - The Lightening training gets stuck on assigning the SOI, in that it says press 'K' but I get a 'No Maverick' on the right MFC and it won't continue (which is true, I just have a couple of AIM9's and the lightening pod). Is this just a key assignment change - it happens very early into the training too? -

Those fixed missions worked great - first landing at Batsumi with man and machine all ok, although the light hog almost ran out of runway and I was standing up on those wheel brakes by the end :) Thanks again EtherealN. -

Thanks for the quick response - appreciated. I'll try those new missions. The keyboard is just a standard Microsoft comfort one - they must have a weird function key set, but I've not noticed. Pause is a good key, but 'P' works too :) Cheers! -
I've been hanging on for far too long to pick up A-10C. I took advantage of the recent Steam sale (33% off - cool) and wanted to provide some feedback on my first hour: Context: I've played Lock-on, Black Shark a fair bit, and have played most flight sims over the last 10 years. - First off, install and download was great - easy and all worked. - Sim started up in 1024x768 windowed mode, which I guess is good as a 'fail-safe' default but looked tiny in my 1980x1080 screens. Off to options we go, which I guess is the norm. I'd consider detecting the users resolution and settings though? - I've got two screens but the 'Screens' selector had 1, 3 and various others. I know that I have to manually configure settings to make this work (i.e. some MFD's on the left like Black Shark) but my suggestion would be to put more common settings in there now. Multiple screen seems really common nowadays. - My MS-SWII and TrackIR were all recognized and worked well - good job. - I jump straight to training and 'Take Off' as I was familiar with the A-10A cockpit. - Ok, I have a lot to learn with the C :) That's a lot of buttons now. - First training mission worked great. Loved the 'click this' style of tutorial and really well done. Took off, got used to the VSI and coordinated turns and wished I'd set up some trim assignments. - Second mission was landing, but the tutorial got stuck on the 'Tune to ILS frequency 110.30 (right hand side) instruction. That was disappointing, as there seemed to be no way to carry on the tutorial. I haven't look in the bugs thread yet, but will raise if no-one has already. - I continued the mission and had a problem hitting F2 for an external view. I realized that my 'Function Key Lock' was off due to having to press 'SySRq/Break' to unpause. I'm not sure if my keyboard is that unusual, but that seems like a bad key to be the 'pause' key. I've no idea what F2 unlocked did (speed up time, the sound pitch increased?) - Graphics and smoothness were great on a Q6600@3.6, 8GB, Win 7 64 and ATI4890 - although the default settings (bushes, birds etc) were all off. I noticed it defaulted to 8x AA too which on a high res is a bit much for me. In summary, really happy and feeling good about all the things to play with. Good job, and thanks to all those people that went through the betas and helped out with feedback. Apart from the training mission bug it seems perfect!

Having followed Ubisoft's (let's be polite here) uh 'clumsy' marketing campaign of IL2: Cliffs of Dover then please promise to stay independent forever. :)
-
Cool - now officially excited.Thanks.
-
Eagerly awaiting Steam release too. Can't believe the IL2 sequel made it on there before DCS A10! Soon? I.e. is it weeks or months away?

Microsoft Flight 2011 http://www.thebitbag.com/2010/08/16/microsoft-flight-teaser-trailer/ Good ol Msft - fire the FSX team and then announce a new in-house title... No details as yet. Edit - wrong forum, mods please delete. Sorry.

Nice shots - looking forward to it. DX11 exclusively? I personally don't mind, as I'm on Windows 7 x64 already plus it would save some coding that you can put to better use (DX9/10/11 is like trying to support IE/FF/C/O if you're a web developer - always nice to be able to drop IE ;)), but just imagine the "XP-till-I-Die!" rage-induced flames otherwise :)

You could perhaps just make one, i.e a battery for the existing clip? It's just +5v from the USB wire I believe, but you could put a meter on it and check? Either that or just make a small 3 led clip yourself - the free track forum has lots of guides, and the parts are like 75 cents via Radio Shack.
-
Sure, although I think it is fair to say it does not work very well at all. My main problems were: - It's quite the performance hog, in that on a quad CPU it still took about 10% CPU for me - It can't cope with faces turned too much, i.e. once it loses tracking then it takes quite a while to reacquire. - There is no profile for BS or FC2 so you'll have to fiddle with lots of sliders to get something decent working - You need a decent webcam - my Microsoft HD 720p was ok, but I doubt anything without a decent hardware decoder would work well. Steps (1) Download the non-commercial license version of the FaceTrackingAPI (second link down, requires registration - 136MB download, hint: mailinator works...): http://www.seeingmachines.com/product/faceapi/downloads/ (2) Download FaceTrackNoIR Release 1 from sourceforge (bottom link): http://sourceforge.net/projects/facetracknoir/files/ (3) Download FaceTrackNoIR Update 20100716 (top link, i.e. newest file) http://sourceforge.net/projects/facetracknoir/files/ (4) Install (1). Note: It will probably put Intel IPP on too (a neat library of Intel utils for things like image recognition etc). This will take a while, and I just went for 'complete'. (5) Install (2). Accept the GNU license etc. (6) Unzip (3) and place the files, overwriting the existing ones from the previous step (look in Program Files (x86)\Abbequerque Inc\FaceTrackNoIR for where to place them - minus the (x86) bit if you aren't x64) (7) You should now have a FaceTrackNoIR icon on your desktop. Start it up, with a 'right mouse button / Properties / Compatibility / Run this program as Admin' if on Windows 7 or Vista and you have UAC enabled. (8 ) Use File / Open and open up the ARMA profile to get started. Change the 'Game Protocol' to 'Fake TrackIR'. Hit 'Start' in the 'Tracker Source' area. You should now see your lovely face, and after about 6 seconds a wee yellow drawing over the top to indicate it recognizes where your eyes, nose and mouth are. It might also just work leaving it as FreeTrack with the next step. (9) Read the step above for BS, i.e. Waldo - as it involves replacing the BS executable or altering it in a way that I am unsure if violate the forum rules or not, so don't want to get into trouble for. (10) Black Shark should now be ready to set up for TrackIR - can't remember what I did before (I actually have TrackIR, and before that a freetrack device, so this was just for giggles). Let me know if that helps. PS I should also point out that this util also supports 'virtual joysticks', i.e. you can emulate the joystick hat or mouselook rather than rely on TrackIR - might be worth a fiddle, especially if you see an issue with step (9)

To be honest, just a bunch of mod stickies at the top of the forum would work fine. Nate and a few others do help out, but none of us can do the normal forum stuff as regular users. If the concern from ED or the forum mods here is that this will be too time consuming or set a precedent that every forum now needs work, then in this case it's really just some housecleaning setting it up with stickies initially and then just occasionally looking in. PS If ED don't want to do this then I'll just message a generic steam mod and ask them to try to sticky some of the 'Welcome New Pilots' threads a few of us try to bump up now and again. An alternative would be to ask steam to turn off that forum and provide a link to this one instead - I just don't like to think of new BS users not getting good info...
-
Does anyone know if the AV8B or even the Harrier GR7 still have classified info on them? A VSTOL study sim would make a wonderful DCS module, suit the engine really well... Just saying :)
-
I think all Steam forums get volunteer mods by default (orange ones, green ones are Valve support), i.e. these people just respond if anyone presses the 'report post' button. They do an ok job (I don't think they are paid) but most times don't even know the game exists, though to be fair, Steam does have over 2500 titles on sale. My suggestion was more of an ED rep that understood the sim to help out. Wags or someone known to Steam from ED just needs to ask and it's probably something Steam themselves would prefer too.
-
Hi, Since DCS:BS has been on Steam it seems to have been pretty well received - thanks for offering that as an option ED. It is quite active too: http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=923 One concern is that it has no moderators to help it along, ie provide links to answered questions here or even to make simple FAQ stickies. The usual troll stuff gets deleted and banned, but there is no-one who actually knows the game helping the community along. As Steam users are often new to sims, especially of the complexity of DCS, then it may really help... Would it be possible for ED to setup a mod please? I understand it's something ED just simply ask the Steam folks to do. Thanks! PS I understand the focus would be here, just asking for a couple of stickies that link back here etc.

I uploaded it here if it helps: http://cid-5e80db9c40855fc5.skydrive.live.com/self.aspx/.Public/efA^_MoD^_2.0^_basic.rar

Snagged one - thanks! Installed fine with ModMan 7.2 Goodness, that Harrier is twitchy - there are quite a few craters at Batsumi today, is it a full flaps take-off plane? :) Appreciate the mod - is there a cockpit mod planned in the future too?
-
Ah, yep, I get it. I'll give it a go - thanks for the info
-
Are we there yet? :)
-
How? Plus as TrackIR user will the cockpit view still move around or is it static? i.e Monitor 1................Monitor 2 [ Main View ] [ Cockpit zoomed view ]

Nice trailer. I think this is good news. I had to dig around in my basement once I noticed FC2 had come out for my ol' LOMAC disk, so packaging this all up is a really good idea. I'm glad this was sorted out with Ubisoft. I love playing FC2, so thanks for that, and I hope for your continued success. I've got my credit card out ready for the pre-order of the DCS-A10 too... ;-)
