  1. That might be the case, but the context of that was on new modules, i.e. early availability of things like the L-39. Up to now the 'openbeta' channel on Steam has been part of the automated build/release mechanism for the DCS World base install. Now, this might not be the case with 1.5 (as some things have probably moved around) but thought I should say that in context that's not what I believe Wags was saying when he said 'early access'.
  2. Congrats on the milestone TFC, ED and partners. Looking forward to it.
  3. Thanks for the clarification. DCS World on Steam doesn't really make sense anymore as an option. When it was just the case of a holding back a release for a couple of weeks there then it sort of still made sense if people didn't mind the wait, but to offer combined skus (map + campaign) for less money than a single map sort of blows that idea out of the water. How could anyone knowingly promote DCS World on Steam when (a) it is more expensive for less things and (b) will always be released later? I'd personally feel disingenuous recommending it there, knowing that people get a better deal at the ED shop direct. Shouldn't we just direct all the Steam users to buy at the ED shop instead?
  4. Is that official Sith? We obviously are getting asked on the DCS Steam forums about this, so if you are confirming on behalf of TFC/ED that the Steam price will not be initially discounted plus the mission/campaign packs will not be included then it would be good to explicit to clear that up. PS You have to be careful of the Steam publisher agreement section 4 on this, as the 'like-for-like' technically is saying it's naughty to do this (as in different content per sku/price). ED are tiny enough for Valve not to care, but some indies have been 'delisted' so to speak, so thar be dragons etc.
  5. I wrote up the News/Q&A here for people that are allergic to videos or something.. http://forums.mudspike.com/t/dcs-world-news-q-a-and-gameplay-for-august-9th-2015/645 Thanks for the update Wags!
  6. Thanks for the contribution Chuck, and congrats to all those involved - that looked like great fun and a nice mission.
  7. A view of McCarran Airport - Terminal 3 Gate E7 please Matt. Had a really good time there once, which is rare for an airport. :)
  8. Great - thank you for looking at it so quickly. I've managed to bind the remaining keys to my account using the 'current login' button. When I visit the Module Manager (I signed in and out a couple of times) they unfortunately still don't show as being owned by me. The web license page does show them owned by my user though.
  9. Hello! My aim is to take a the serial key for my Steam bought F-86 module and the use here: https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/personal/licensing/ ..to bind it to my ED account. That way I can use the Module Manager to download it. I have other already bound modules and they all work fine (well, apart from the Hawk but that's another story). I enter the serial key in the URL above, and the info that comes back all looks good (shows me activations etc), but I get no 'Bind' or 'Unbind' options. In fact the 'bound to:' is set to none, which I guess makes sense for a Steam key? Any ideas? PS Incidentally, the keys all work, in that they activate the module fine if I go download installers, so this is more just about the binding bit. PPS I should add more info: Active: Yes Replaced: No Type: Test (in red, hmm) Bound to: none SF stuff: Activated: Yes Blacklisted/Expired/Exceeded: No Type: Release A couple of activations..
  10. You do know that Michael works for Facebook now and that was the Facebook Oculus talk at the Facebook Dev conf, F8? I'm confused what you mean I guess. Anyway, my point wasn't really on 'picking the best vendor', it was more that things will take a few years to sort out still and that integrating physical bits (or real rooms, or steering wheels etc) is something that will get solved in some form. The physical scanning of your room/desk/controllers with Lighthouse adds something to that I think.
  11. The Vive with the Lighthouse tech can track hands pretty well now. It takes some hacking and some imagination, but I think people with physical pits will be ok with VR. People find a way.. :)
  12. I didn't mean to imply anything nefarious. The ED saying of 'Everything is Subject to Change' is pretty much Valve's SOP, but exponentially so. They are pretty random and can be frustrating to deal with; and the only thing consistent about them over the years is their inconsistency (well, that and all the money). Hopefully ED do great out of that store/platform, as at the end of the day we all want DCS to sell well so we can have lots more DCS! :)
  13. Yep, it is at the account manager's discretion too, but I know what you mean in that they don't want devs doing a 'two weeks on, two weeks off' thing. When there wasn't a limit before some naughty devs used it as a technique to get listed more on the 'On Sale' tab more often (which works for a bit on getting traffic, but was ultimately abused). I just wanted to let cichlidfan know that Valve is rarely in control of, um well, practically anything :) . It's pretty much a self-service publishing thing, what with 22,330 apps in the db now.
  14. Not quite accurate Mr C, as in the Steam publishing portal allows a dev to set their own discounts to whatever and whenever. You just don't get any further negotiated discount from Valve if outside their 'calendar events'. As for Steam, I personally prefer it for DCS, but then I play a lot of different games. Happy to have the choice :) EDIT: But I should say also, it makes more sense for ED to stagger sales in different shops. If there was a Steam discount coming, then it would make sense to make it a couple of weeks after the ED one for sure. ED Store == more profit for ED, Steam Store == volume/profit and exposure to 110 million active shoppers.
  15. Our DCS 2 Hands-on write-up is ready here - enjoy: http://www.mudspike.com/exclusive-dcs-world-2-hands-on/ A nice write-up by Erik, and thanks to Matt for his time - appreciated!
  16. If the registration system is misbehaving, please feel free to email me at fearlessfrog@mudspike.com and we can sort that out - thanks.
  17. Go for it - and thanks for reading. Thanks very much to Wags and ED for the (amazing) video, and all your warm welcomes. We're obviously just getting started but really appreciate the feedback so far. Cheers!
  18. Also, wanted to say here in-case it helps other trying this driver out. On one of my screens the color profile looked 'off' when upgrading to these drivers. What had happened is that screen was connected via HDMI (I've run out of mDP), and the pixel profile colors are defaulted incorrectly. Reset that screen back to 'RGB 4:4:4 Pixel Format PC Standard (Full RGB)' in the Digital Panel - Pixel Format and it made a huge difference. More info here:
  19. These drivers have been pretty good for my 290X. I used the Catalyst Omega 'VRS' (Virtual Super Resolution?) setting and ran DCS at 4k (3840x2160 I think) on my center 1080p (I used three, but just wanted to test this on the single one). Frames per second we're pretty much the same (about 40 on the Huey Harbour Tour over the city, 60 elsewhere), with my i5 clocked at 4.5GHz. It looked pretty good scaled like that, with the main downside the DCS text was tiny and unreadable. The cockpit with TrackIR was super nice though - very clear, as this is pretty much a 'brute force' type of AA I guess.
  20. Hi! I've written a small guide on a fun hack I tried. I used a Ninetendo Wii Balance Board we had gathering dusk as some tail rotor pedals for the Huey. It actually works pretty well (I have proper pedals already, so this was just for fun), and is more engaging than using a twist stick or using a keyboard. If you have the bits already then please leave a comment on the guide if you get it to work: http://steamcommunity.com//sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=355718083 Note: A bunch of us at the Steam forums are trying to help people out with guides regarding DCS. There is so much to learn in DCS, and that audience needs decent write-ups and all sorts of help and guides. It really improves DCS for a lot of people when they find it via Steam to see community info. You can view current guides here, plus if you are experience with DCS then do consider adding one - we need your help! :D http://steamcommunity.com/app/223750/guides/
  21. I'm not deliberately causing trouble, but do want to understand exactly how it's done, so will look forward to the guide - thanks.
  22. I'm not sure you have the disposition for support, you're kind of rude. I don't think you are getting updates for modules you didn't buy on Steam from Steam, but do go into more detail on the exact steps and then maybe I'll get it.
  23. The updates don't come from Steam, and if the reason to use Steam is to get everything from one place then you're missing the point of why people use it (other than the sales). I can't use steam credit at the ED store. It's not that complicated to understand really.
  24. Well, every game is available for Steam now if you are ok with 'Add non-Steam game' and handling updates outside of Steam as well :) Btw, do you take Steam credit - I have lots, and planned on picking up the bf109 that way?
