MP or SP, 4x A-10C I've created a mission (attached) that I hope will help everyone to bust tanks more efficiently. I know it has for me! Follow the waypoints, as it shows you how to use your MK1 eyeball and run-in on the target properly. This version is specifically for NTTR, so will require the Nellis Map and DCS 2.0 Download NTTR Version If you don't have DCS 2.0 Installed: Download Caucasus Version P.S. - If you make fun of my voice overs it will hurt my feelings... not everyone can be Matt frickin' Wagner! :)

Decelerating/Transitioning from Cruise to Hover
StrongHarm replied to CrimsonGhost's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
No matter whether you use the pitch method or the roll/yaw method, pumping the collective will stop you about 50% faster. When I say pump, I don't mean frantically like you would a Swedish made pe.. nevermind that.. what I really mean is that you slowly lower and raise it. The pump rate depends on a lot of factors... but it should be in constant motion until you are stationary. EDIT: Although this is a fixed wing throttle rather than a collective, this video displays what I mean by pumping the collective: https://gfycat.com/HappygoluckyFrenchBluefish -
How do i get my Winmen to attack a building
StrongHarm replied to bunraku's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
noprobs. Check out my NTTR LFX mission in my sig. I load WCM/Mav on #1 and LGBs on wingman so I can switch. It's the perfect TTP (Training Tactics and Procedures) mission for my style. I fly it once a month just so I can analyze my procedures in a known consistent environment and make any necessary changes. Mastery is in consistent reproducibility. -
How do i get my Winmen to attack a building
StrongHarm replied to bunraku's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
I don't know of a way to order a wingman to attack a map object (it can be done in the editor though). I prefer to 'jump into' the wingman aircraft and do it myself. Go to the F10 map, select the wingman, hit RALT+J. Be aware that when you're switching aircraft it resets switches to default. In some of the training missions I've created I'll have 3 wingmen, each with a different weapons config. After I drop the ordnance from my own aircraft, I switch to another and practice different weapons types without having to restart the mission or RTB to rearm. -
You can make it fire when you are closer by using only the editor, without scripting. I would encourage learning scripting if you don't already know it though. It's much more agile than the editor. - Create a launcher unit - Create a new 'Trigger Zone' around the launcher unit with size equal to the max launch distance you want - Select launcher unit's 'Triggered Actions' (looks like 4 leaf clover) - Add action of type Option, ROE, Weapon Hold - Add another action of type Option, ROE, Weapon Free - New mission trigger, Switched Condition, Part of Group OUTSIDE Zone, Flag True 01 - New mission trigger, Switched Condition, Part of Group IN Zone, Flag True 02 - New mission Trigger, Switched Condition, Flag Is True 01, AI Task Push, Launcher - Weapon Hold - New mission Trigger, Switched Condition, Flag Is True 02, AI Task Push, Launcher - Weapon Free The launcher unit will only fire when someone is inside the Trigger Zone you created. An alternative to altering it's ROE is to turn it's AI off, then turn the AI back on when someone is within the Trigger Zone. This is really nasty though, because the radar doesn't light you up until a half a second before a missile is in the air. I like to use this method in mountain passes as it's more realistic.. but I wouldn't use it indiscriminately or maliciously as people won't like your missions.

If you don't mind me adding, GGT; In the latest variant of the AH-64 they also have UAVs they can deploy to covertly and autonomously scan forward from standoff distance. The gunner can view a video feed from the UAV for target validation and situational awareness. The AH-64 has a monocle connected to the helmet that works with other systems for target acquisition and designation. The monocle on the AH-64E is much more sophisticated than monocles on previous Apaches, and a century beyond the monocle you may have seen if you've flown KA-50 Blackshark. Look up Apache Longbow IHADSS and TADS.

I think Architectural (building kind) tasks will be dominated by the HoloLens. I was absolutely floored when I saw this video at the Ignite conference and considered the implications. This is on topic, by the way, because the F-35 uses similar 'augmented reality' in the PVI. I'm not surprised. When I was in military aviation in the 90s, I saw tech then that is just now starting to make it to the mainstream. I would imagine that the HoloLens is extremely primitive compared to PVI capability.

This thread may get the award for furthest off topic heheh "Building Architect" was shortened to "Architect" in the days before you could build something virtual. The word is derived from the Latin "Architectus" which means "Director of Works". The Old English word "Architect" is a derivative which means "High Crafter". What I do is not design or development. I assure you that I've 'architected' data universes and semantic layers (and the environments where they reside) that are far more complex than any skyscraper. So.. trendy? Not interested. Descriptive? Yes please. Although I feel justified in calling myself a BI Architect, if you petition Merriam-Webster and have the term changed, I'd be happy to call myself a "BI High Crafter"... :)

This, my friend, is the difference between Analyst and Architect... Pedantic and Productive. I prefer the term "Data Intelligence" since the focus isn't always related to business.. but that term is already taken by those that analyze 'page hits' and 'likes' crap.. old terms that didn't evolve with the industry.

I'm a Business Intelligence Architect who did some work with an unnamed DOD company to analyze 'battlefield situational awareness declutter analytics' to include some theoretical work that residually made it into these avionics. Think about it this way; if you've worked for a company that is heavy on spreadsheets, then you move to a company that has a fully functional Business Intelligence Dashboard Suite.. you've experienced exiting a Gen4 cockpit and entering a Gen5 cockpit. The important point is that they've transitioned from providing information that can be analyzed, to providing focused analysis which is a result of computing large amounts of information. Here's an example; you can look at a page of numbers that shows the traffic of the TOR network between countries, but it would take a while to decide where the heaviest flow is. If you look at the chart in the link below, you can almost immediately make a decision. You can further click on countries to 'drill in' to more information. This is the difference between a traditional HUD(think spreadsheet) and PVI(think interactive aggregated indicators). https://torflow.uncharted.software/

OK.. forget everything I said before. This thread got me to thinking that there's an easier way.. so I figured it out and modified my settings: - "SnapView6" = Modifier + Brake FWD That's all you need to do to lock right MFCD snapview. To go back to normal view bring the brake switch to the middle position. No need to use modifier. This is much more efficient.
-
My pleasure. To be more clear: - "Cockpit Panel Toggle View" = Modifier + BrakeBack - "View Right Slow" = Modifier + BrakeFWD To lock right MFCD, hold modifier and switch SpeedBrake back then forward. To go back to regular view use modifier+brake back again.

What's the fastest way to lock mavericks on target?
StrongHarm replied to dubik's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
Xavven, I totally agree that there can be situations where HUD visual mav lock is superior to other methods. This is dependent on the target profile. If it's visible and not armed, that's a great scenario. For situations where easy acquisition with acceptable risk isn't there, guns can do the job well. Having blufor pinned by multiple tanks is a real sht situation I hope I'm never in. If you're interested in increasing your gun effectiveness, give my Tank Busting 101 tutorial mission a try. It's not just for novices as it goes over some in depth TTP. I try to fly it once a month to stay proficient. I can now take out 16 T90s with a single load of rounds without getting tagged by their HMGs. I was lucky to clear 2 before I started using the mission. -

StrongHarm replied to dubik's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
I acknowledge that MK1 eyeball acquisition of target for mav lock is an option, and may be the best method if your targets are sitting on a tarmac or if they're flashing their lights for you, but I would encourage you to take advantage of all subsystems and sensors available to you. For instance; - Get a target visual over your wing - Approximate distance and position on your TAD - Set markpoint - Slew your TGP for positive target ID and fine lock - Terrain mask to get in closer - Pop up and snap off a mav - Mask and egress It takes some discipline to learn how to fully utilize all the sensors and subsystems available to you, but once you take full advantage to "cheat the battlefield", it feels pretty good and is well worth the time spent developing/learning TTP. -

From 8nm? -
In my opinion, FD is only useful when you don't want to use Route Mode. When maneuvering I prefer to disable the heading and altitude channels, leaving the pitch and roll dampeners active. If you have Alt and Hdg bound to your HOTAS it's a much simpler matter than holding the trim button or engaging FD mode. Primarily because if you re-engage HDG AP, it locks that new heading as if you trimmed, unlike FD mode.

You can use the keyboard CTRL+0 then # to lock snapviews. I like to snap to the right MFCD when I'm searching for a target sometimes. If you click modifiers in the control setup you can make a button or key a modifier. I've made the Paddle a modifier, then I use Modifier+BrakeSwitch BACK then FWD which locks me to NUM6 so I can view R:MFCD until I hit Paddle+Brake Back.

This is what I love about DCS; it gives us the opportunity (should we each so choose to slow down enough and understand it) of experiencing the tactical advantages provided to the modern warfighter. You utilized the tools available in achieving superior situational awareness and you "cheated the battlefield". Most civilians would otherwise not even understand that this is possible. Consider the discussions around Desert Storm, where coalition forces were vastly outnumbered but destroyed the enemy with almost no losses (73 easting for example). People said "oh, it must have been an unfair fight with an unprepared enemy." No.. this was the 4th largest force in the world which was arguably the most battle hardened. What allowed us to "cheat the battlefield" was our superior TTP and situational awareness. To be able to experience this first hand on a Saturday afternoon, while sipping a glass of scotch, is something for which I'll never be able to thank ED enough.

Decelerating/Transitioning from Cruise to Hover
StrongHarm replied to CrimsonGhost's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
Yes! I was happy when I figured this out. I use it to determine if I have drift while in auto-hover. It allows you to trim up if wind or terrain are causing issues staying in one spot. Prior to figuring this out I used to stare down at the ground until I was sure I wasn't drifting hahah. -
Good to hear the 105s did the trick. What did you set your HOF at? In beta the magic number was HOF 1800 dropped from above 15k, IRC. A few versions ago it was HOF 1000 from above 12k. I'm now playing with HOF 800 and as long as I'm above 10k AGL it seems effective. Has anyone tested HOF enough in the new versions to contribute empirical data? REMINDER:Empirical (adjective) - based on, concerned with, or verifiable by observation or experience rather than theory or pure logic (antonym:theoretical) In other words (and I say this with kindness); please respond if you've tested HOF in 1.5 or 2.0 and have results. There are a lot of great opinions on these boards, but in this case theories are like screendoors on submarines.

Cik, I would agree that ED needs to add more units in the future, and a dynamic theater will be very welcome. If you look at it objectively though, they're not creating a game like an FPS where physics and objects are based upon repeatable static code. They're building a simulation foundation that will in ten years be something so epic in scale that no other company will have the time or resources to build it's equivalent within a reasonable period of time. This is a lofty and complicated task. I admire the fact that they aren't taking shortcuts. I say this not in opposition to your words, but as a reminder that DCS is bigger than the last update or module. I often have to remind myself. I can say that I've been flying DCS for 7 years and I've never once been bored. There's never been anything like it in my opinion. DirtyFret, I'm glad Tank Busting 101 helped you as much as it helped me. I was going to keep the mission to myself as I didn't think anyone else would find it useful, but then decided to put some voice acting and TTP in it and put it in userfiles, just in case. I was surprised when I learned that a lot of people fly it regularly.
