  1. Oh I see. Looks like I'll be waiting not only for the stable version, but also for the manual. The thrill of flying is unbeatable, and of course I love to blowshtup, but there can be no denying that I'm here for the tech. I've read the manual for each previous module in it's entirety before my first flight, and I'm convinced that it's much more rewarding this way. I'll wait and fly this study sim when I can study it. Thanks for the responses.
  2. Thanks exray. The pocket guide gives me something to look at, but I was really interested in the full manual. Is it somewhere in that enormous post you linked?
  3. Is the Razbam Harrier manual available anywhere online? I purchased the module, but I want to wait until it's released for the stable version as I don't want a third install of DCS on my system. I would however, like to get started reading the manual. Anyone have a link or information?
  4. AP in a helo should be viewed differently than AP in fixed wing aircraft. KA-50 route mode AP is similar to that of a fixed wing, but that's where the similarities end. If you use only the trim reset hold method, you're gaining no advantage of having separate AP channels because you're effectively altering the values of the 4 channels simultaneously, even if that's not your intention. If you view the separate channels as independent however, you can find added benefit. I have the 4 AP channels set up to the CMS on my WH HOTAS. If I want to change heading I do CMS up to disable heading AP, find my new heading (without fighting the dampener), then do CMS up again to re-enable heading AP. At this point if I don't have a waypoint selected, I'll see the XTE Steering Mark change and know that a new value has been set for heading AP. My speed, pitch, bank, and alt all stay the same since I didn't overwrite those values in the computer. This even works in Route Mode. The one exception to this practice for me is when I'm evading a missile. In that case I have EmergDisableAP set up to CMS push. Also, if changing your entire flight profile (speed heading and alt simultaneously) then holding trim or using FD mode is still the best method. By learning to use the separate channels effectively, I became a much better Blackshark pilot. I should also mention that I find AltAP really useful for doing popups. 1. Find target while at a far standoff distance 2. Create datalink point for target 3. Use ABRIS to find a terrain masked ingress to move to a closer firing position 4. Mask to firing position and select datalink ref 5. Uncage shval and camera will move automatically to datalink 6. Set auto turn to target 7. With Alt AP on, move collective until you slowly start to gain alt then back it off a bit 8. Turn Alt AP off to pop up above the terrain then set Alt AP on again to stop 9. Take the shot 10. Turn Alt AP off and collective down After I got used to this method I found that my popup shots were much quicker and effective. It's good TTP.
  5. I wanted to share with you a series of novels that I've been a military consultant on which features the KA-50 Blackshark. It's the Arisen series by Michael Stephen Fuchs. It's basically about special operators in the zombie apocalypse. It makes the Walking Dead look like a soap opera. Right now it's #1 in Military Science Fiction, #1 in Post-Apocalyptic Science Fiction, and in the Amazon Top 150 overall. I didn't consult on the KA-50 of course, but on my personal experiences during the war.. and also I'm American so what do I really know about the Blackshark other than what ED has so graciously provided to me. Anyway, check this series out, the Blackshark is awesome in it, and every book in the series is bravo Zulu. Edit: Yes, forgive me for not providing links. - The series of 13 books can be found on Amazon in Kindle, Paperback, and Audible format. - I would start with the prequel, Genesis, Book 0.5. You get to meet Maximum Bob the SEAL! I wish there was a book just about him prior to the Zulu Alpha. - The other deviation is Nemesis, Book 8.5 which cuts away to SpecOps ODA Team 555, or the Triple Nickle for some important back story. You get to meet Jake the operator who made selection with a prosthetic leg, and the most plausible origin of a zombie virus I've read in the genre. - A word about the audible books: Somehow, he secured B.V. Larson as his narrator. If you listen to audio books, you know that he is hands down the best narrator there is. I usually read the eBook version then later listen to B.V. Larson bringing it to life. - A word about the eBooks: Fuchs sends me his eBooks before they launch. I thought this was because I contributed SME, but I came to find out that he distributes his books for free to anyone who has served. You really have to respect that. He's not only an absolutely brilliant author, he's also a really good dude.
  6. Sorry for bringing this old thread back, but did anyone find a way to do this without a mod? I'd like to have all aircraft keep all lights on regardless of threat level or distance from airfield.
  7. I've been avoiding the forums like the plague since they've devolved due to a hand full of argumentative and nasty people. I did however, have to stop in and notify you of Season2 Episode1 of "Air Warriors" on the Smithsonian Channel. This actually aired in 2015, but this is the first time I've seen it. If you haven't watched this, I would highly recommend it. The next airing is Oct.20th if you have the Smithsonian Channel. If not, you can purchase it on Amazon Video: https://www.amazon.com/A-10-Warthog/dp/B017WOEDHC/ http://www.smithsonianchannel.com/shows/air-warriors/a-10-warthog/1003487/3418202
  8. Wolle, Eject Command: Snowtiger is right, you have to perform the L-CTRL+E three times. To do this click the ADD button, which is mid screen in the Action Attributes pane. You currently have a Command1 there, you should see Command2 and 3 after your done, and they should all have the same command in them. Multiple commands for a single execution is what allowed me to make this verbose profile. Powerful stuff. Pinky Switch: There are three pinky switch commands; P + L-CTRL/R-CTRL/SHIFT. Did you use the one you intended to?
  9. JG, I've added a kneeboard reference. Just drop the KA-50 folder into \Saved Games\DCS\Kneeboard. There are a lot of voice commands, but there are a lot of variations of just a few. The reason I added so many was to prevent having to split the commands which takes away from situational awareness. For instance, I could have done Wingman One (then wait for menu) then Return to Formation. Instead of two separate commands you have "Wingman one return to formation" and it goes through all the menus automatically. If this isn't to your taste I understand, but I hope that after you try it you'll find that it's much more convenient.
  10. Attached a new file to OP. Added additional datalink commands for clearing targets more quickly. ZIP file includes new pics for kneeboard that can accessed in flight. I haven't been using the DCS forums for a while because of people like Yurgun and Flagrum. I can't stomach the negative and argumentative direction these boards have taken. I do however, want to keep my community files and documentation updated in case anyone needs them. If you have questions and I don't answer, hopefully someone else will be able to.
  11. Yes, the ABRIS reflects static (not dynamic) information *as of spawn*. The ABRIS has no active sensors or bidirectional communications(beyond GPS reception). It's a like a Garmin, modified for combat.
  12. Have you tried performing a new weapons load? There isn't an OSB for it, so you have to hold an OSB down (such as stats) then choose Load, then that OSB to replace it with Load. Then select Load OSB and Load All. It won't affect NAV.
  13. I believe you're right. I did some weapons testing and found that the AGM-64G/K does more residual blast damage to surrounding units than the MK-84, GBU-10, or GBU-31. This should not be the case, but I'm sure ED will modify weapons for the 2.5 release.
  14. You'd be hard pressed to find 16 bit drivers for W-LAN. And if you did, you'd have to set the I/O address manually and reserve an IRQ and DMA to get it to run. This would probably take up too much of the Blackshark's resources, since Betty uses a soundcard and they *always* demand IRQ 12 and create a conflict. Would probably have to run Himem.sys as well..
  15. Well it's not through USB, since the ABRIS has a 486DX processor. If I had to guess, I'd say it's done through an old COM or Parallel Port cable cannon plug under a panel. Or 10Base-T heheh.
  16. The tactical information available on the ABRIS isn't dynamic. It's from a static data load before flight. Think Data Load Cartridge.
  17. Since we don't have to 'pay for' the weapons we employ in DCS I prefer the CBU-105. I've found that if I take out the threats with Mavs with good standoff, then get most of the armored targets with 105s, I can clean then up with cannons. You can rack up 50 targets in a single sortie if the situation is right and you do it smartly. IRL 38s are an ingenious and inexpensive way to ensure good BDA with limited collateral damage. I'm anxious to see how the F-35 does with the (twice as expensive, but 10 times more capable) GBU-39. With advanced terminal guidance, moving target capability, and a 60nm range, it might be a real CAS game changer.
  18. That was a non-political recommendation based upon my opinion. A friendly heads up. "You said never tell people" while you were "telling me".. and I'm a people. :) do we see the irony yet? Were you just joking or are you one of those whacky people who quotes The Onion as a credible source of information?
  19. I would recommend staying away from warisboring.com for anything beyond the sim article. They're the equivalent of Hollywood actors who play in action films where they kill 100+ people in a single movie, but then speak out against the right to bare arms. warisboring.com is highly political in the left leaning sense. They think military hardware is 'movie cool' but also think it's a crime whenever that same hardware is used in battle. Just one veteran's opinion.
  20. Grimes, do you know if this has been resolved, or if there's a work around to allow an aircraft to follow a non-host client?
  21. xaoslaad, yes there's a big difference between 980s in SLI and 980ti in SLI. The 1080 is significantly better than 2-980s, but only fractionally better than a single 980ti. It has to do with the architecture difference between the 980 and 1080/980ti. With that said, once games start to take advantage of the new efficient coding features within the 1080, it could be as much as 20% better than the 980ti instead of 2% better. I don't have any stuttering in SLI, it's smooth as butter. I used Fish's post to configure SLI. His rig is just 2600k@4.5gHz, 2xGTX970's. 16gb ram and he posts a video in the same thread showing how smooth his method gets 2.0 to run in SLI. I recommend his method.. and also his youtube videos.. dude has good ideas and a pleasant accent heheh. ctguy1955, it's my opinion that DCS runs much smoother on Windows10. You can read extensive philosophical debate over this topic here on the forums. I've been in technology since Windows 3.11, and I was a tester for ED for a few years, so I have an intimate knowledge of both platforms. But at the end of the day an educated opinion is still just an opinion. I haven't taken the time to collect empirical data. joebloggs, I'm using the JU7500 and it looks *outstanding* when you set it up correctly. I've run it side by side with a Samsung monitor made for gaming, and it looks just as good. Both for DCS/games and regular work. Here's my post on it: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=157901
  22. I'm averaging 80-100fps in 4k with 2 980ti in both ver of DCS in max settings, but I also have an 8 (physical) core Intel 5960X extreme processor overclocked to 5ghz, which I think makes a significant difference for DCS. From what I've read the GTX1080 is only a small fraction faster than the 980ti in games that aren't coded to take advantage of the new architecture. There are also reports that having an SLI setup of 980tis are still better for 4k and VR setups, as a single card (even the 1080) is not up to the task of running apps in 4k at the highest quality settings. The standard 980 in SLI is actually *worse* for VR than a single 980, since VR isn't fully optimized for SLI and it doesn't have the architecture that the 980ti or 1080 does. http://www.gamespot.com/articles/nvidia-geforce-gtx-1080-review/1100-6439863/
  23. I prefer 700ft as well. RPM should further affect the area of dispersal, but it doesn't do anything in DCS. In my thorough weapons testing, 87s fell short to 97s. 97s consistently killed more soldiers than 87s for instance. I don't bother to load 87/103, but ED may one day incorporate true blast damage and fragmentation. Then they'll be a real asset for wide dispersal high wind situations (they don't have parachutes). [ame=http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=86e_1455565360]LiveLeak.com - SU-34 attacks Haritan with two cluster bomb strikes[/ame]
  24. I should also mention; sometimes I'll get in orbit and place a mark point on each target group (TMS Short Right from TGP, HUD, or TAD). You can then go to first mark, China FWD then fire, go second mark, China FWD then fire, etc. I use this method in a high threat area where I have multiple targets but I want to avoid multiple passes.
