As a big fan of the KA-50 module, I'd like to see some effort made on a Cobra or Apache module. That would be sweet. They were developed in '67 and 83' respectively, so hopefully there would be enough declassified systems to make it viable... and with the new multicrew code.. woah.

I just watched the AH-64 episode of 'Air Warriors' on The Smithsonian Channel. Highly recommended!

.. and I endorsed this post..

Outstanding! I'm on duty for the foreseeable future. Will notify command (wife). Thanks Steve!

I'm a big Shark fan, but if you put feelings and philosophy aside, there is no real comparison. The AH-64 has no rival right now.. not by half... no not even the KA-52. (If someone is thinking the new Chinese AH.. which is nothing more than a converted civilian helo with off the shelf components.. never express that thought to anyone without a smiley face :) This may not be true for very long though.. interesting times.

Anyone know if there are release notes for this? I'd like to start the campaign but have hesitated due to the number of critical bug reports.

We had a maintenance request once that said "relief tube too short". Seat mech went out and found that the relief tube was just wrapped around a bolt. On the Maintenance Action Form he put "CND, checks 4.0 with enlisted c**k. LOL! Maintenance Chief had to leave the room several times to laugh while chewing the guy out. EDIT: Context - relief tube is attached to the relief horn, which you piss in.

Success - UHD TV as Monitor
StrongHarm replied to StrongHarm's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I should have mentioned, the cable is critical to getting Chroma4 and a clean picture. I chose the Monster 27Gb. It's about $100 but I didn't want to take any chances using a lesser cable. This cable has LEDs on it to indicate whether you're in SD/HD/4k. Pretty cool. -

Cavemanhead, take a look further back in the thread. Someone stated that they wish their 4k monitor wasn't so small because the text and icons are so small. People with <30 typically have to keep their desktop in a lower resolution then change it for games. I'm in technology and find the huge screen real estate to be a big asset. Here's some info on Chroma 4:4:4. Essentially it means that all colors can interlace other colors without distortion. http://hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1869675 I've not seen any graphical artifacts such as texture swimming or anything else. Again, this looks better than my 120hz monitor built just for gaming. On the subject of 120hz vs. 60; this would be the one thing about the JU7500 I'd like to see evolve. 4k and 120hz isn't really doable right now (yes, there are dynamic refresh gaming monitors that are more than 60hz, but that's not true refresh, it's emulated). I do much prefer 120hz because it's easier on the eye, but it's a very small price to pay for a large monitor capable of stunning color and performance at 4k. -

Outstanding, hope you enjoy it Wrecking Crew! Flying is a lot better when the HUD is near lifesize right?! I'm pushing mine with 2x980Tis as well and I've never seen any lag or graphic issues even at 4k/ultra settings. In my experience the JU7500 is much better than any monitor I've ever used.. I'm really loving the size and res. It's about time they made a TV capable of meeting monitor specs. I suspect they could have done it long ago if they saw profit in it. -
Flight Qualifications Campaign
StrongHarm replied to Sabre-TLA's topic in A-10C Basic Flight Training Qualification DLC
I hope that ED provides a converter. Simply translating all coords would be helpful. I would suggest translation reference could be Batumi to Nellis. I was going to do the geospacial math to create a calculator to move all units closer to the center of the map then manually change coords in the mission file, but after a few minutes of thinking about it I decided it would be easier to just SHIFT+Click groups, move them to the center of the map manually, then readjust them to perm positions hahah. -

Sabre, be aware that I just ported a mission from v1 to v2 by opening the mission file and editing Theater = NTTR. Of course, all unit positions were off the map to the east, but I moved them to an appropriate place on the NTTR map and made some adjustments to the triggers and it worked like a charm. Be aware that it lost paths for sound files and some trigger conditions, but it was easier than starting from scratch. Hey Mower! Thanks! Agreed, but you have to admit that the Shark is more survivable than the Hawg at SEAD/DEAD. I could have just had some AI F-16s go in and prep the AO, but that wouldn't have been as fun. :) -

I should also mention; you have an AI wingman that has a different loadout you can take over with RSH+J if you want to work with different weapons. Also, if you fly KA-50 in SP you can call in AI hawgs with F10 then take over the lead bird with the same key combo. -

The JU7500 has text that's as clear as my other monitors.. actually more clear than one of them. There is a caveat, but it's not an issue for me; PC mode = 21ms response, Game mode = 8ms response. I use game mode to get quick response times if playing BF4 or shooter games and the text is 'slightly' more fuzzy while in desktop in that mode but not so much that it's distracting or even completely noticeable. When not playing something that needs quick response times, I simply change the source type from Game to PC with two button pushes. Flying DCS in game and pc mode looks the same so there's no need to switch modes. The difference in text clarity on the desktop between the modes is not that dramatic. I've read some posts by people who say they can't see a visible difference so they stay in game mode all the time. -

Hey WC. I have a pretty large desk and the TV sits toward the back of it. Rather than give you a ballpark, I just measured it out at exactly 47". It doesn't seem too large.. as a matter of fact my other monitors seem too small now. At 48"/4k desktop icons are the same size they'd be on a 27"/1080, but just across more real estate. When I work I divide the screen between 4 apps: email, Visual Studio, browser, coms. It's like having 4 23" monitors with no bezels. You can use a sound bar. Video and sound are both transmitted over the HDMI cable to the TV and the TV has audio out. I have mine setup PC HDMI out > TV HDMI in > TV Optical out > Stereo Tuner Optical in. I can hear sound through both the TV speakers (which help my center channel) and the 7.1 stereo speakers. -
Live Fire Exercise - A-10C/KA-50
StrongHarm replied to StrongHarm's topic in User Created Missions General
I've posted the Nellis version as promised: https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/1720895/ -
I use the Zmark method as well, but usually when working with guns and iron bombs where standoff isn't necessary. The first strafe disperses the enemy and automatically sets the Zmark. You can then you can simply switch your SteerPoint Select dial from Mission or FLT Plan to Mark (Z will automatically be selected) then slave all to steerpoint. Takes 2seconds.

StrongHarm's NTTR LFX (DCS2)
StrongHarm replied to StrongHarm's topic in User Created Missions General
The purpose of this mission is to provide an immersive environment to practice weapons deployment. There are fixed targets with fixed variables so you can try different tactics and procedures (such as best HOF for CBUs, or best orbit slant range for instance). You'll interact with a virtual STO who flies your left wing in an F5. There is radio chatter from a Red Flag recording, and F15s come in at some point to provide air cover. You can fly this SP or MP. In SP there's an option to fly KA50 for SEAD then call in AI Hawgs to hit the targets. In MP Hawgs are given orders to hold WP2 until KA50s can SEAD (if clients are detected in KA50s). KA-50s will also find an unscheduled mission to hunt down some mobile targets while Hawg clients hit the primary and secondary objectives. -

With DCS2 and ultra shadows it's not as hard to spot targets anymore. Particularly in 4k. What I'm about to say may incite a riot on these boards from the "never ever decrease throttle" crowd: I think that low and slow can be an asset if you have good SA and do it in a low/no threat area with decent standoff. With decreased angle and at slower speeds it's much easier to spot targets. The "always full throttle" crowd is right though, it is high risk, especially if you don't have sufficient terrain to mask in. Mission profile would really dictate target ID method. Consider that if the target is in a contested area that could have a lot of threats, and it's an attack mission, command would likely send in JTAC spotters or drones to perform target ID. If it's a CAS type mission where there are already boots on the ground and they can say with some certainty that there are no threats on their backtrail that are high risk to aircraft, they'll probably send the warthog in to deliver CAS through talkon from the JTAC/TACP/SOTACC with that element. In my missions I handle threats in the following manner: 1. Have Hawgs hold at a waypoint until AA threats are neutralized by SEAD/DEAD (high) 2. Provide Hawgs with NAV points of last known locations of AA threats (low) 3. Provide Hawgs with certainty that AO was already swept for AA other than Manpads. (minimal) I handle target ID in the following manner: 1. Attack - target location is given through NAV or JTAC a majority of the time 2. CAS - target location and SA is provided through red/green smoke or JTAC 3. Seek and Destroy - Pilot is given a 10k area or terrain reference and must ID target alone. (rare) 4. Line Battle - Target rich area.. take your pick and kill it. In reality Hawgs rarely go in without proper support.. but this is the rule, there are exceptions AFAIK. I believe it's unreasonable for people to create too many missions where Hawgs have no support.. unless it's a zombie apocalypse mission I guess.

Thanks brother! I've been flying since beta, but there are a lot of people on these boards more knowledgeable. My secret power is that I've read the manual 82 times heheh. The awesome thing about DCS is that we're emulating a field of work where people inherently overcome what was previously perceived as human limitations. We get to overcome our own personal perceived limitations in doing so. Keep reaching and teach me something later (beauty of these boards)!

Agreed, it can be imprecise. The more I do it the better I get at it though. I like to absorb all the land marks I can when getting a visual fix then transpose that to the top down map in the TAD. Distance guesstimations get better with each attempt. I'm pretty close most of the time. One of my favorite tactics is spotting a threat visually, then terrain masking and setting up a mark on the tad. I'll then unmask and snap off a mav quickly since I have it pre-slewed. It's really a rush when it works out.
