  1. The best way to go about having fixed reference points for search would be to look at your TAD and create a few mark points. You can then anchor TAD to the markpoint and slew sensors to it. For details and other great ideas for target spotting read this old thread thoroughly: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=67432 Also, view Gerry Abbott's excellent video on efficiently using the TAD and markpoints: [ame] [/ame]
  2. = 'parallel track' pattern
  3. I prefer 10k at 10nm from target at 200knts which requires low bank angle. I then use ALT AP so I can concentrate on my MFCD (yes slow can be bad, but at high alt with a good standoff you can nose down and rush the deck pretty easily). This is only if I know the threat picture around the target. If I don't want to orbit the target because of uncertain threats I'll do 15k+ at 10+nm and run a tight and long parallel track on two consistent pre-decided vectors (so I don't lose SA and end up over a threat). I'll change direction not based on a predefined distance, but on effectiveness of TGP visual. This is personal pref.. it may not be good or realistic SOP.
  4. I find that zooming out with TGP to speed up slew and then zooming back in for fine adjustment is efficient. I wouldn't want to increase the slew rate too much as it would invalidate the slew speed ratios tied to zoom level.
  5. I noticed that I can play Battlefront in huge battles and maintain over 100FPS in 4k in ultra quality (2x 980Ti) without ghosting or lag that could interfere with 'twitch' battle. I was surprised that a TV could keep up with that kind of game. After some research I found that the Input Lag is 21ms and the Response Time is 8ms. In contrast, my other monitor made specifically for gaming is 16ms Input Lag and 5ms Response Time. Not too shabby.
  6. What bns130 said. The JU7500 has the advantage of better color over the 6500, but they are both HDMI 2.0 chroma 4:4:4 capable. My goal was to find the best balance of input lag and response time. Here's a good list of UHD TVs for PC monitor use. It shows whether they are 4:4:4 capable and what their lag times and user ratings are. You can see why I chose the JU7500. http://www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/by-usage/pc-monitor/best Edit: The cable you use is critical. I chose the Monster 27Gbps SUHD cable with integrated throughput indicator. Edit2: I just noticed that I posted the same link as you bns130.. we're definitely on the same track.
  7. It's definitely getting a full 60hz at 4k. I've tested it for refresh, chroma, and ghosting and it passes all tests with flying colors (punned). Port2 on the OneConnect says "DVI" under it. It's apparently the only port that can put out 60hz at 4k with 4:4:4 Chroma for PC. You also have to select PC as the connection type in the setup for port2. I've not tried the other ports to see how they perform, but that's because I did a lot of research before the purchase and knew the steps to get full PC capabilities from it out of the box. The OneConnect box it comes with is cool. It has a single cable that goes to the TV, then all display connections go into the box. It's like an HDMI hub. I've also verified it's getting true 4k while in 60hz because I purchased the 27Gbps monster cable that has LEDs that indicate SD/HD/4K.
  8. After a few weeks of usage I still find that the color and performance are better than I expected. My one and only gripe is that on rare occasion I have to cycle the TV power when it doesn't autoswitch to a new resolution properly. For those of you who commented about funds; I didn't intend for that to be a topic. I can only say that I'm older and have been in my career field for 25 years. Keep pushing and you'll have all the funds you need. The TV cost was small compared to my other recent PC related investments. If I can do it so can you, be patient and make it happen. Best wishes.
  9. I've been watching LCD TVs for years waiting for acceptable performance as a PC monitor. I've just now pulled the trigger and wanted to share in case others have the same goal. The TV I finally pulled the trigger on is the Samsung 48" Curved UHD. http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-UN48JU7500-Curved-48-Inch-Ultra/dp/B00T48CZ84 I've tested the chroma at stable 4:4:4, and I've ran ghosting tests and see no significant issues. I'm able to run DCS 2.0 at min60 FPS at 4k 60hz in ultra settings with a pair of 980Ti. The reason I chose the 48" over the 40 or 55 is that this size/resolution combo makes the icon and text on the 48"/4k the same size they'd be on a 27/1080. The picture and performance are better than I could have imagined and having a life-size forward canopy adds to immersion greatly. I only hope my investment isn't nullified by the Oculus Rift coming out later this year. I highly recommend this TV as a monitor, and I am VERY picky and have been in the tech industry for 20+ years.
  10. It's heavy gauge floss for it's teeth.. typically used after a heathy brrrrrttttt.
  11. I've just upgraded specifically so I could enjoy DCS 2.0 to the fullest. I was a bit weary of the upgrade since there's always something newer and better around the corner, right? CPU clocks haven't gone up that much, and I figured GPU improvements have mostly been in new types of visual enhancements. MAN was I wrong! This new system makes DCS look totally different and absolutely breathtaking at 70+ FPS with everything turned all the way up. I just wanted to write this for anyone on the fence about upgrading as I was: totally worth it, execute. Upgrade: i7-2600k 16g RAM 2x- GTX 570 TO: 5960x Extreme (OC to 4.5) 16g DDR4, 2133 RAM 2x - GTX 980Ti, 6g VRAM each
  12. Captain James Kirk (not James T. Kirk) is in command of the new USS Zumwalt Destroyer. It's a new modern ship with a stealthy design, and the largest Destroyer we've ever built. It headed out for sea trials on Monday. http://www.foxnews.com/us/2015/12/08/largest-destroyer-built-for-navy-heads-out-to-sea/
  13. You should be able to take one out with an AGM-65G, but that's not the case in DCS. The solution I used in one mission was to create an explosion on the bunker just after mission start. I had to tweak the explosion to get the bunker down to a sliver of health. The 65G now does the job.
  14. On very rare occasion someone will do something so utterly extraordinary that it increases your perception of what is within the realm of human capability.. this is one of those events. The finesse and skill displayed in this work is obvious and inspirational and the level of detail and performance are greater than I would have thought possible. This is a staggering achievement. Bravo Zulu, ED!
  15. I created a mission to help train on tank busting. I can fly around the tanks without getting hit all day long now that I've practiced. The trick is to use rudder and also move across two axis at the same time. My mission talks you through it. It includes voice instruction. http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=72549
  16. With respect, my opinion on mods in beta from a previous post:
  17. My personal CDU/HUD prefs are setup this way before each flight: Change HUD: - IFCC switch to TEST > (UFC)Display Modes > -- TAPES to YES -- RDALT TAPE to YES -- VERT VEL to YES Change CDU to show Bullseye in HUD: - (UFC)FUNC > WP > -- (OSB)Anchor Point > HUD ON Disable auto waypoint switching: - (UFC)FUNC > FMP > -- (OSB)MSN from AUTO to MAN View Ground Speed on CDU for taxi: - (UFC)FUNC > STEER > -- (OSB)Change speed indication from IAS to GS I fly with my CDU in STEER mode switching sometimes to POS mode. I like to keep my eye on wind and temp as well as current and relative position.
  18. There's no good reason to retrim 3 axis when all you want to do is change heading. Turn off heading AP, make your heading change, then turn it back on and you'll hold that heading. A lot of people will argue with me about that, but those same people have probably never tried the method. Turning off heading AP will not destabilize the bird... but holding trim to simply change heading takes a lot more effort. To be clear though, if I have to change heading AND speed simultaneously I'll use trim. Try it.. you might be surprised. DISCLAIMER: I'm not going to argue this point.. I've done it in two other threads and it's exhausting. Try it or don't... but I hope you do and I hope you find value in a new and better procedure.
  19. Perhaps in the training mission he already has links for the other targets. I've noticed that giving the command 'Flight Rejoin Formation' clears all of their data links. Try giving this command before 'Engage, Datalink, Single Target' and see if it has the same results. EDIT: If you want to ease the process of working with wingmen, check out my VAC profile. Makes it much more enjoyable: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=49421
  20. Bucic, I've been curious about this as well. I posted a similar question to the DCS World section that didn't receive an ED response. The community consensus in that thread was that there is no standard. I hope that ED develops a standard procedure for manual distribution for us pub junkies. Pub revisions would be cool too.. eg: ED-2-KA50-6.4 (or ED tac Two tac KA Five Zero tac Six dot Four ). We could review in coming pub revisions online until they're rolled up into the next distribution (or print and add to the back of the binder.. if you're ate up like me). But now I'm just getting silly.
  21. ED made a request that kind of makes sense; don't install mods on the beta. This will ensure that we can reliably test then report our findings. Please consider the following, fellow DCSians: ED has given us a great opportunity with this openbeta to test and contribute. We should keep in mind that our number of reports should be equal to (pref greater than) our total number of complaints. Those of us who don't contribute really have no right to say 'but but.. it doesn't.. it isn't.. it can't.. it shouldn't..' Just sayin'... **Here's a well done post from SiThSpAwN outlining how we can all contribute: OPEN BETA - How to report a bug (FAQ & Guide)
  22. That there is no answer.. is actually a valid answer :) thanks much cichlid.
  23. Yes, I'm hoping that's the case, but I see inconsistencies. BS2 manual in install was older than the download on the ED site. Just trying to find out what their doc policy is so I'll be more apt to always find the latest ver.
  24. I've found that there are different versions of the aircraft manuals between the ED Downloads page, and those included in the installer. What is the proper location of the 'latest manual'? ED, I want to say that I really love your manuals. Coming from military aviation, the format of these tech pubs really takes me back. I've read them several times and will read them several more. I even play the manuals on text to speech in my office with some background ambient techno.. love it! THREAD BREVITY DISCLAIMER: Please, if you don't work for ED and don't know the answer, don't reply with your best guess. I can guess too.. I'm looking for empirical data here. Don't take offense, just keeping the thread lean.
  25. I'm not sure what you mean. This profile uses the Saitek SST software to bind the controller to the appropriate keyboard commands. The LUA files shouldn't need to be altered. There are a few commands which require you to set it up in game in the controller setup. They're color coded black as the diagram states. Did this answer your question?
