  1. Hummingbird, text lacks emotional context.. so allow me to preface; I say the following in the nature of friendly discourse, not argument. My bias.. or opinion.. is based upon the fact that the year the Typhoon went into service I was in the service. I was a pretty good jet mech (crossrated troubleshooter) so I did a lot of transient maintenance on birds of many services and countries where there were mysterious problems that caused people trouble finding a solution. This was mostly during Operation Desert Storm. Military Aviation, at the time, was the pinnacle of all advanced technology. In 1992 I saw things that would leave the average person speechless even today. Assuming that trend of innovation has continued, I'm confident that we'll learn of capabilities of the F-35 twenty years from now that will still seem wondrous to us. The question was asked; "typhoon vs f-35, who is win?".. I was conveying my educated opinion that, although on the surface these aircraft are nearly an even match, the superior technology of the F-35 will tip the scales significantly. I've worked on the F-16, C-130, and U-2.. so I have a lot of confidence in Lockheed Martin. BAE is a good company too.. I'd be anxious to see what kind of 5th gen aircraft they could build.
  2. Yes .. not bad. BAE is not a bad company (actually, a great company in my opinion, but BAE isn't the only company putting parts on that bird).. and the Typhoon is not a bad aircraft. They do not however, have the same experience and access to resources that Lockheed Martin and the F-35 has... on the topic of comparing the two birds... Apple IIe and a Surface Pro 3.
  3. At 5:45.. that F-15 is hacking! WTH kind of maneuver is that?
  4. Reflection in visor:
  5. C:\MSFS\> start MSFS.exe Not enough memory available to complete this operation... C:\MSFS\> start MSFS.exe Please wait... Please wait...
  6. I just can't stop wondering what black boxes are in that F-35 that could potentially and significantly tip the balance of this near even fight.. in a BVR or WVR. I imagine looking down and through the cockpit floor and seeing a Typhoon.. then locking onto it almost immediately and firing an advanced all-aspect sidewinder... then shrugging and heading off to the O-club. Despite it's admirable maneuverability, it seems that the Typhoon is several orders of magnitude behind the F-35 in technology. However we allow ourselves to paint a nice picture of the Typhoon, this is an Apple IIe against a Surface Pro 3. (Now watch.. someone is going to argue the merits of the Apple IIe against modern devices.. aren't people interesting?!) EDIT: It just occurred to me.. I was flying the EF2000 Typhoon flightsim in 1995 hahah!
  7. Therein lies the ironic humor. Though, I shouldn't take advantage by prodding him so. :music_whistling:
  8. While in in the Navy I had a lot of pilot friends let me take the stick. They every one of them said the same thing 'the hardest thing to learn about flying military aircraft is making turns without altering altitude' If you can intuitively make level turns and maintain the same bank/G, you can do precise turns every time. Watch your G-Meter and Flight Path Angle/TVV on your HUD. Practice 'slicing the pie' by making precise 45,90,180,270,360 degree turns in consistent bank/G. This will provide context and intuition necessary to make 18 degree turns. TTPs provide consistency. Here's another mission I created specifically for TTP practice: Live Fire Exercise
  9. Well you're young yet, son.
  10. So, you question the reliability of data from an aviation site, but Wikipedia is ok? Hmm.. I'll tell ya what's suspect here... :)
  11. Cracker - you don't want to annunciate when you train your speech recognition. You want to speak normally so it will 'train' up on how 'you' speak. If you own a good mic / have your mic set up well that helps. I have accents from all over the world being ex-military, and speak with my pipe clenched in my teeth and VAC never misses what I say. I use the Razor Blackshark headphones and MAN do they rock.. besides being like helo cans, they sound great. The mic is exceptional as well.
  12. It's called 'reference'. Point of fact: it lines the figures up nicely and the site elicits more repute than disparate estimates by flight sim enthusiasts. What do you want.. an official statement from the USAF? I typically trust empirical data over opinion. Based on 'available data' they say the fight is a 50/50. I say the superior technology (read: 'unavailable data') would tip that balance no less than 60/40 in favor of the F-35. This is opinion reinforced by reference.
  13. How many degrees do you turn your wheel to put your car in a a perfect 90degree turn? I couldn't tell you a numeric figure, but I do it perfectly every time from feel. I think that because the pilot can feel the Gs they can perform more precise turns than us. To compensate you can watch the G meter and base turns upon a consistent bank/G figure. It should take precisely the same amount of time to do a 360 with consistent Bank/G. You will gain intuition to 'slice the pie' evenly every time.
  14. http://www.aviatia.net/versus/eurofighter-vs-f35/ gives a 50-50 probability in that fight. I believe the superior sensors, 100% situational awareness via the exterior cameras and see through airframe, not to mention still classified aspects of the F35 would tip the balance. Also, as I stated before the 4200 rpm GAU on the F35 would trump the 1700 rpm of the BK-27. Yes, more led in the air makes a difference in the sky just like it does on the ground.
  15. Snoopy, is there only an accumulator for the brake system, or is there also a larger accumulator to give some level of sustained hydraulic pressure after the pumps are no longer powered, like some other birds? Someone stated earlier that the hydraulic pressure would drop 0 as soon as the engines shut down.
  16. Ice, I find AI wingmen to be very useful. If you practice with them and work out the quarks they're not bad. I use my practice mission to refine wing TTP. You can get it from user files: Live Fire Exercise - StrongHarmLFX
  17. Yeah doveman, it's probably your mic that's causing VAC not to recognize your words. I've never trained my SR and like I said, I can speak with my pipe in my teeth and it still recognizes every word. To set your mic up properly: Go into Control Panel > Sound > Mic Tab > Rclick your mic > Configure Speech Recognition.
  18. http://www.aviatia.net/versus/eurofighter-vs-f35/ 50-50 probability (based on declassified information) http://www.aviatia.net/versus/eurofighter-vs-f-22/ 9% margin to F-22 (based on declassified information)
  19. Well, you might be right. If the F-35 has handicaps imposed like the F-22 did against a Typhoon, I'm sure that every kid on the playground will feel good about themselves.. but if the gloves came off that Typhoon might find itself feeling a bit like 435 Iraqi MIGs.. a little 'down'. You think the GAU would loose because it 'takes time to spool up'? I guess it depends on how much grease is on the crank handle hehe
  20. I don't know about the Typhoon winning a gun fight. The BK-27 is 1700rpm and the GAU-22 is 4200rpm... not to mention the 100% situational awareness and "other" superior avionics. Aviatia gives the fight a 50-50 chance. Based on a number of factors. Operability and quality would tip the balance, and I'd put my money on Lockheed Martin.. they have more experience building for this envelope. Hell, with projects like the F-4, F-16, F-117, C-130, and the absolutely amazing U-2 (still nothing better after 58 years).. I'd bet on them against just about any manufacturer. As I said in my last post the Typhoon is a "Jaguar with a Fiat engine running on French biofuel" .. that's a serious identity crisis. Still, the Euro fighter is a 'nice' idea... but so was the Euro monetary note.
  21. Why, the news media clearly reports the 'truth' of the F-35.. the same media that believes 'Evil Defense Spending' brings down the quality of school lunches and beats elderly people with croquet mallets. In reality the F-35 would have to call for backup against the Typhoon.. they'd request an F-4 Phantom to take it out.. so they could go pick on someone their own size. Only the parts made by BAE would actually function, and that wouldn't be enough to save it. It's like putting a Fiat engine in a Jaguar and running it on French biofuel. It would look great.. but you wouldn't want to actually drive it.
  22. Crackerjack, try VAC. I use it with my pipe in my teeth and it always recognizes my commands. It also has a much better interface for creating profiles. You could literally do your entire startup routine, complete with keydown and pause timings, with a single voice command. Everyone I've spoken to that has used both products prefers VAC by a wide margin.

  24. Why thank you Eddie, I appreciate your taking such an interest in my personal development. You're a sensitive guy. I'll be speling write in no time. :)
  25. If ED ever makes a PFM/ASM of the AH-64D, I'll have to dig a slit trench in my office and buy a two year supply of beefaroni.. only to find next time I take a break that my wife has moved out and my dog is bonding with the neighbors.
