  1. I'm looking forward to the TrackEAR that will manipulate the inner ear so we can 'feel the bird'. (ETA 20 years)
  2. Good points Eddie, I didn't know that was SOP. One way I do often use mark points is the Zmark. I'll make my initial attack (which automatically makes a mark point labeled Z), then if I have trouble returning sensors to that area I'll switch to mark and select Z. In low altitude engagements (gun runs definitely) I almost always use my Zmark to keep SA. I'm going to rework my TTPs for an initial mark and see if it works for me.
  3. There are a number of things that can cause you to lose your SPI track. In my experience it's usually terrain masking or a lot of maneuvers enroute to that point. I've also noticed that if I don't allow my INS to align (fully) before turning the TGP on, things can get wacky. It is a matter that requires your troubleshooting and may be a procedural gap. Eddie, with all due respect to your great level of knowledge on DCS, I don't agree with the fact that a waypoint/markpoint should have to be set for every target. I rarely do that and I operate just fine. On a side note, I've found that sometimes when my SPI fades off point it's actually just my TGP view, so if I slave all to SPI again, everything comes right.
  4. You don't use key commands for the digital slew, just use the individual slew directions (not in axis view). For ABRIS OSD 1-5 I'm using the three throttle thumb switches. You can see 3 lines connecting the functions to the buttons. This profile works very well for me.. there are very few situations where I have to take my hands off throttle/stick. Took a long time to perfect it.
  5. If you've tried using F1 to return to cockpit view and it's not working, I'd check 4 things: 1. Are you joining as spectator? If you're flying a mission that has a selection of which bird you fly, if you don't click one first that means you're just a spectator 2. Open internet explorer and hit F1, this should open 'help'. If it doesn't your keyboard is malfunctioning 3. In DCS, go into your options>controls and make sure it wasn't changed to another key 4. Check to see if another app is 'hooking' that key for something else. TrackIR will hook keys so they're deactivated in other apps, for instance.
  6. I use an analog and a digital. Analog to slew quickly and digital to fine tune. Here's my profile: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=131418
  7. The link I gave you is a condensed version of the wiki. Glad you got your issue worked out.
  8. An alternative is to use custom snap views. I created one where I can look at a full view of the ABRIS and Shval simultaneously. Here's how, if you're interested: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=49168&p=817844
  9. It's simply the difference between 'Programmers' and 'Script Kiddies'. Evolving into object oriented languages is a good thing, just like evolving past having to manually allocate IRQs and DMAs is for hardware.. however, when programmers stop caring about the how and why of the libraries they're stitching together.. they become 'a head chef heating up frozen dinners'. Luckily we don't have to worry about that with ED. As a tech exec/mil aviation vet who's worked with them I can tell you that these are professionals not only in programming, but also in usability, aviation, and military structure. They do care about the details. This should be obvious to anyone who's watched DCS evolve over the last decade. The complexity of what they do is staggering. I assure you, you're in very good hands; and the upcoming leap in the evolution of DCS will produce silence from anyone who thinks otherwise.
  10. F-35 Unscathed by Hostile Fire in Green Flag Edit: After some reflection I imagined a debate forming here about the 'questionable honesty' of U.S. Military Officers and Aviation Week concerning the above article. I wanted to preemptively appeal to you to just... don't
  11. People have said good things about my profile. I can't say it would be perfect for you, but I'm a Business Intelligence Architect so I know about user interface and intuitive operation. I spent a lot of time analyzing and refining this one. Hope it saves you some time. You can download it from this post: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=59208
  12. Well done! Here's one I did in 2011. It's from a vid rather than ingame sounds. It's only the gun firing, no other aircraft sounds or rounds detonating. http://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/22761/
  13. F-35 is only going out to limited allies.. and middle eastern countries (other than Israel of course) aren't among them. Again, I think the subject is being complicated far too much. The equation is not complex. I'm sure there was debate over the performance deltas between the F-15 and the MIG before Operation Desert Storm.. that debate died an abrupt and final death... as will this one if the Typhoon ever has to face the F-22 or the F-35. It's simply a different generation of bird. I loved my '68 Camaro SS.. but my 2014 Camaro 2SS would spank it every time. It's not just the engine.. it's the enormous gap in technology.
  14. It's best to use the manual in the install location as they update it periodically.
  15. I raise and lower my seat with the cockpit switch.
  16. And a pitbull could kill a lion because the pitbull has a greater bite pressure?.. this thread is silly. Strawman arguments are fun, but there's a point in which you have to put logic before predilection. It's good that you like the Typhoon, but why is it necessary to reach so adamantly for fictitious reasons why it could destroy an allied aircraft that's of far superior technology? Let me relieve you of your burden; the Typhoon doesn't need to beat the F-35 for you to call it your favorite aircraft.. feel comfortable in your preference.
  17. Shhh!! Surprise spoiler! :) Thank you. I did put it in my overview video, but not in the briefing. I was hoping it would be an adrenalin rush for the people who don't watch the vid. I love watching the migs and 15s fight.. and the migs have got me a few times. I usually go practice inflight refueling with the 15s on my wing afterwards. Unscheduled training evolutions are common in the US Military. It's easy to execute what was just learned in the classroom.. so it's not uncommon to see related but undiscussed events that test practical comprehension and quick thinking.
  18. Version Update 1.1 The hardened bunker at NAV point Towel was .. too hardened for the AGM-65G. After the recent DCS update that altered building penetration and hitpoints, I had to change the type of building used for primary target. http://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/1222073/
  19. My squadron had a belly landing in the Azores in the 90s. It does serious damage (you could see the runway through the fuselage) that requires depot level service every time. I wonder why the pilot would do a successful belly landing.. THEN eject.. I wish someone would have recorded that. It would make a great Monty Python clip.
  20. This makes sense.. since the carrier has pretty much unlimited electrical energy. The steam cat is strong enough though, I can attest to that. The first time I went off the cat was in a C-2A Greyhound. The load master was a good friend of mine and wanted to mess with me. He told the cat officer we had a full heavy load, so they dialed the power up, but it was actually just me and him in the back. That cat threw us so hard it knocked me out and made me piss my flight suit. I woke up and tried to hide it, but the load master laughed and said it wasn't a big deal, it happens to a lot of people on their first shot.. even if it's dialed low. I later did hundreds more shots in various aircraft, and loved every one of them. The Navy ruined all amusement parks for me.
  21. Agreed! Imagine what BAE or LMC could do with proper funding and no interference.
