I can confirm that auto-lock is based on silhouette recognition. It's similar to how a submarine uses a sonar signature database to match and identify threats. If light conditions aren't correct for non-IR, or the object is partially masked, auto-lock may not work until range is closed. There have been bugs in the product before where certain vehicle types wouldn't lock at all, but they've all been fixed to my knowledge. Stability of the platform and angle of missile head to target (check head aspect reference cross) can affect range as well. Here's a previous post on the subject:

Live Fire Exercise - A-10C/KA-50
StrongHarm replied to StrongHarm's topic in User Created Missions General
Hey Xoxen, the mission is 14Mb, so it could have been an upload speed issue from the connection that was serving it up. Have everyone download the mission and start it in SP first. This should eliminate the problem. Sorry about the size, I added a lot of radio/sound clips. Thanks for the kind words. I'm glad others are enjoying it as much as I am. -
Care to share?

Here's an analysis and reference for the HOTAS. Go to the original post for editable files.
-
Also your AP might fight hard maneuvers enough to cause collision. I like to use the AP Emerg. Off before really stressing the bird. I have my WH HOTAS CMS set to PUSH = AP EMERG. OFF FWD = HEADING AP LEFT = PITCH AP RIGHT = ROLL AP BACK = ALT AP This binding is convenient for heading AP as well. I prefer switching heading AP on and off when changing heading instead of messing with all trim aspects just to change flight direction.

Try Tank Busting 101. It's my GAU instruction mission.. and it has some fun stuff mixed in. I've talked to a few people that say they fly it more than any other mission.. which is pretty damned flattering really.. I personally don't think it's quite that good heheh. http://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/1222074/ I've just launched a Live Fire Exercise mission as well. It's good for overall procedural analysis and getting it right before things get hairy. http://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/1222073/ Vid: If you're referring to the Gimbal error on TGP, I clear it by doing an aileron roll. There are other methods, but I find this to be the quickest. Also, if you want to easily set your sensors to your last target try using your Z Mark. I find this convenient especially when I eyeball a target and want to keep headsup in a high threat area. Just spray a little 30mm at the target (or other ordinance) and whatever your last target point was will automatically become a Z Mark. You can then select the Z Mark, quickly setting your sensors while maintaining good situational awareness. The added benefit of doing an initial attack to set Z Mark is that it usually stops moving vehicles making them fish in a barrel. Manual P.466 (it's critical to RTFM my friend) Weapon Event: Each time a weapon is released, a Z markpoint is created. Each subsequent weapon release replaces the last Z markpoint. Mark Point: Once you have created one or more markpoints, you must set the AAP STEER PT dial to the MARK position in order to select and cycle through the markpoints you’ve created. With MARK selected on the STEER PT dial, you may use the ± Rocker Switch on the CDU to select the desired markpoint. If you have HUD set as SOI and the AAP set up to MARK, you may also use DMS Up and Down to cycle through markpoints. When cycling through markpoints in such a manner, the selected markpoint becomes the steerpoint and SPI by default.

Live Fire Exercise - A-10C/KA-50
StrongHarm replied to StrongHarm's topic in User Created Missions General
Thanks Beach, hope you enjoy! Yeah, I dabbled in building missions for ARMA3, but I much prefer the DCS community. The CAS mission I did for A3 was a mirror of the one I did for DCS. It's a submission of a greater battle that's part of a campaign. I'll be launching it sometime within the next month I think. -

Has anyone ran this on their server yet? Were there any problems or deficiencies? -
I launched another training mission you can use for Guns practice: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=137532

Live Fire Exercise - A-10C/KA-50
StrongHarm replied to StrongHarm's topic in User Created Missions General
Thanks all, glad you're enjoying it as much as I am. If my voice acting gets on your nerves after a few playthroughs, just turn the UHF channel.. all coms are through the radio instead of play sound. (other than the movie clips) -
Live Fire Exercise - A-10C/KA-50
StrongHarm replied to StrongHarm's topic in User Created Missions General
Thanks Saber, it means a lot coming from you. I wasn't sure if others would like the scenario as much as I do. My goal was to create a live fire exercise where the range was close and I could focus on procedural analysis. Then I decided it would be good for KA50 as well, and that it needed some dynamic aspects and realism.. next thing I knew I was creating something for the community. When Nellis comes out I'll probably redo it there and retire this one. Tell me if there's anything you think I should add or omit. -

Most welcome. Tell me if you find bugs or have any enhancement suggestions. -

Could anyone confirm if this is possible? I wonder if I should put in an enhancement request.

Out of which radio is that sound coming?
StrongHarm replied to Joghurt's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
I personally set the volumes differently for each radio. I'm working on a LFX mission right now that has voice acting from multiple radio sources, and that method came in handy during testing. I'd really like to see ED put radio coms through the Communications Channel in windows, then all other sounds through the Default Channel. I put an enhancement request in long ago for that.. maybe they'll do it with 2.0. -
There's my problem Snoopy, and it was as simple as I feared; HUD VV tape shows within 1000fpm level of granularity, not the full range of the VVI. THANK YOU.. yet again

From a previous post:

Obviously, Mr. Sensitivity... but why remind virtual pilots they're 'virtual'?.. that's like: Here kid.. here's a big jar of candy.. Keep in mind it's going to rot the hell out of your teeth.. enjoy! <kid walks away staring at jar with a frown> I mean.. really.. what's the purpose? :) In your defense, you do grace the forums with your vastly superior knowledge, so there is some balance. <kid glances back at the Dentists office, still perplexed>
-
Could someone test it and see if you get the same results please? See below to activate. Numeric and scale of VV HUD tape seems to be higher than indication on analog VVI.
-
More specifically: - IFFCC menu - Go into Display Modes - Make Ver Vel YES instead of NO It's the tape on the right side of the HUD. I would expect it to be the same value as the analog VVI, but it's not. If it's a bug it's not significant of course, but if it's not a bug I want to close the gap in my understanding. Anyone know?
-
I worked on aircraft engines a bit in the Navy but it was cross training, not my primary area of expertise. Although I have limited knowledge on the matter (where's an AD or 2A6X1 when you need them) I do have a few theories about why ED may have modeled engine stall under the circumstance (if it's not a bug). 1. Turbofan shaft lost momentum and angle of attack prevented sufficient air into the combustion section to maintain mix. 2. If speed was high enough and angle of attack allowed a high flow of air through the inlet, a combination of compression section overpressure and low shaft RPM caused flame out. I'm really grasping at straws.. hopefully there's an expert on hand that will have concrete information that's better than my wild theories. Snoooooopy?! Put on your crewchief cape and swoop in to save our brains! Check out this wonderfully horrible video I found about turbo fan engines!
-
I highly recommend Gerry Abbot's videos which are linked in the above post. Besides being very technically sound and informative.. dude's got a cool accent heheh
-
Not the VVI, the vertical tape type scale you can turn on in the IFFCC. Taylor, I think you're talking about the TVV.
-
Cool vids Snoopy! PFunk.. you making that video? I'll probably put one together if I can pull myself out of the editor. I've been working on a new live fire exercise mission for a few weeks. It has voice overs, target count/BDA, and even an STO flying your wing. It's A-10C/KA-50 and I think it might be epic.
