Is the vertical velocity indication on the HUD incorrect? The one you turn on in the IFFCC Display Options.. It looks like it's doubling the value of the analog gauge... or am I missing something?

Stop, take a deep breath, and RTFM! The A-10C manual may seem like dry reading at first, but once you have the self discipline to sit and read it you'll find it's chocked full of tasty technical and tactical goodness. The fact is, you have two options: RTFM - 80% within 30 days - Spend a couple of days to read the manual. You don't have to memorize it. You should just scan it so you'll have the info in your head to connect the dots.. and it will be a much more useful reference in the future. Click Learn/Vids/Ask People - 60% within 180 days - Click learning is possible in a lot of games and sims these days.. this is not one of them. There are extremely useful aspects of the aircraft sensors and capabilities that people don't generally discuss. You may never find that critical component, that for you, makes you effective in every sortie you fly. I've read the manual several times and will probably do it again.. it's really good. I'm confident that it's the reason why my sorties contain no hesitation.. only devastation. This has been a public service announcement by the RTFM Society of Aviation Competence. No chickens were harmed in the making of this add.

Well.. it has 8 cylinders.. 4 more than they allow you in Europe :) Again, the parallels, the Hawg is an ugly monstrosity as well. We'd all park one of those in our driveway!

Is it hooked by another app like TrackIR or Fraps?

My wife bought me a Camaro 2SS for Christmas. I wanted to recommend it to you aviation enthusiasts because it seems that the designers had a fighter plane in mind when they drafted it up. First on the list is the color HUD. It contains: . Speedometer . Tachometer . G meter, left and right . Optimal Shift Zone Indicator . Gear Indicator . Compass . Temperature . Navigation Prompts . Song information . Traction Control Prompts Next is the Driver Information Center just under the HUD: . Digital Speedometer . Trip 1/2 . Fuel Range . Average Fuel Economy . Average Vehicle Speed . Turn-by-Turn Direction Indicator . Unit Selection . Tire Pressure . Remaining Oil Life . Coolant Temperature . Battery Voltage . Speed Warning . Lap Timer . Coolant Temperature . Battery Voltage . Oil Temperature . Oil Pressure . Acceleration There's an analog gauge bank just in front of the shift that shows the typical engine indicators. Then there's the Entertainment and Navigation Display, which is a lot like a MFCD.. I'm not even going to list all it contains, but some highlights are: . Gasoline - lists lowest prices by distance . Movies - individual updated movie listings . Weather, current/3hr/6hr, 5day, Advisories, Ski info . Zoomable moving map with waypoint capability and orientation settings.. very much like the TAD The headrest is reminiscent of those on ejection seats.. and the list goes on, but I won't bore you. The acceleration, suspension, computer driven racing aids, etc. all make this vehicle a beast and fun as hell to drive. It takes corners like an F-16. It's my own personal fighter jet without wings.. drive one if you're considering a new car. It's Sierra Hotel.

Howdy, Hope I didn't miss a post that already answered this question. Has anyone had any success triggering a SADL message in the editor? I'd rather send a SADL message than a "MESSAGE TO" action that brings up the overlay window, but I can't seem to find any documentation on it. Thanks! StrongHarm

Put your Gs where your mouth is! Download the mission and make us a video PFunk! :)

Taking those live tanks out is very doable. The real value of this training mission is trying different tactics under predictable and reproducible circumstances. For me, avoiding fire SOP is: - Roll in at no further than 1.5nm (decrease their time to set up a shot) - Have enough altitude and drain enough speed to roll in with lots of slant and little energy.. throttles back - After the run make your egress with lots of travel on the horizontal and vertical (45 deg) and do some light work with the rudders while watching the tracers Using this method I can take out all groups with a single load of 30mm without getting hit once. Sometimes I'll orbit the field under 1k and just practice avoiding fire. I like the saying 'train now or bleed later'.. it's always served me well.

Good vid. After those first two groups of safe T80s, you'll have two groups of tanks that start shooting back. If you run in on them shallow they'll tear you up. The .7nm threshold concerns penetration of rounds on heavy armor. If you're further than that you have much less chance of penetration. Another aspect of good penetration is a stable platform for the gun. You want a very small spread. You can get this by letting PAC stabilize before firing. That was some skillful shooting. I particularly liked the two tank kill on the single run at the end. One thing I started doing that decreased my time to stable acquisition was to do a complete aileron role onto the target. I then started trying to take out tanks with very minimal bursts. Fun stuff!

I created a tutorial/training mission centered on gunning tanks. There are voice overs and procedural notes to help you refine your methods. After flying it several times I was able to go from being a lawn dart that had to reload three times, to killing all tanks with a single load of rounds with very little sweat. I think it's fun as well as instructive. Hope you enjoy. Tank Busting 101 Excerpt:

Sounds are too low in A-10C, what's wrong with my computer?
StrongHarm replied to Ramstein's topic in Bugs and Problems
I agree that this would be sweet. I wrote this enhancement up during beta. I hope they take the time to do it one day. I suspect it wouldn't be difficult to achieve considering the windows audio framework. -
Try opening your cockpit door. If they perform the action with the door open, that means it's probably a radio issue. If they don't perform the action with the door open, that probably means it's a resource issue and you have to add the capability to your FARP or Airport. Civilian airports won't rearm your bird by default. Did you change your spew9 selector knob from VHF to Ground Crew Intercom? It's on your left panel just aft of your Engine Start-up Panel.

I've always wanted to create a home cockpit. I flew the ball sims when I was in the Navy and wanted to try to recreate that as closely as possible. HOWEVER, after I received my Oculus Rift DK2, I reflected on the fact that I'm glad I didn't put all the time and money into a cockpit. Although the Oculus Rift isn't where it needs to be in terms of resolution, they're quickly getting there. My experience with the dev kit was breathtaking. The scale of the aircraft and cockpit are immersive and put you INSIDE the pit. The depth and spacial awareness are so good that you can determine your altitude without looking at the altimeter. It really is that good. It can't be fully conveyed with words. So, I don't want to discourage your pit project, but I did want to relay my personal relief that I didn't start my project before seeing VR.

That post includes instructions as well as reference cards. Read further into the post for fine tuning and answers to most questions.

People seem to like this x52 profile I built a few years ago. Not sure if it's still working as good as it once did. I've since purchased a Warthog HOTAS, but it will be a foundation for a good profile if nothing else.

If I haven't flown the KA-50 for a while I like reacquaint myself by doing funnel maneuvers around random objects. Orbit different objects while keeping your nose pointed at the object. Alter your speed, altitude, and distance from the object. You'll typically have to keep all flight surfaces in constant movement to maintain the funnel. Also, try it with and without pitch and role AP, but heading AP should always be off. I find this fine tunes my cyclic/collective coordination, and calibrates my brain to the bird pretty quickly.

Eddie, you are asserting that the TGP AA should be dismissed all together, and it's part of the aircraft sensors by... accident? Shut me down rudely, by all means but if you're going to, please help me understand where I'm in error. I was providing how I personally and successfully find value in the sensor, but you seem to be stating that there's a practical reason why I'm wasting my time with it. Be sure to read my previous post thoroughly so you understand it.. then go ahead and school me brother. I'm not suggesting an argument, on the contrary I humbly stand ready to learn from you.

That's actually a big asset Fakum. If you have different levels of command hierarchy, you can define the button press time and pause before next command time for each command in the string. It's the same thing only organized with more flexibility.

Agreed. If you spot air threats it's time to head for safety and call for air superiority to clear the area. Question is this; you're doing CSAR or ECAS, all CAP are otherwise tasked, and the area is out of the AEW pocket (not as unlikely as it may sound). You're ingressing blind of assets, but you have no time to waste.. what do you do: 1. Sweep the area for air and ground threats with your eyeballs 2. Use your sensors to look for threats (any available.. for what they're worth.. ) I would postulate that since WVR means you're already in trouble, why not use any assets available to spot them before WVR so you can avoid them? The other scenario is helos. They can be a real bitch to pick out of the terrain beyond about 5 cliks. I understand Hawg drivers went RWT hunting during Desert Storm.. they love it! Shame a lot of those stories are probably still classified. Hope we get to hear them one day. I agree that the TGP AA is a limited sensor that won't be used every flight.. but I also think everyone should become familiar enough to use it to full effect if the need arises. What I'm trying to say is; in my humble opinion, TGP AA shouldn't be dismissed as non-functional.

Export Shkval/ABRIS to Android tablet
StrongHarm replied to kobalt_'s topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
Here's how I did it using remote desktop(teamviewer) and magnifier. This is with the Surface, but I imagine you could do it with any device. For some reason a moderator moved it into the obscurity of 'Reality/PC Hardware'. Not sure who I pissed off or why... the post is specific to DCS:BS and similar to any number of posts that were never moved from the main forum. http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=133891 -
No, it wouldn't be practical to use AA TGP to for an air contact that's already in visual. It's used to find targets optically for which you don't already have a visual. The HUD diamond would be of little use... you want to be looking at the Situational Awareness Cue (white dot on TGP). This is essentially your 'top down radar' for a single target. It will show you the direction of the target aircraft to help you maintain situational awareness. It will also serve as a horizontal reference of relative targeting head direction during acquisition. Your vertical reference is simply the horizon. You should have a good standoff distance from the probable target, and use the TGP AA to spot what the naked eye couldn't possible track. So basically, if the target is close enough to spot with the naked eye, you should be heads up, but if you can't find it due to separation, you should be heads down in the TGP AA. So it's value is: 1. Pick out distant target that your eye wouldn't be able to find 2. Lock Air Target to auto-slew Sidewinder seeker head 3. Maintain situational awareness of target direction through TGP SA Cue That's pretty much it. See my previous post above for method.
-
AA Mode of the TGP is very useful. As a matter of fact, if I have a vehicle ground target that's in the bush or I'm having a hard time spotting it, I'll sometimes switch to AA mode and let it put a cross on target for me. As IRL it contains an algorithm that allows the TGP to optically filter contacts (places a cross on objects that have unnatural features that deviate from terrain). As for it's intended use; if you can get a quick TGP lock on an air threat then slave your Sidewinder head to it and rifle, that can be a huge asset in allowing you to react quicker than the threat. Those seconds usually count. I would go as far as to say that if you're engaging in AA operations without TGP AA, you're introducing unnecessary risk to your mission. It can find an aircraft a lot faster than the MK1 Eyeball.. and target fixation (staring at a limited area for a long time) will distract a pilot from possible threats and dangerously narrow your situational awareness. A few tips: Get a healthy standoff distance from the target This allows you to have a much more stable seeker head It also allows you to widen the field of view to let the software do it's work [*]I like to quickly mark the area of probable threat using TAD, then get down in the terrain and gain some distance, then slave TGP to mark before I unmask to start the search [*]If you have to make more than one pass, slave to Z Mark so you can find it again quickly.. the seeker head in AA doesn't hold lock on aircraft as well as AG does a ground point [*]If you're under the target and put sky behind it, the seeker head will find the target much faster Here are a few vids on the subject: Take a look at the A-10C Manual pg. 340. Here's an excerpt for anyone who refuses to open the manual:

Thanks Johnv2. That sounds like a decent solution.

Hi, I'm hoping I'm not missing something obvious here. I'm trying to do something that I can't find documented on the site or in the manual. I want to set an A-10C as a 'Client' but have it act as an AI if a client doesn't claim it. So, to elaborate; Any hawg sitting on the airfield can be an AI or a Client If a JTAC interacts with that a bird on the pad for tasking (kind of like 'Uncontrolled'), it's no longer available as a 'Client'.. Is this functionality just not available within the sim?
