Awesome quote! They should put that on the box!

Light on the secret sauce.. ED won't answer a lot of questions about what subsystems are missing from the public version. They often delete threads that go too deeply into the subject, probably due to DOD agreements. My personal opinion is that they must have stretched the NDA as far as it would go to retain as many subsystems as they did. Matt Wagner used to be an analyst for the CIA, so you can be sure he went by the book.. creatively.. In the hundreds of times I've flown this sim, I don't think there's been one instance where I haven't briefly considered how lucky I am to be flying it. It's pretty damned good. Here's a quote from a previous post by Wags on subsystems: Bottom line is that although the media tries to portray the U.S. military as substandard, there's a lot we don't know about that makes it amazingly effective. I saw stuff in 1990 when I was in the military that would surprise you today. Of course there are subsystems missing from the sim.. but that's probably a healthy thing. I'd guess A-10C is about 90% accurate, but of course, that's just speculation. This estimate excludes ordinance lethality, which is an entirely different subject of discussion that would lengthen an already lengthy post.

I've come to the harsh realization that I am indeed ate up with the A-10C manual.. Recently I started activating the Microsoft Narrator to read the DCS A-10C manual to me.. all day long.. every day. It's just so satisfying to have those Hawg tech facts floating through my home office as ambient audio.. If lovin' you makes me crazy, A-10C.. I don't wanna be sane..

I achieved a loop for support trucks and personnel triggered by client landing or taking off from FARP. I ended up using waypoint HOLD with a trigger area and stop conditions on the hold. It works like a charm. You'll see it in my upcoming mission Battle for Patara Valley.. which I've been working on for over two years. Well.. upcoming if I don't add anything else to it. As it stands there are over 200 triggers, 4 side missions, and over 800 vehicles over the span of the battlefield... God help me if I think of something more to add to it...

I didn't intend for my post to be a commercial.. I told you about VAC, Fakum, to prevent you from creating profiles in VoiceAttack and having to redo them in VAC later (as so many others have) when you find out it's a much more flexible product. I design BI interfaces in my day job, so I'm something of an expert on the subject and I like to help people out. Either way, any voice capability is a real asset in DCS so I'm glad you found it. Luck to you.

I think if there's artistic license taken with say.. a 30mm HEI round not killing a solder who has only 20ft separation.. I think panels being open will be a minor artistic deviation :) Then again, I don't know.. it's kind of heartless to make those digital line pukes pull out their speed wrenches whenever we're on the pad.. just so our birds will look cool.. HEY, when random failures are turned off does that mean there's virtual safety wire securing every single fastener in the bird?! Sucks to be them!
-
OK thanks Snoopy. I agree. It's such a great feature of A-10C that anytime the engines aren't running those panels should open up. It would be neat to see an aircrew too. I created some missions in ARMA3 that have maintenance personnel come out to your aircraft when it's being serviced and the feedback on the feature was huge. Hope they'll have the engine and graphics to cover it in DCSW2. Can you imagine how much immersion would come from having a line crew walk up to a random panel to turn a wrench.. push missile carts and pull fuel hoses? I have to say again though.. since I'm starting to sound like an unappreciative end-user... the panels were a great idea.
-
I noticed after landing that when my wingman extended his boarding ladder, all of the panels open up.. the ones that are typically open during repairs. I tried extending my boarding ladder, but the panels remained closed. Is this a feature that only shows on AI birds or do player aircraft do it as well and I'm just missing something?

Again, if you're interested, Voice Attack is just a poorly executed rip off of Voice Activated Commands. VAC is much easier to use and integrates more seamlessly to the speech recognition libraries. I can even talk with my pipe in my teeth and it never misses a command. The profile builder allows an unlimited amount of inputs and outputs per command, and is much more organized.. so you could literally say 'Start Up' and have it perform your entire start up, with appropriate pauses between commands. I have a really old A-10 profile for VAC that I need to update, but my KA-50 profile is complete. Here's what it looks like:

We'll circle back to this post after CV1 launch. You might be right.

I think DK2 is meant to give minimum acceptable functionality to allow developers to integrate the SDK into their software. I have two predictions of what we'll see in the production Rift: 1. We'll see a display that's better than 4k, or at least a modified version that optimizes for VR 2. We'll see software and or/hardware from NVidia that will enhance Rift, produced in cooperation with Oculus.

Some good answers here. Thought I'd add that the most important aspect of getting the mav on target is giving it a stable platform as explained in this previous post. Below that I'll add my HOTAS ref card, it's a little more handy than the 8 pages in the manual. Editable spreadsheet available in original post:

I think my questions got buried in the thread. Anyone know answers?
-
No, VoiceAttack is a different app. It's a less capable rip-off of DWVAC. There actually seems to be a lot of people using it. They had probably never seen VAC and thought that VoiceAttack was the only product of it's kind.
-
I'll second Voice Activated Commands (VAC). It's inexpensive and very well supported. I can talk with my pipe in my teeth and it still recognizes my commands. Awesome app. You can get my prepared VAC profile, with command reference sheet, here. I only use it for DataLink and interaction with wingmen/tower, but that's over 200 voice commands. You can very easily add your own commands simply by typing what you want to say, then the key that should activate when you say it. No training or any other action necessary. The command builder is the best reason to use VAC.. it's a no brainer. I spent like $15 and have it installed on two systems with several extensive profiles for different sims and games. I've also started using it for web browsing and application execution. Flying without VAC would be like flying without TrackIR. http://www.dwvac.com

If you haven't already read the manual, and want to be absolutely sure you don't have another failed attempt, I'd highly recommend going through the manual thoroughly. Most of the people I've met who gave up on the Warthog simply weren't willing to surrender to the manual. Once you have the self discipline to get through the first 50 pages, it's actually an enjoyable read. If you want a training mission to hone your gun skills, check out my tutorial mission Tank Busting 101. It's improved my skill immeasurably. It's a couple of years old, but I still use it every once in a while to stay sharp.

Sure thing. Hope you master the Blackshark and enjoy it as much as I do.. it may have legacy systems.. but it's a beast! -
How-to: Add waypoints on the ABRIS

No, take another look at my last post, it outlines how to add NAV TGT Points in flight in detail. I added manual excerpts and relevant page numbers. Reading the manual will allow you to fully experience the KA-50. :book:  :smartass::pilotfly: OR :joystick:  :joystick:  :joystick: :cry_2: -
How-to: Add waypoints on the ABRIS
StrongHarm replied to Gargoyle1's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
The markers you see on the ABRIS are probably NAV TGT Points with descriptions. You can add these in the Editor by selecting a KA-50, then the tab in the helo properties that has a square in it. Click on the map to place a NAV TGT Point, then add a description to it. You'll see this point on your ABRIS, and you'll also be able to access it with your PVI and autopilot to it. The best aspect of NAV TGT Points is that if you have one selected on your PVI and you uncage your Shkval, it will autoslew to that NAV TGT Point. You can also add NAV TGT Points inflight as detailed in the manual, and in the excerpt below. KA-50 Manual 10-18, p.364 Ingress to a Target Point Using Route Mode 10 target points (TP) can be stored in the PVI-800 navigation system. Each TP coordinate is loaded into the navigation computer from the Mission Editor or manually while in flight. While in flight, the Route mode can be used to navigate from any WP to any selected TP by the shortest distance. This can be done with heading stabilization in DH or DT sub-modes. In addition to an "ОТ" (TP) symbol on the HUD, the target‟s bearing and the distance are also displayed if the target is less than 100 km away. Ingress procedure: Disengage ROUTE mode by setting the "МАРШРУТ-СНИЖЕНИЕ" (ROUTE - DESCENT) switch on the collective to the neutral position. This will cause the "МАРШРУТЗК/ МАРШРУТЛЗП" (ROUTE DH / ROUTE DT) light to go off. Press the "ППМ" (WP) push-light on the Navigation Control panel and its light will go off, as well as the WP number indication on the display. Press the "ОТ" (TP) push-light and its light will illuminate. From the Navigation Control panel keypad, press the button with the TP number that appears on the display. Navigation data for automatic flight to the TP from the helicopter‟ current position is processed and indicated on the HSI, Navigation Control panel, and HUD. Engage ROUTE mode by setting the "МАРШРУТ-СНИЖЕНИЕ" (ROUTE – DESCENT) switch on the collective to the ROUTE position. The helicopter will then initiate an automatic turn towards the TP. When approaching a TP, the "КОНЕЦМАРШРУТА" (Last waypoint; End of route) light illuminates. 2 km after passing over a TP, the ROUTE Mode will disengage, the "КОНЕЦМАРШРУТА" (Last waypoint; End KA-50 Manual 11-5, p.393 Designate Target Points The Ka-50 navigation-targeting system can store up to 10 Target Points (TP), which can be actual targets or ingress points. Setting a TP can be done in two ways: Target Point fly-over. In this scenario, the TP is the ground coordinate that the helicopter was flying over when the TP was created. Shkval I-251 Designation. Using the Shkval system and the laser rangefinder, a ground location can be designated and set as a TP. This is done by determining range and bearing between designation point and ownship. Fly-Over Target Point Designation 1. Set the Mode selector dial on the Navigation Control panel to the "ВВОД" (Enter) position. 2. Set "И-251В– ПРОЛ" (INU fix-taking method) switch to the "ПРОЛ" (Over-fly) position. 3. Press "ОТ" (Target point) push-light. 4. Select the TP number you wish to assign from the key pad (1…0). 5. Once above the target, press the "ЦУ" (Designate target) button on the cyclic and the helicopter‟ coordinates will be appear on the Navigation Control panel display. The "ОТ" (Target point) symbol will be displayed on the HUD. 6. Press the "ВВОД" (Enter) button on the Navigation Control panel a second time and the fly-over coordinates will be entered as a TP in the navigation system. The "ОТ" (Target point) symbol on the HUD will go out. 7. After creating the TP, set the Mode selector dial on the Navigation Control panel to the "РАБ" (Work) position. Shkval Target Point Designation 1. Ensure that the "ИЗЛ-ОТКЛ" (Laser standby ON/OFF) switch on the Targeting Mode Controls panel is set to the "ИЗЛ" (Laser standby ON) position. 2. Set the Mode selector dial on the Navigation Control panel to the "ВВОД" (Enter) position. 3. Set the "И-251В– ПРОЛ" (INU fix-taking method) switch to the "И-251В" (I-251V Shkval) position. 4. Press the "ОТ" (Target point) push-light button. 5. Select the TP number you wish to assign from the key pad (1-10). 6. Press the "ЦУ" (Uncage Shkval) button on the cyclic. 7. Use the sensor slew hat to align the HUD cursor with target point area, and then locate it on the Shkval display. 8. Place the Shkval target box over the target point area, adjust the gate size and press the "АВТ ЗАХВ" (Automatic target lock) button on the collective. The range to target area will now be displayed on the TVM screen. 9. Press the "ЦУ" (Designate target) button on the cyclic a second time and the target‟s coordinates will appear on the Navigation Control panel display. The "ОТ" (Target point) symbol will display on the HUD. 10. Press the "ВВОД" (Enter) button on the Navigation Control panel again and the derived coordinates will be entered as the TP coordinates in the navigation system. The "ОТ" (Target point) symbol on the HUD will go out. 11. After creating this new TP, set the Mode selector dial on the Navigation Control panel to the "РАБ" (Work) position. On the Targeting Mode Controls panel, press the "СБРОС" (Targeting mode reset) button. -
How-to: Add waypoints on the ABRIS
StrongHarm replied to Gargoyle1's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
Ahh ok. In that case you might just give them FROM/TO MGRS Coords.. while viewing F10 as a reference. Up to them whether they plot it in ABRIS at that point. I personally don't think using F10 like a map is unrealistic. When you see real time enemy positions on it.. that might be a different story heheh. Have fun! -
How-to: Add waypoints on the ABRIS
StrongHarm replied to Gargoyle1's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
No, the only way to comm points with wingman is Datalink (dolly). You can send the wingman an Ingress Point and multiple Target Points. If you want a quick easy way to interact with Datalink and wingmen, try my Voice Activated Commands (VAC) profile. I just have to say the following: 1. Designate target mover 2. Select target mover 1 3. Send to wingman two 4. Wingman two, engage datalink multiple targets The alternative is .. I don't know how many button pushes. http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=49421 -
Questions: 1. Someone had mentioned that using zoom allows them to interact with gauges and HUD. Is anyone here using DK2 for every flight? You never revert to monitor? 2. Does anyone know of a post that outlines advanced methods of optimizing DCS with DK2 (beyond the basics of settings to increase FPS, etc.) Opinion: -DK2- I just received my DK2 and I'm very pleased with how it works in Elite Dangerous and Alien Isolation. During my research before purchase I noticed one word repeatedly used to describe the Oculus Rift experience; indescribable. I didn't understand this until trying it myself. There really is no way to describe it, there's no context. It really is that awesome. I spent a lot of time screaming wow when first trying it. -DCS- The amazing thing is the depth and scale you perceive while in DCS. When you look down from the aircraft, you can intuitively discern your altitude and anticipate a sense of the Gs. Until I got used to the experience I was dizzy as my inner ear was trying to compensate for abrupt movement.. it's really that realistic. Concerning the graphics in the cockpit though, the fine lines in instruments in DCS aren't rendered properly. I think this will be remedied in DCSW2 as fine lines and details obviously work well in Alien Isolation. DCS does implement DK2 better than any other software I've seen yet though. The 'auto detect oculus' feature makes setup a breeze, and the terrain and depth perception looks great. I think ED is ahead of the cut in all areas but the cockpit rendering, and that's probably due to the age of the engine. I feel sorry for people who spent time and money on home cockpits, because oculus really puts you IN the cockpit.
