  1. I think people aren't reading my original post properly. I did not complain about the HUD not being readable when flying into the sun, that's to be expected. I am saying that it's really hard to read it when you are in on top of a thick overcast cloud layer or in the actual top part of the layer it becomes really difficult to see the HUD. Try it, setup a layer of clouds from 10 to 20,000 ft with the density maxed out so that it becomes overcast. Time of day: 12:00. Have a flight through the cloud and fly on top of it (fly level, not climbing) and tell me if you can actually read the HUD.
  2. Well guys, I went through Thud's VR guide and also that Youtube Optimisation video. I am pleased to say that the (sideways) ghosting is significantly better now! The main bit that fixed it was enabling reprojection in the SteamVR settings file (MixedRealityVRDriver\resources\settings). I'm not sure if the shaders mod really improved performance but it definitely made the colours look a bit "meh", especially the grass textures. I still want to play around a bit to see if I can improve the performance. Does anybody know what the optimum settings are in SteamVR? The ones I'm interested in are the reprojection mode, legacy reprojection and the filter?
  3. But is it easy to revert back to standard if I don't like it?
  4. So what are your opinions on installing the Shaders mod? Is it worth it? I searched for opinions in these 531 pages here but only 1 person said it's not worth it.
  5. YEAH!!! Good man! Isn't there a NVG mod? That might be good so that you don't have to change the gamma
  6. Cool! Thanks for your reply, I will try to play around with those settings and see how it goes. I tried switching the pre render frames to 4 in the Nvidia settings and I think that made it worse. I tried setting the WMR fps setting to 60 instead of 90 and I think its a bit smoother but will need to compare again to be sure.
  7. Yep, flying the Viper. Overall i am happy with how it performs, it's just this little issue with low level or fast passing jets that I wish could be better. Majapahit, thanks, i'll give that a go!
  8. Hi guys, I'm new to the VR world and DCS. Overall I am super impressed how everything looks and my rig runs it nicely with good settings. I followed Thuds' optimisation guide and another guide on youtube for 2.5.6 . I do have one irritating problem and that is, when I fly past objects at low level or past planes at fast speed and mainly when I look sideways the object/plane seems to be flickering or blurring. I'm not sure if this is ghosting or a reprojection issue. WHere do I start with trying sort this problem? Is it called "ghosting"? Would reprojection be the reason for this problem or is it the 90 hz setting in Steam VR? I had a good search on this forum and youtube but couldn't find a fix.
  9. Hi Rider, I had another play with this great program and creating different tabs is exactly what I was looking for! So no need for bookmarks in my opinion. One thing that confused me was that when I clicked NEXT page , both kneeboard switched to the next page. I couldn't figure out how to get it to just switch the page on the left kneeboard, it still went to the next page on both kneeboards when I selected NR 1 to be the active one. Am I doing something wrong? I am not using any tablets btw.
  10. Hello again guys, I just had a little play around and noticed that you can improve the HUD readability by reducing the GAMMA setting in DCS settings. I had mine set to 2.5 , if you lower it to 1.6 it is better in bright clouds. I also want to reiterate that the HUD is perfectly readable in small clouds as you approach them and fly through them. It was just difficult to read in overcast conditions, in the top layer and above the cloud (if you are pitching down a bit). So if you are considering buying this module then don't let this stop you from doing so.
  11. PS: I tried your mission planner software (DCSMP), again another wonderful bit of software. Have you got any plans to add the F16 data to this? Or would it be possible for me to edit the fuel flow figures and drag factors for the F18 to reflect F16 performance?
  12. Cool, thanks for the answer. After a thorough search I read somewhere that DCS is planning on focusing upgrading the ATC system for the next update. Fingers crossed!
  13. Thanks for the quick reply. I think the ability to have bookmarks would make the program so much better, especially if you have loaded 40 or 50 pages of various documents. So looking at this video: At 0:30 you can see on the left kneeboard he has tabs on the left side that are named JTACchart / CA / PG / CHKLST / NATO OPS and then at the top it says ALL / EMG The version I have, I don't shows these sorts of tabs, or I have not been able to create it. Is this a newer version of the program?
  14. Well, maybe they will sort it and have most of the avionics working in the next couple of updates. I'm happy to wait. It's still a good product.
  15. Hi, I LOVE this program! Thank you so much for making it. I used Kneeboard Builder but it's not the most user friendly program to use. Switching to VRK has been fantastic! Quick question, perhaps I am doing something wrong but I can't figure out how to switch from bookmark 1 to bookmark 2,3,4 etc. I created key bindings on my hotas for next/prev page but I can't figure out how to go to the next bookmark. It's called PREV/NEXT tab, isn't it?
  16. Well, if you have a VR headset I would definitely recommend buying it. If not, then maybe you're better of with Falcon BMS because it's got the most complete avionics. I absolutely love the F16 in DCS because of the VR aspect of it. If it wasn't for that I probably wouldn't be playing it as much. The HUD is visible very clearly in scattered and few clouds but if you have a proper overcast last it gets really tricky to see it. You are able to switch on the HMCS and look around to get your spd and alt clearly, and that would be good for BFM but just using the HUD in clouds is a no go for me.
  17. So no visor or any other way to increase the brightness of the hud whilst above or in cloud....guess I just gotta pray for CAVOK weather for BFM!
  18. Hi,this is not a big issue/bug but just one i think could easily be coded to be correct. The F16 manual says: Ground Operations. During normal after-start checks, check the AR system. Move the AR switch to the OPEN position and check the AR status lights for a blue RDY light on and the DISC light off. Depress the AR/nose wheel steering (NWS) DISC on the stick and check that the amber DISC light is on. Three seconds later, the RDY light should come back on and the DISC light should go out. Move the AR switch to CLOSE and check that the RDY light extinguishes. The crew chief will confirm operation of the AR door and slipway lights. Confirm that the slipway lights are also turned up to illuminate the refueling receptacle. AND FROM DASH 1: NWS Light The NWS light, the center element of the AR/NWS status indicator located on the top of the glareshield, illuminates green when NWS is engaged. NWS does not operate even though the NWS light is illuminated when the NWS FAIL caution light is on or when system B hydraulic pressure is unavailable. On the ground, NWS continues to operate with the AIR REFUEL switch in OPEN even though the NWS light is off. *27. AR system (if required) - Check. AIR REFUEL switch - OPEN, RDY light on, DISC light off. NOTE If both the RDY and DISC lights are on, then one or more relays are failed. This condition must be corrected prior to AR. D A/R DISC button - Depressed. DISC light on, RDY light off; 3 seconds later, RDY light on, DISC light off. In DCS when you press the nws/disc switch on the ground with AR switch to open the NWS comes on but you don't get the DISC light. Like I said, no biggie but would be nice to have it correct. Thanks!
  19. Got a bit of a problem. I noticed that since using Kneeboard builder my F16 module will only accept and display PNG files in it's kneeboard folder if they are named the same as what the GROUP is called. I noticed that for any other module I can just throw a bunch of png files in their kneeboard folder and they get displayed no matter what they are called because I didn't use Kneeboard builder for those modules. How do I change the settings for my F16 module kneeboard to get it to accept and display png files that aren't name the same as the folder? Its as if there is a setting that says "only display png files named 01 F16 001.png , 01 / 01 F16 002.png / 01 F16 003.png etc etc Looked everywhere to change this but no luck. ANy ideas?
  20. So checked again, freq are AM. when I tuned Nellis tower on UHF it worked. But no ground control.
  21. I'm using the F16. Correct frequency dialed up and using the correct button to transmit on UHF but no reply from ATC. If I use the VHF freq and button i do get a reply from the TWR (start up clearance, taxi , take off). Is GND control and DEP /APP impelemented in DCS? Oh, I think it is all AM...not sure, I'll double check
  22. If you look at this video his HUD is readable....mine looks way more washed out. Maybe it's different brightness of the clouds or maybe it's because I use VR.
  23. It's realistic to not be able to read the HUD when you are climbing up to clouds? strange. So there is no key combo for a visor ?
  24. Hi, I'm fairly new to DCS so this may be a stupid question but despite searching I have been unable to find the answer. Does the ATC in DCS only work with the VHF tower frequency? or is this just the case for Nellis? No matter what I do, I can not talk to ATC via UHF. I can talk to the tanker via UHF but not ATC. Only the TWR frequency works for me, 132.55, so I have to ask startup/taxi and take off from 132.55. Is that normal for DCS? In real life don't military guys use UHF for almost all ATC?
