ENO Posted September 7, 2013 Posted September 7, 2013 (edited) We're all sifting through these threads in this forum looking for answers to the various crashes we started experiencing since 1.2.6. Common answers appear to be resolving 90% of the issues. These answers can be described as the 4 R's. RAM / Repair / Rename / Reinstall. RAM: Sorry folks- it seems the minimum requirements for the sim are going up and I'm not sure 3-4 megs of RAM are going to cut it. Time after time we're seeing reports that even with the 32bit RAM modification it's not working and resulting in consistent crashes. Someone from ED want to officially dispel this- well then be my guest. As it is now... probably time to upgrade to 64 bit and at LEAST 6 gigs of RAM. Quite frankly, 8 gigs has, from what I'm seeing, become the new minimum standard. REPAIR: Enter your start programs / Eagle Dynamics / DCS World and click "Repair DCS World." RENAME DCS SAVED GAMES FOLDER: Go into user / Saved Games / and rename your DCS folder to DCS1. Go back in and restart your game, SP or MP... preferably both as some files need to be re-written into the folder. This will "reset" the folder which, for many reasons, isn't changed when you reinstall or repair. Some of your settings will be lost- however bit by bit you can go back into DCS1 and transfer over your custom settings. REINSTALL: Simply uninstall and reinstall your program. Consider renaming your saved games DCS folder in the meantime. This certainly isn't going to hit every instance... however I recommend you try those three things before posting about your crash instance. It saves the rest of us who are trying to help from making these recommendations. Edited September 9, 2013 by ENO "ENO" Type in anger and you will make the greatest post you will ever regret. 71st_Mastiff Posted September 7, 2013 Posted September 7, 2013 will not let me do anything to the DCS folder for some reason. the one in User/ saved games /DCS say I don't have admin user authority when I do. I was able to do it with the other installed DCS folders but now after the update it state other folders are using it when it not even running. 71st_Mastiff Posted September 7, 2013 Posted September 7, 2013 And there gentleman is the evil of Steam:mad: I hate the thing work around though; go inside the User/DCS/ all those files in there delete them and then back to the user file and you can now delete the DCS folder, why have not a clue? ENO Posted September 9, 2013 Author Posted September 9, 2013 Bump- people are clearly not getting the message. Can a mod please update the title of this thread to that which is currently the "sub" title (visible when in the thread.) Thanks... saves me having to retype it all every time a new thread pops up. ENO Posted September 15, 2013 Author Posted September 15, 2013 Bump with additional info: C:\Program Files\Eagle Dynamics\DCS World\bin is the location of the "zweiBlau.dll" file that is consistently showing up in crash logs. I have renamed it (backed it up) and repaired. The program re-wrote the file. I'm testing this now to see if I get the error again (probably but hey, who knows). Also- entering the registry and removing user keys from modules experiencing "xxxxprotect.dll" errors has helped at least 1 person resolve those crashes (for now.) Doesn't sound like much but who knows how many are silently combing the forums and fixing these issues in the background. Worth a try anyway. I had checked earlier when I did my second repair and noticed that it did re-write zweiBlau.dll (although I did not rename) and it still would not load a flight.
SkateZilla Posted September 17, 2013 Posted September 17, 2013 (edited) for steam you have to end process on the steam services/processes otherwise you wont have permission to delete or rename the folder. alas I am able to change the files and folder names even with steam running...
