rajdary Posted November 20, 2014 Posted November 20, 2014 Hello, i just wanted to ask if upgrading from 8gb 1333 to 16gb 2100 was worth it? Will i percieve any difference in performance? I have : i7 4790K 8gb Ram Sabertooth MB ssd SLI gtx 780 Playing at 5760x1080 Thanks in advance. outlawal2 Posted November 20, 2014 Posted November 20, 2014 Upgrading from say 6 GB to 8 or 12 would be a big and noticeable difference because if memory is too low the OS has to swap to HD and this will bring everything to a crawl.. Load times would seriously suck. But if you already have 8 Gigs you would not see any benefit going to 16... (Unless you run a BOATLOAD of other applications at the same time..) If money is no object, you could buy 32Gigs of memory and setup a RAM disk and completely load DCS to the RAM disk and THAT would be very fast indeed. No load times at all.. "Pride is a poor substitute for intelligence." RAMBO

ED Team NineLine Posted November 21, 2014 ED Team Posted November 21, 2014 DCS use less than 4G of RAM. Depends on the mission, I have seen it get pretty close and even go over to 4 under extreme conditions... Forum Rules • My YouTube • My Discord - NineLine#0440• **How to Report a Bug**
Demon_ Posted November 21, 2014 Posted November 21, 2014 Yep! But under 5G. I mean... 8G is enough. Thanks, for the info. Attache ta tuque avec d'la broche.
Pepec9124 Posted November 22, 2014 Posted November 22, 2014 Unless 1.2.5 quality versions will not be released you are good to go.

Pilotasso Posted November 22, 2014 Posted November 22, 2014 8GB is bare minimum these days. DCS is not the only out there. Yes 16 GB is worth for a 4790K. My next build (by end next year or 2016) will probably be equipped with 32Gb or more. .
EtherealN Posted November 22, 2014 Posted November 22, 2014 DCS use less than 4G of RAM. Please note that RAM usage is very system-dependent. A game (or OS, program, whatever) will typically tailor it's usage as far as possible to resources available. Therefore, what "only" take 4GB on one system might take 8GB on another - simply because it is available, causing the latter instance to not unload things specifically to conserve memory, which on a powerful system might save performance. I would say 8GB is plenty for DCS World, but 16GB would allow considerable freedom in using other programs simultaneously without noticeable performance impact.
