GunSlingerAUS Posted October 8, 2010 Posted October 8, 2010 Hey guys I've only owned my G940 for about 3 months, and it was a gift to me from my better half. Therefore the chances of me selling this and upgrading to the new 'Hog stick are slightly better than an A-10 winning in a dogfight with a Mig-29. This has me very concerned. You see, after looking at the controls for A-10 (I've pre-ordered and am playing the beta) it appears that the real Hog has around 9 different hat switches on the throttle/keyboards. The logitech has around 3. For the life of me I have no idea which hat switches I should map to my stick, and which ones I shouldn't? Perhaps I can use the pinky switch to triple the number of hat switches? Any ideas on a logical grouping of the real hat switches? Nate--IRL-- Posted October 8, 2010 Posted October 8, 2010 Map them all :) My €30 joystick has one hat, one. But I have all/most of the HOTAS control mapped to my stick. "What this? All you say? Witchcraft!" I hear you cry, but no, there is no sorcery involved (but you can wear a wizards hat if you like.) The trick is to use the Modifiers ("Shift" buttons) in the control assignments. My joystick has 6 buttons for my left hand. If I press and hold, lets call it button one, and use the hat, I get trim. Press and hold Button 2 = Coolie hat - Button 3 = DMS, Button 4 = TMS etc etc. The Hat on its own is slew. Many hats in one, Easy huh? Normal hats are easy, just use pinky as modifier and assign two virtual hats to single physical one. Wir sehen uns in Walhalla.
Shake3000 Posted October 8, 2010 Posted October 8, 2010 Or use the mode switch on the throttle. This way you can assign three different functions to every button/hat (on the throttle AND the stick), and keep the pinky for NWS. I'm planning for a startup/takeoff/land/shutdown mode, nav mode and combat mode.

Considering the G940 is one of the most popular sticks on the market, and the dire need for more hat switches, I'd hope the devs remedy this. A couple of questions for you: a) How do I install your setup? b) What about all the other hat switches that are on the real stick? Do you find you have to use your keyboard a lot to activate these functions? Place that file in //Eagle Dynamics/DCS A-10C Beta Start A10C, go to options, then to controls. Scroll down to HOTAS under category. Click on any mapping key and "load profile" button will be available. Click that button and scroll all the way down to file named g940.lua. Hopefully, that will work. Right now other than countermeasures, I do not need extra buttons. But I also use TrackIR for view. 1

Crash_Fistfight Posted October 9, 2010 Posted October 9, 2010 (edited) Here's my profile (not 100% complete yet) for what its worth. I've opted for using the Logiprofiler, I changed some of the ingame keybings for the keyboard as either they corresponded to the keys I use for TrackIr or because of the Logiprofilers poor reproduction of modified keystrokes i.e SHIFT_C. I've also assigned all the controls that are press and hold i.e trim/target slew as keystrokes in the profiler because the logiprofiler Commands don't handle press and hold keystroke reproduction very well and it is best to use keystrokes i've found(only downside is you can't give keystokes names like commands they take their name from the keystroke itself). Anyhow on another G940 related subject. How awsome is the force feedback in A10C? Once this is back ported to Black Shark the G940 will be perfect for the Shark. I also hope they do a FFB patch for FC2 even if there isn't a compatibility patch.:music_whistling:DCS A10C Warthog Profiles.rar Edited October 9, 2010 by Crash_Fistfight
GunSlingerAUS Posted October 9, 2010 Author Posted October 9, 2010 Thanks Crash_Fistfight. May I ask: a) Do you use TrackIR and/or pedals? b) What do I do with the xml file in your attachment? mikey Posted October 9, 2010 Posted October 9, 2010 So force feedback works in A-10C? I just tried your profile and I made sure FFB was enabled in the config file, but I haven't noticed a single FFB effect. I've got 99 problems but my Ekran ain't one
Crash_Fistfight Posted October 10, 2010 Posted October 10, 2010 @Gunslinger. I use Trackir and pedals. The xml is my g940 control assignments. Make sure to first back up your own profile by selecting it in the Logiprofiler, then click the profile button in the top left of the profiler window and select export which will create an xml backup of your profile in a location of your chossing. You can then import using the same menu in the profiler. Unfortunatley logiprofiler only allows one profile per exe and profiles have to have an exe in order to be created which is a major flaw in the software so when you import my profile it'll overwrite yours. If you do try mine out note I use two shift buttons S5 on the stick and T4 on the throttle, they're both the same it just makes reaching the HATS/buttons easier. @mikey. Their isn't any rumble or gunfire/explosion effects I just ment that the spring centre was tight and that response curve followed the trimmed position as opposed to FC2/BS were it was still pretty loose and when you trimmed you ended up with a different stick response because you had moved along the response curve to the part were it goes exponential.:joystick:
hreich Posted October 10, 2010 Posted October 10, 2010 Here is fix for Logitech software import profile overwrite problem You can try the following: 1. Export the Profile (named e.g. FC2.xml) 2. Open with Editor / Notepad 3. somewhere in the first lines you find a string: <Name>FC2</Name> 4. change <Name>FC2</Name> to e.g. <Name>DCS Warthog</Name> 5. Save as e.g. DCS Warthog.xml 6. Import the Profile to the profiler. This is what member docehrenhoefer emailed to me...Hope it helps.. @Gunslinger. I use Trackir and pedals. The xml is my g940 control assignments.
