latearrival Posted June 16, 2011 Posted June 16, 2011 (edited) There is a little white arrow to the left of the ADI, pointing at the Glide Slope Deviation Scale. See the screenshot. It is not the Glide Slope Indicator (the little white chevron) and it does not appear in the manual (Figure 88, Page 112 of v1.1.0.8 ), so I'm hoping one of you clever chaps would be kind enough to tell me what it is/what it is for. Thank you! Depth Posted June 16, 2011 Posted June 16, 2011 That thing tells you your altitude offset to the ILS glidescope. Page 110 in my manual :) [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
bluepilot76 Posted June 16, 2011 Posted June 16, 2011 (edited) I looked it up the other day, it wasnt clearly explained. I THINK it is supposed to show how far you have moved the pitch bar with the circular knob on the right hand side of the instrument. EDIT that will teach me to speed read technical manual- No its Not! I tried it briefly but didnt notice it showing the offset so I might be wrong. EDIT Yes I am! It is a bad design, if correct, because its easy to start looking at that and think you are perfectly on the glideslope. Edited June 17, 2011 by bluepilot76 ...... latearrival Posted June 16, 2011 Author Posted June 16, 2011 It is a bad design, if correct, because its easy to start looking at that and think you are perfectly on the glideslope. Exactly! I've been fixating on the damn thing when practicing my ILS landings. I'm kinda hoping it is a bug and that it might be removed one day... bluepilot76 Posted June 16, 2011 Posted June 16, 2011 Need to see a picture of the real cockpit, there was a good one the other day, but I cant remember what thread it was on. I was fixating on it as well, getting a bit more used to it now though. Usually my GS is anywhere EXCEPT stable and in the middle lol! hawk2495 Posted June 16, 2011 Posted June 16, 2011 http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=75635 post #4 from lucky bob, a really good shot of the ADI, I don't see that arrow there, but the image is a little small to be sure. Why is the rum always gone!?!?!?!
latearrival Posted June 16, 2011 Author Posted June 16, 2011 And I can only see a chevron on this one too: http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=1199340&postcount=28 And, here, with the ILS not selected on the NMSP, there is no chevron (as expected) and no little white arrow: http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4144/4996069258_b41d602b89_o.jpg Windows 10 | i5 2500k @ 4.4Ghz | MSI GTX 970 4GB | 8GB RAM | ASRock P67 Extreme4 | Seasonic X-Series 650W PSU | Oculus Rift DK2 | CH Fighterstick, Throttle & Pedals
bluepilot76 Posted June 16, 2011 Posted June 16, 2011 Well done on the pics!, interesting but nothing conclusive eh? It looks like when the electics are off all of the flags are displayed (red flags, flight directors, and that 1 chevron) When the electics are on I cant see a chevron. Kind of indicates it might be a bug to me. BTW I have an ADI fom an F4 at home, obviously it has no power. All of the flags are displayed on that as well. I can not check for a couple of week s because I work away, but I am sure it does not have two chevrons. Technical Specs: Asus G73JW gaming laptop... i7-740QM 1.73GHz ... latearrival Posted June 16, 2011 Author Posted June 16, 2011 Thanks Blue. I'll leave this thread for a day or two and see if anyone has an explanation. If not, I'll repost in Tech Support and see if it can be acknowledged as a bug. Wolf Rider Posted June 17, 2011 Posted June 17, 2011 I don't think it appears in the shots in the manual either City Hall is easier to fight, than a boys' club - an observation :P "Resort is had to ridicule only when reason is against us." - Jefferson "Give a group of potheads a bunch of weed and nothing to smoke out of, and they'll quickly turn into engineers... its simply amazing." latearrival Posted June 17, 2011 Author Posted June 17, 2011 Now you've confused me Wolf (which isn't hard!). Item 10 in the manual's decscription of the ADI says: "To the right of the scale is a white chevron that moves up and down the scale according to your position on the glide slope" On my ADI (see my picture in the first post), I can see this chevron. But there's another arrow above it. I've put this in another piccy. Are you able to tell me what the difference is between the two? Rdiehl3 Posted June 17, 2011 Posted June 17, 2011 (edited) I think its your bank angle triangle cue. there is also one f the same triangle type white thingy at the top 12 o'clock postion (Dont know why it would be at the 9'oclock postion) Should be only 12oclock and 6 oclock postions). If your doing ILS's I can see it moving up and down if your wings are banking. If you bank 30-60 degrees Im guessing you'll see it move down or up to those bank angle notches. My guess Ill need to check it out myself. Use the smaller white thingy/Glide slopoe indicator. Might be bug or they added it on by accident. From what I see it should not be there. KLaFaille Posted June 17, 2011 Posted June 17, 2011 (edited) There is no white triangle on that scale on the real ARU-2B/A Indicator, only the chevron, end of story. The only triangles on the instrument are the two at the north and south poles of the sphere which turn in unison with it, and the triangle at 6 o'clock which stays stationary. It is something that should not be in the simulator and needs to be removed. Edited June 17, 2011 by KLaFaille redundancy
latearrival Posted June 17, 2011 Author Posted June 17, 2011 I think its your bank angle triangle cue Good guess, but no. It doesn't move when you bank. Kaiza Posted June 17, 2011 Posted June 17, 2011 Flew an ILS the other night and noticed this too. I have to agree that it seems highly doubtful that this pointer occurs in a real A-10c. If so the engineer that designed that HMI should be shot.
