add setCoalition fuction to match getCoalition function

There are a lot of requests already on this forum in support of the idea of having additional sides or coalitions beyond the existing Red, Blue, and Neutral, I fully support these requests, and they should also include functions to set the hostility of the different coalitions. In a similar vein adding a command that woud allow units or nations to have their coalition switched would be a welcome addition to DCS. My use case for this is that I am making a mission in which the players will be primarily operating inside one country (UAE on the Persian Gulf terrain). I would like to have AI air patrols in adjacent countries (Qatar, Oman, Saudi Arabia) that will only become hostile only if they players stray into the airspace of the adjacent countries. My current work around is to have the AI flights always as Opfor set to Late Activation, and then activate them with a triggers shaped to the airspace of the adjacent country. If I had a way to change their coalition I could have them set to Neutral and actually on patrol, then use a fuction like setCoalition to change them to hostile if the players stray into their country's airspace. Possible implementations of a setCoalition command could either change the coalition of the entire nation, or just of a specific unit, or add a command for each option. Examples: Change unit's side CoalitionObject.setCoalitionUnit(coalition.side) myPlane.setCoalitionUnit(RED) Change nation's side coalition.side.setCoalitionCountry(countryId) RED.setCoalitionCountry(73) -
[ME] Ability to add coalitions to a mission.

Hello, With the addition of the Syria map, the missions and battles that we can now simulate are going to be more complicated than the simple RedFor vs BlueFor that we have in game. Some people are having issues with the current 2 factions. Could we get a way to add more coalitions if we want to? For example, putting NATO into one coalition, and assigning them to blue icons. Then, putting insurgents into another coalition, and assigning them grey icons. Then, assigning Iran and Russia into another coalition, and assigning their units to red icons. This would allow for much more complicated missions, and would be extremely useful. -
Hi, can you make better coalitions for this map? Add factions like PKK, YPG, Revolutionary Syrian Army, Islamic insurgents... Actually its hard to generate the real Syrian theatre

Hi Everyone, As a very small and minor QoL improvement to the mission editor, would it be possible to have user definable presets for the coalitions? Right now, we have 3; they are Custom, Modern and WWII, with 'Custom' at least being able to be overwritten. What I would like is the ability to create new presets, and then be able to edit, rename and overwrite them; this is simply because I tend to make coalitions map and era specific, and it would simply save time to configure it once and then have the preset to fall back on.

I own the Rotorheads server, Helicopter oriented PVE server, so Creating Farps is quite a common task.. But sometimes due to the enemy position it brings some issues in these farps, I believe (not 100% sure) the distance of a red unit to a farp to change it to contested is 1 nm or so... also a single soldier seems to change this against many tanks etc... so any helicopter can rearm or refuel from those places... So I'd wish there were a way to config the distance or other parameters, to change this bases coalition.... or even have an option to force a coalition and prevent the change in the first place. Thanks!

Hi everyone, Whilst making a huge training mission for literally everything I can think of, I stumbled across a hurdle - because there are only really 2 choices of coalition (Red or Blue) but the main training 'country' if you will, are the USAF Aggressor Squadron, it's not possible (AFAIK) to set-up scenarios where both BLUFOR and REDFOR can attack a common target (and each other) in the same mission. Essentially, I wanted a mission where both sides could conduct weapons training without necessarily attacking each other (like a provocation) but do so simultaneously on both sides in the same mission. The problem is you can't set up missions with multiple belligerents, nor can we have independents/neutral parties, nor can we have opposing belligerents attack a common target as well as each other. EDIT: Right now we do have a neutral coalition, but it is simply the collection of countries that are unassigned, and it's not possible to set any kind of allegiance up or what their posture should be relative to other coalitions. What would be great is if there was a third coalition (rather than just BLUFOR, REDFOR or not present) which can then be used as: A.) a common target for BLUFOR and REDFOR B.) A neutral coalition, e.g for civilians/neutral nations or C.) A dynamic coalition who's allegiance can change during mission progression (perhaps using triggers). A better solution is to have the ability to to add, edit and remove coalitions, which should be made possible to do on the fly, throughout the mission editing process. like how it should be possible to add/remove countries as desired throughout the mission creating process (this, not just at the start where everything is set in stone and completely immutable (this can be a royal pain, you set up how you want your countries, you get into mission building, decide that actually I want to include xxxx or remove yyyy but you can't make any alterations without starting all over again - probably fine if you notice straight away, but later on it's really annoying). EDIT: This has been implemented. There should be the ability to set allegiances for each coalition - what other coalitions xxxx is friendly/hostile/neutral to. Obviously REDFOR and BLUFOR should be hostile to each other, but for any other it should be possible to change who they're friendly/hostile/neutral to. (Side thought - it might also be useful to have the ROE set coalition wide as an initial/default state for each unit in that coalition (rather than having to change it for each group), but still retaining the ability to set it individually if desired). While on the subject of allegiances, it would be really great if these allegiances could not just be altered but dynamically so as a mission/campaign progresses. For instance the coalition "GREENFOR" if you like, is allied with BLUFOR, an action happens activating a trigger which changes their allegiance to another coalition or sets it to become hostile/friendly/neutral to another etc. Taking it further and it could also be used to add/remove certain countries from coalitions during the progress of a mission (say a particular country is neutral, but then they're attacked, changing the allegiance of that country). This would allow for far more complicated ROEs as well as setting up more complex and dynamic missions. You could use this system to recreate conflicts whereby 2 coalitions are fighting a common enemy but are still hostile to each other. It would certainly work better with insurgents and would allow for independent coalitions. All in all it makes the whole business of coalitions much more flexible - adding weight to DCS as a true sandbox simulator. It's just an idea, but in my opinion at least, it would add a whole new level to missions and campaigns. EDIT: see here for a proper example.
