Guest ThomasDWeiss Posted February 13, 2006 Posted February 13, 2006 http://www.janes.com/aerospace/military/news/jdu/jdu010425_1_n.shtml I was reading an article about the Su-25 this weekend and found this - an Israeli-Georgian upgrade of the Su-25 with a HUD and two MFD and what look like Cougar HOTAS ! here is the video link http://www.janes.com/aerospace/military/video/scorpion176.mpg
Shaman Posted February 13, 2006 Posted February 13, 2006 Yeah, this thing's been flying for quite long. You can get more info on Elbit's systems webpage http://www.elbitsystems.com/ direct link to Su-25 Scorpion info: http://www.elbitsystems.com/lobmainpage.asp?id=333 and http://www.elbitsystems.com/data/SU-25[new].pdf edit: Oh, and Elbit's MiG-21 upgrade Lancer for Romanian AF, is awesome. Guest ThomasDWeiss Posted February 13, 2006 Posted February 13, 2006 http://www.elbitsystems.com/lobmainpage.asp?id=333 Thanks - what a cockpit!
Dudikoff Posted February 13, 2006 Posted February 13, 2006 edit: Oh, and Elbit's MiG-21 upgrade Lancer for Romanian AF, is awesome. Saw that MiGs for real while I was in Romania I would disagree. Russian MiG-21-93 is much more powerful (at least the more expensive variants of the upgrade). As I recall, the Israel upgrade makes two versions - a fighter and an attack plane. And the "fighter" version gets a new radar but only short range AAMs. Some fighter.. The Russian upgrade (don't know if it's still exists) combined both plus it offered even better radars and even R-77 missiles could have been integrated. i386DX40@42 MHz w/i387 CP, 4 MB RAM (8*512 kB), Trident 8900C 1 MB w/16-bit RAMDAC ISA, Quantum 340 MB UDMA33, SB 16, DOS 6.22 w/QEMM + Win3.11CE, Quickshot 1btn 2axis, Numpad as hat. 2 FPH on a good day, 1 FPH avg. Force_Feedback Posted February 13, 2006 Posted February 13, 2006 I beleive India has got them "Bisons" with the Kopye radar and 2x R-77. Creedence Clearwater Revival:worthy:
MBot Posted February 13, 2006 Posted February 13, 2006 Interesting tough that this high-tech Su-25 still has same crappy RWR installed.
peterj Posted February 13, 2006 Posted February 13, 2006 Interesting tough that this high-tech Su-25 still has same crappy RWR installed. ssssh SPO-15 Beryoza :) Struck me to.
britgliderpilot Posted February 13, 2006 Posted February 13, 2006 ssssh SPO-15 Beryoza :) Struck me to. Actually, the whole upgrade doesn't actually seem to offer that much more in the way of capability. Looks like an instrument upgrade, and . . . . . actually, that's about it. Not that there's anything wrong with westernised instruments, decluttering the cockpit, making everything easier to read, simplifying presentation of information and easing pilot workload . . . . it's a superb idea! Anyway - how do you know that the Beryoza is the ONLY system on board? They could have wired in some clever systems to display threats on an MFD page, with the Beryoza as backup or an alternate display for when you're looking at another page . . . . . If you can do the same for the other electronics, doing it for the Beryoza isn't that hard. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v121/britgliderpilot/BS2Britgliderpilot-1.jpg
Lixma 06 Posted February 13, 2006 Posted February 13, 2006 I'm suprised they dumped the Russian ADI in the conversion. In the game it's a stunningly accurate piece of kit; i've been practicing blind landings with it and while it's hardly an easy past-time you can have total faith in the ADI.
Weta43 Posted February 13, 2006 Posted February 13, 2006 It's a nice intuitive way to do it - yeah. Maybe the Georgian's just wanted as little to remind them of where they got the planes from as poss. Cheers.
Fish Posted February 14, 2006 Posted February 14, 2006 I saw this at Farnborough 2002, static display. Dident even know what it was back then, so was not so interested in it. . Right ...and you are a specialist ... and is not Israel Upgrade... It was done in Romania with colaboration...
nscode Posted February 14, 2006 Posted February 14, 2006 Romania does have some 21-93's as I recall Never forget that World War III was not Cold for most of us.
Ender Posted February 14, 2006 Posted February 14, 2006 I've heard that they upgraded most electronic stuff - I mean, weapon computer system, navigation system etc with newer electronic parts, but, as new parts are of less weight, they loaded su-25 scorpion with a ballasting mass. main upgrades said was adapting the copcit for ingrared goggles and gps navigation, as well as adaptation for NATO air-to-ground amunition. WE DON'T WANT A WAR.
Greenies Posted February 14, 2006 Posted February 14, 2006 Can the Israeli air force really afford a HOTAS Cougar? :D :D I want to get away, I wanna fly away. Yeah, yeah, yeah! - Lenny Kravitz - Fly Away
Weta43 Posted February 15, 2006 Posted February 15, 2006 The US government gets them a discount. Cheers.
