press Posted February 10, 2014 Posted February 10, 2014 I know the Mi-8MTV is not finished yet and there are projects planed, but is there a chance to see an old version Mi-8? The one with TV2-117 engines.
AlphaOneSix Posted February 10, 2014 Posted February 10, 2014 I'm no developer, but I'd say the chances of that happening are extremely low. In fact, I'd say there is zero chance. 1
press Posted February 10, 2014 Author Posted February 10, 2014 I know, but couldn't hurt to ask. I would have loved to see it done with all the limitations, lazy take offs, slow landings.
AlphaOneSix Posted February 10, 2014 Posted February 10, 2014 I would love to see multiple models of all kinds of aircraft, but I tend to believe that once one is done, there won't be another version of it made until several other different aircraft are done first. But that's just me and we'll never know until the announcement is (or isn't) made. I'd say we'll see a UH-1B before we see an Mi-8T, for example.
Hueyman Posted February 10, 2014 Posted February 10, 2014 Yes a real Huey gunshi^would be awesome, to leave the genuine slicks their own tasks, without more weapons than M60s ... But we can only speculate [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] CPL(A)IR ME/SEP/MEP/SET - CPL(H)
dahui Posted February 10, 2014 Posted February 10, 2014 A 204 Zivil Version with a Bubble Door and Mirrors would be also nice and a 214 for the Hardcore AerialWork Stuff, with BambiBuckets etc. Or a 212 it is also close to the 205 and... and... and... Serious : Finished Projects... that would be nice :) Serious #2: The Cargo thing would also really be nice ^^
Slazi Posted February 13, 2014 Posted February 13, 2014 I'm curious about the level of interest for this. Would people pay for an upgrade that would allow them to fly a different version?
press Posted February 13, 2014 Author Posted February 13, 2014 For an Mi-8T, the one with TV2 engines, I would pay.
flanker1 Posted February 13, 2014 Posted February 13, 2014 For an Mi-8T, the one with TV2 engines, I would pay. i share exactly your opinion. we need more former soviet era hardware.

These 2 have been done . Whenever the A-7 is released it will have several versions , probably a D and an E . A-10C - A-10A SU-25 - SU-25T
lmp Posted February 13, 2014 Posted February 13, 2014 I would buy a Mi-8T. It's one of my favorite helos and the Magnificent Eight is my favorite module for DCS. That said, unless it would be a very easy and quick project for BST (and I'm not qualified to judge that), I don't really see why make something that would offer an experience so similar to what we already have. Maybe once we have an abundance of aircraft of different types and classes, but we still don't have DCS: Fighter, DCS: Western Gunship, DCS: Eastern Bombtruck and many, many others.
press Posted February 13, 2014 Author Posted February 13, 2014 Although they do look almost alike, they are two different helicopters. The exterior model will not require that much work, but for the systems (engines, electrical) they will have to be redone almost from scratch. The starting procedure is different and it will be very interesting to be flown in hot days. You have to be really patient as seen in the film bellow If you fly a Mi-17 like a Mi-8 you will be safe, if you fly a Mi-8 like a Mi-17 the ending will be unfortunate.

I was always under the impression that the Mi-17 is "just" the export version of the Mi-8? Certainly with differences due to the intended market segment, but really a "totally different" helicopter? A few additional or replaced avionics systems - but beyond that ...?
lmp Posted February 13, 2014 Posted February 13, 2014 The Mi-17 is the export designation for Mi-8 helicopters with the TV3-117 engines. Earlier machines with TV2-117 engines were exported as Mi-8. Easiest way to tell them apart is by the tail rotor - the TV3 equipped birds have them on the left, while the ones with TV-2s on the right. What I meant when I said the old Mi-8T would offer a similar experience to the MTV-2 is not that the change in performance wasn't significant, but that the old Hips performed pretty much the same role in mostly the same air forces. Only not as efficiently.
