And note that the S-530D share the same (with some variation) aerodynamic design with the AIM-54, The R-27 is more classical... But i don't know if it really mean something.

Erab Posted November 4, 2015 Posted November 4, 2015 Jojo explained it just a couple pages back. Read that, so basically the end of the snake is where I put my target right?
SilentGun Posted November 4, 2015 Posted November 4, 2015 When the radar has a lock there will be a targeting circle or something like that. Right now it looks like the snake isn't finished so there is no targeting circle Link to my Imgur screenshots and motto http://imgur.com/a/Gt7dF One day in DCS... jojo Posted November 4, 2015 Posted November 4, 2015 How does the gun snake work? Do I point the end of the snake at my target? I'll try to explain more simply : The snake is display of gun shell trajectory in time and range (the two are linked by shell velocity). It normally starts at 200m and ends at 1300m. To hit the target you need to place it on gun snake at correct range, and account for shell travel time (range/ 800, 800m/s being muzzle velocity). To help you do that 2 possibilities: - Without radar lock: 2 ranges cues at 300m and 600m representing target wingspan (adjustable) - With radar lock : a point on gun snake at exact target range and circular range counter. The snake behave like it does in Falcon 4 with gun in SNAP mode. Mirage fanatic ! mattebubben Posted November 4, 2015 Posted November 4, 2015 its very much like the gun sight on the Mig/Su but instead of a funnel there is a line(Snake). But it works in a similar way. (yes its closer to the F-16 but for ppl who only play DCS the Su/Mig funnel is a ok comparison)
Azrayen Posted November 4, 2015 Posted November 4, 2015 Well, if you say so then we will have to thrust you I guess...:D Pun intended? :D :smartass:
jaguara5 Posted November 6, 2015 Posted November 6, 2015 Today was a big day! I visited the Tanagra AB, homebase of the haf M2000's (c and -5). Will do that also tomorrow and on sunday (open days for the public) The pilots were very friendly and answered all my technical questions (nothing classified of course). So here we go . All the informations are for the 2000c rdm 3 version (not the -5) 1. Regarding the gun symbology on the HUD. With a radar lock, there is a piper with a smaller inner circle, which rotates counterclockwise according to the distance of the target. You have to put the pipper over the target. Without a radar lock, there is the snake Line. The 2 vertical Lines, are the 300 (big one) and 600 m (small one) range markers for the target whith the preselected wingspan. (sorry for my poor english!) So first you enter the wingspan of the target, and if the target is 300 m away, you have to aim with the big vertical Line on the snake Line, if the target is 600m away, you aim with the small vertical Line. If the target is between 300 and 600 m , you have to put the target between the two vertical Lines on the snake. The pilot has to estimate off course the distance visually. Very simple. 2. About the close combat (dogfight) radar modes. The 2000C has exactly the same modes as the f-16 (minus 1 mode), with exactly the same scanning patterns, ranges etc. (see the f-16/ bms manuals). The reason for that, is that these modes are universal demands of the military Industry and not only for the f-16, said the pilot. First mode is the vertical scan mode. The pilot mentioned this mode as VERTICAL. When selected, a vertical dashed Line appears on the hud (in the f-16 the Line is not dashed). Next is the boresight mode, with a small circle in the hud, which cannot be slewed by the pilot in the M2000. And the mode that covers the whole area of the hud (can't remember the name, reffer to the f-16 manuals). Symbology for that mode is a big circle that covers all the hud area. 3. The HDD is an MFD. 90% of the time the pilot selects the radar screen. the 10% is for exocet firing parameters selection. The hdd can also display naviation data (HSD). No data link Information for the C (only for the -5). 4. The aircraft has excellent flight behaviour in low speed's, due to the delta wing, with no vibration. 5. Regarding crosswind landings, crab is the used technique. After touchdown, the plane align itself with the centerline of the runway, due to the big span between the 2 main weels. Now, I have to think more questions for tomorrow! 2

jojo Posted November 6, 2015 Posted November 6, 2015 Nice report. If you can ask : What switch is used to call Exocet firing parameters on HDD ? When they call Exocet data what about radar display ? Does it disappear or just is just the Exocet options that are displayed on the HDD side ? Do they have ship TWS ? 1 target or more ? Mirage fanatic ! VTJS17_Fire Posted November 6, 2015 Posted November 6, 2015 (edited) What's a bullseye? A bullseye is a fictive point in the airspace (with coordinates) and is used as a fixed reference point for every aircraft of your coalition. With a bullseye you always know the exact positions of your own aircraft (but you have to add altitude and direction to find/ intercept them) and you can report targets (air and ground) for every other pilot in your team, because all of them use the same bullseye (reference point). I did a tutorial about the topic, but it's in German. Here is an older version in English.
