cichlidfan Posted March 12, 2014 Posted March 12, 2014 (edited) I can certainly cut it back. Cutting it back to 12 would be ideal. Then do that. I am far more interested in the three trim wheels than a boat load of switches. Oesau Posted March 13, 2014 Posted March 13, 2014 Regarding the switches, would the intention be to have them unlabeled so they are generic as opposed to labeling them? I've listed a possible config that I know I would use and where I have tried to limit the switches to cover both sides of the cockpit i.e. left side and front dash only. I did this as a way to work out in my own mind what number of switched would I go for. I couldn't think of any use of the rotary encoders. In fact there are lot of 3-way switches in the P-51D cockpit rather than two position however I think the aim should be to make it fairly generic for the use with other aircraft.
cichlidfan Posted March 13, 2014 Posted March 13, 2014 The five position switch might have limited utility in other sims but for the P-51 it is perfect for fuel tank selection. Stevos758 Posted March 13, 2014 Author Posted March 13, 2014 I can make it completely generic if you want. I can put 12 spst or spdt switches and the trim pots, flap pot in and call it a day? You guys work it out what you want the most. I am open to ideas. Facebook Ripp's Garage Tech LLC
cichlidfan Posted March 13, 2014 Posted March 13, 2014 Labeled for the P-51 would not be a downside, if I am making an overlay already (for unlabeled switches), since the existing labels would be covered as long as the overlay was opaque. I have done this for my Warthog though usually just something crude until I get used to a new aircraft. The two or three position question is always a good one if you are trying to make something generic. Outside of DCS most sim's control setups don't make three positions very useful but they are probably still worth having for DCS alone. The question is, how many of each? Stevos758 Posted March 13, 2014 Author Posted March 13, 2014 So second question.... I might get a cnc and will be able to make panels..... Then the tops could be customizable/interchangeable... Facebook Ripp's Garage Tech LLC
cichlidfan Posted March 13, 2014 Posted March 13, 2014 I doubt I would be interested in getting multiple panels, as sweet as that would be. The primary reason is that, over time, my control layouts sometimes evolve thus obsoleting a (possibly) somewhat expense set of labels. Now if I had my own CNC milling/engraving machine...;) ASUS ROG Maximus VIII Hero, i7-6700K, Noctua NH-D14 Cooler, Crucial 32GB DDR4 2133, Samsung 950 Pro NVMe 256GB, Samsung EVO 250GB & 500GB SSD, 2TB Caviar Black, Zotac GTX 1080 AMP! Stevos758 Posted March 13, 2014 Author Posted March 13, 2014 Alright. How do you feel about 12 SPST toggle switches. one row on the back and one row on the top. 2 extra pots not including the 4 for trim and flaps and 2 rotary encoders? Also I am ordering my CNC today so the top might be switched out to a panel. Then I can customize for the user as needed. Facebook Ripp's Garage Tech LLC

tintifaxl Posted March 13, 2014 Posted March 13, 2014 I would even suggest 3-4 encoders so we could operate the radios in the A-10C with this. Windows 10 64bit, Intel i9-9900@5Ghz, 32 Gig RAM, MSI RTX 3080 TI, 2 TB SSD, 43" 2160p@1440p monitor.
cichlidfan Posted March 13, 2014 Posted March 13, 2014 I would even suggest 3-4 encoders so we could operate the radios in the A-10C with this. I disagree. Oesau Posted March 13, 2014 Posted March 13, 2014 That sounds better. Agree, sounds a good and flexible approach and it's best to keep it simple - best to lock in the scope.

Stevos758 Posted May 16, 2014 Author Posted May 16, 2014 No. Sorry. Next week. I have been really busy. I just moved the CNC to the garage so I can do some serious machining. Ill get some updates by the end of next week. Facebook Ripp's Garage Tech LLC

I would be willing to ship but I bet it will be very expensive! When I get something finished let me know. If you can find a reasonable way to ship it I would be glad to try. Lausbub78 Posted May 16, 2014 Posted May 16, 2014 Hm,haven't thought about the shipping cost.^^ I've ordered small electronic parts from the USA a while back and the shipping wasn't that expensive, even with UPS. But it certainly depends on the weight also. No idea what it would cost, but I belive it would not be more than 30 Euros.
Oesau Posted May 18, 2014 Posted May 18, 2014 I've had the MFG Crosswind pedals shipped from Croatia to Australia so if the finished product is what I hope it will be then I would commit to it.
