Hi Folks,

A quick note to let you know that, thanks to the efforts of d13-th_zaelu, there is now a video rendition of the "R-27ER vs AIM-120: Winning the SARH vs ARH Duel" tutorial on my site. This is timely, since the V1.12 patch broke this tutorial.

You'll find it on the A2A page.

Enjoy. And thanks again Bogdan,

Great! This solves the "version" problem for these movies, although the movie file itself is much bigger when rendered as a video. Luckily for me, I have a broadband internet connection, so the file size isn't a big problem for me.

I want to get away, I wanna fly away.

Yeah, yeah, yeah!

Yeah, it's quite a bit unfortunate that all your work more or less is rendered outdated every time patches are released. Maybe avi is the best way to go, for old tracks at least, even with drawbacks like file size and not being able to 'take control' mid track.

The problem with broken tracks after patches has been around since day one, and I'm surprised little has been done to remedy it. After all, it actually also breaks the product itself somewhat, by disabling the default tutorials.

Maybe ED could come up with a track versioning system that keeps separate copies of older flight models (basically just a bunch of dll's I reckon), that automatically kick in solely for playback of old tracks? Has this been seriously discussed before?

Not only did it broke the tutorial, but I think it no longer can be donne that easely anymore. I Always suspected Flanker drivers to dodge missiles like this. I hated to do this, and have it donne to me because:

1) Agressive defensive such as this implicates to still be flying torwards your targets, and usualy works on the firts missile but not on a 2nd rightly timed AMRAAM. This hapens because a 2nd AMRAAM wont be driven away by a 30 angle off and pitch since it has more time to match that turn from farther away and with more speed.

This still worked well on 1.11 because the AMRAAM would be spoofed much more easely with chaff rippled or not. Youll find out rippled AMRAAM shots will now have their targets shot down much more often. You wont get lucky with chaff anymore if a 2nd AMRAAM is not outmanuevered.

2) I dont think this is a very realistic way to dodge missiles. If they pass as close as they do in LOMAC youll still be hit by the proximity fuse IRL. LOMAC doesnt model very well proximity detonations. And this tactic is a consequence of that. No one in his perfect mind will try the same stunt in reality.

The tutorial does provide " a wealth of information" on how dodging is timed with the RWR. But believe me, the missiles wont miss as much even if I havent "slept with your girlfriend"! icon10.gif

Thank you folks. Conversion to video does take care of compatibility and improper playback issues but at a severe cost in terms of smaller screen size, larger filesize, and lack of viewing flexibility to name a few. And, while the problem's been around from the very beginning, ED has been hard pressed to find a reasonable way around it. Anyway...

Pilotasso,

I hate to burst your bubble but tomorrow I'm publishing a video made with V1.12 called ALAMO vs AMRAAM. You guessed it. Shorter stick but the same maneuvering works just fine. No chaff used, since I normally forget I have the stuff along.

I haven't taken the time to check recently but I did check way back in Flanker 2.X I believe it was. At the time, I felt that proximity fuses weren't functioning as they should. So I went in and took measurements and did the math. Turned out the missiles were missing by far more than it looked. "Near misses" actually weren't. But I can't speak to FC since I haven't taken the time to check.

Probably not unless there was no other choice. The reality of death has a very sobering effect. In the real world, if I were ever in the cockpit, I'd be running away and the missile would be hard pressed to even find me let alone reach me. I still say that the sim should cost $500 and, if you "died" it ought to uninstall and refuse to reinstall. After all, you're dead. It'd change the way we all fly our virtual aircraft. :)

To be as realistic as possible, it should cost $5 Million and refuse to let you back in once you are dead. ;)

Mmmmm... But at $5M, only a government would buy the sim. :)

Mr. Putin would find himself all alone in Hyperlobby :D

What do they use the "real" sims for anyway? Those that real pilots use in training. Just basic flight training, failure procedures, or also for combat trainng?

Never forget that World War III was not Cold for most of us.

Yes (to all 3). Combat training might include combat maneuvering, target acquistion, weapons employment, etc.

Just watched your new video and as always I'm impressed:). You should however, if I'm not mistaken, compress the audio aswell.

Right now it's @700 kbps and 60 MB for a two minute vid is a bit much for those without broadband.

Really? I thought I had. Maybe not. It might be the vid I was working on last night that I'm thinking of. I'll have to check and see if I can backtrack and repackage it.
