For the moment I use Paint.NET v3.5.11 but anybody can explain to me is DXTBMP is better or not ? If you have any suggestion or feedback, please can you help me ? A great thanks in advance for you assistance. bongodriver Posted April 17, 2014 Posted April 17, 2014 I like paint.net, don't have much experience with DXTBMP but thought it was really just a convertor.
Blooze Posted April 17, 2014 Posted April 17, 2014 The only reason I use DXTBMP is to convert the dds files to BMP files. I use Photoshop for the actual work and then DXTBMP to convert them back to dds files. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]

There's no reason for using DXTBMP for dds textures if you're working with Photoshop. https://developer.nvidia.com/nvidia-texture-tools-adobe-photoshop ■ L-39C/ZA Czech cockpit mod ■ My DCS skins ■

GeorgeLKMT Posted April 17, 2014 Posted April 17, 2014 I installed the plugin but can't open dds files with Photoshop. It works for me since forever. Is it installed properly? If you're trying to "save as", can you select dds as you desired format and will the configuration dialog appear afterwards? Can you open dds files via "Open..." menu at least? ■ L-39C/ZA Czech cockpit mod ■ My DCS skins ■

Re-installed to be sure but Photoshop CS2 still doesn't recognize a dds file so I cannot open in Photoshop. I can't check the "save as" function if I can't open it first. I'll just continue to use DXBMP for conversion. It's no big deal. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Skulleader Posted April 17, 2014 Author Posted April 17, 2014 Hello guys, In fact I use Photoshop Version 7.0 (old version) and when my work is OK I use Paint.NET but there's one thing that I cannot understand: I save all my files in BMP and after with Paint.NET I save in DDS format but when everything is OK I have 2 extensions for my files: XXXX.bmp.dds. Exemple: civ_uh1_Cavalry.bmp.dds Is it normal ? Once again a great thanks for your explanations. If you look at the original dds files as they exist in the DCS folder you will see the same extensions on them. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]

shagrat Posted April 19, 2014 Posted April 19, 2014 I use GIMP with the DDS plug in! The biggest advantage apart from being open source is it supports layers like Photoshop. Only issue I came up with is DDS compression while saving, for now I use "no compression", but generate mipmaps. Can you guys tell me what settings you use when saving DDS? Do you use compression, and if yes, which one? Do you generate mipmaps?
