Vinny002 Posted May 1, 2014 Posted May 1, 2014 Hi, guys! I noticed something is not right regarding the external fuel tanks: when I set the fuel tank selector to LH combat tanks or RH combat tanks, the engine is not getting any fuel even with the fuel boost pump on and when priming too. Any solution to this? Thanks Cheers, Vincent
joey45 Posted May 1, 2014 Posted May 1, 2014 If you are starting the aircraft from cold then use internal tanks. The only way to make sense out of change is to plunge into it, move with it, and join the dance. Mike Busutil Posted May 1, 2014 Posted May 1, 2014 Fuel is forced to the carburetor by an engine driven pump at a normal operating pressure of 16-19 PSI. In addition, there is an electrically powered booster pump in each internal tank. The booster pumps prevent vapor lock at high altitudes, assure sufficient fuel supply under all flight conditions and, in case of engine driven pump failure, provide enough fuel to the carburetor for normal engine operation. The droppable tanks do not have a booster pump. However, a constant and controlled pressure of 5 lbs./sq.in. is maintained within the combat tanks by pressure obtained from a vacuum pump. This is in addition to the pressure obtained from the main engine fuel pump. Vinny002 Posted May 1, 2014 Author Posted May 1, 2014 Hi, Mike Busutil! So do I get the fuel from the external fuel tanks? Thanks! Cheers, Vincent
Zabuzard Posted May 1, 2014 Posted May 1, 2014 They should operate normal if you select them inflight. The engine must run in order to obtain fuel from externals. Start and takeoff with internal fuel, after airborne you can switch to external.
Paganus Posted May 1, 2014 Posted May 1, 2014 Always start and takeoff on the left internal tank. This tank has the return line on it, so you need to make some space in the tank if it's full.
