Currently running 3 1080p monitors in eyefinity with another 1080p Helios monitor. planning on adding a couple 640x480 monitors to the mix. currently using a 6970 card with 2GB of memory. I can get a couple of 7970's for 3 bills. they have 3GB of memory each. I know DCS will only use 1 GPU but I'm not sure if it will utilize the memory on both cards. I will probably have a total of 7-8 monitors displaying various viewports so I think I will probably need at least 4-6GB of memory.

Thoughts?

If you set them up in Crossfire then the memory is mirrored, so you will only have 3GB of available VRAM.

I don't think I'm going to xfire them. So if I don't xfire I will have 6Gb available?

I'll probably use 1 for the 3 main screens and the other for the cockpit monitors.

Standalone, Crossfire or SLI the video memory never adds up.

Use your best video card and drive as few monitors as you can for your requirements with that card.

Easy to experiment; the moment you have Direct3D on another card the FPS goes down dramatically.

what is your CPU Thick8? I have the same GPU and have been scared to hook up my three monitors... are you saying you are running 4 monitors on the 6970?? what are your FPS online?

Yep, running 3 monitors in eyefinity and a touchscreen for Helios. Frame rate is not bad. I'll do a couple test tonight to give you some accurate numbers.

My CPU is a 1090t running at 3.9Ghz with 8Gb of memory.

Where is this myth coming from that DCS "will only use 1 gpu" ?

If it is for ATI cards, then you should blame the poor driver support of ATI, works like a charm for Nvidia .

Also, sorry for bad video quality, settings in game are maxed out (8x AA though) , but i had to record with my phone otherwise the sli indicator is not shown.

Stop, Just Stop.

Crossfire is Not supported. It's not a Myth or a Driver Issue.

As for Dual GPUs,

XFire or No Xfire, the Memory will be 3GB, as Anything coming from DCS Will use the Same DirectX Pipeline.

If you need more Memory, Aim For a Vapor-X 6GB ($300-$400) or a R9-290/X

Also note that EVGA is coming out with 6 gig 780s. If'ns you wanted to go with nVidia. Not a bad price either. $569 -(Same as what I paid for my 3 gig)

I run 4 screens also with one 3 gig and they run really good. Going with the 6 gig when it comes out.....just to have better.

will EDGE take advantage of more GRAM and better support for modern features of GPU's,

(just seen it will support DX11, so i'm guessing yes?)

Using a GTX770 OC 4GB version atm, can't wait for the price to come down to get another

One area where AMD has a clear advantage: it can do 6 monitors on R9 series while nVidia does only 4, even on their super expensive Titan Black 6GB.

Please note that 6 monitors are done with a MST DisplayPort hub for cards with only one DisplayPort socket.
