Revan Posted May 13, 2014 Posted May 13, 2014 I, for one, would definitely like to see a DCS Vietnam, with a multitude of Vietnam era planes, and a massive map of the area for it to take place in. Who else would like to see something like this? DCS: F-4E really needs to be a thing!!!!!! Aircraft: A-10C, Ka-50, UH-1H, MiG-21, F-15C, Su-27, MiG-29, A-10A, Su-25, Su-25T, TF-51
Winfield_Gold Posted May 13, 2014 Posted May 13, 2014 We could even do multiplayer missions of the evacuation from the US embassy Saigon. The last chopper to lift people off the roof was a UH-1
Scrim Posted May 13, 2014 Posted May 13, 2014 Wasn't the embassy, nor was it the last airlift during Frequent Wind. Also, another Vietnam map thread? Isn't the half dozen we already have enough?

Devil 505 Posted May 13, 2014 Posted May 13, 2014 Kickstarter and a group of dedicated third party devs. That's what DCS needs for this project to take off. We all want it and EDGE can do it. Just need the funds and the talent. Instead of thread after thread, we should start searching for a team to take this project on and start making it a reality. Found this link earlier. Really interesting stats about every aircraft shot down during the Vietnam war. I will say though, its wikipedia, dont put to much weight into the exact numbers. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aircraft_losses_of_the_Vietnam_War Regards Robert

I only made this thread to see what everyone thought about this concept. DCS: F-4E really needs to be a thing!!!!!! VincentLaw Posted May 13, 2014 Posted May 13, 2014 Yes, as long as it does not require me to install my modules twice to use them in both World and Vietnam. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Flogger23m Posted May 13, 2014 Posted May 13, 2014 The main issue would be the lack of Vietnamese aircraft. MIG-17/19/21 and Mi-8. Anything else? The fighters were all dated compared to the F-4. I do not think South Vietnamese F-5s fought MIG-21s. Something based around the wars in the 60-70s with Israel might be better. Mirage 3s are a better match for the MIG-21. And you can still add in A-4s and F-4s.
Faith Posted May 13, 2014 Posted May 13, 2014 (edited) The main issue would be the lack of Vietnamese aircraft. MIG-17/19/21 and Mi-8. Anything else? The fighters were all dated compared to the F-4. I Even if the Vietnamese and Russian fighters were dated they achieved very high kill ratios on US aircraft due to poor air to air skills from US airmen. So depending on the exact type of US aircraft modeled, the "dated" aircraft would probably still have an advantage. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TOPGUN On a side note, Vietnam was a terrible war and I'm not sure some DCS owners would want it modeled due to personal experiences. So that is a vote for no from me. A better option might be a fictional conflict derived from a similar landscape (I assume you just want jungles/mountain/rice paddies with period aircraft) with a chosen set of vintage aircraft, instead of a realistic setting. Scrim Posted May 14, 2014 Posted May 14, 2014 (edited) Faith: Well, relatively terrible. The best achieved was on average two Communist planes for every American plane lost in dogfights. I beg to differ, maybe do some research before flaming a thread If you're going to accuse me of flaming anyone, make sure you're right first. The very last helicopter part of the organised operation was a CH-46 airlifting the Marines from the embassy. The first film you linked to showed something that sure wasn't a Huey, nor was it the last helicopter in the airlift. I doubt it was even the last day. The second is not either the last airlift, nor is it even the American embassy. The last one makes no mention of the last airlift. Mind retracting your accusation? Edited May 14, 2014 by Scrim
