PastorJoe Posted May 29, 2014 Posted May 29, 2014 Hello guys & girls. I was thinking about getting myself DCS World for b-day present in July so i was thinking about upgrading my GPU little bit. Would i be able to run DCS and most module on pretty good settings without hickups with these specs: OS:Win 8 64b. Motherbord: Gigabyte GA 970A-UD3. CPU: AMD FX-6300. 8Gb Ram.Gigabyte GTX 760OC( have now GTS450 but thinking about getting the GTX760 , is it maybe a overkill?) Happy flying, PJ.:pilotfly:
cichlidfan Posted May 29, 2014 Posted May 29, 2014 I can't speak about your CPU but definitely upgrade the graphics card. The difference between GTX and GTSanything is huge, and no the 760 is not overkill. ASUS ROG Maximus VIII Hero, i7-6700K, Noctua NH-D14 Cooler, Crucial 32GB DDR4 2133, Samsung 950 Pro NVMe 256GB, Samsung EVO 250GB & 500GB SSD, 2TB Caviar Black, Zotac GTX 1080 AMP! Extreme 8GB, Corsair HX1000i, Phillips BDM4065UC 40" 4k monitor, VX2258 TouchScreen, TIR 5 w/ProClip, TM Warthog, VKB Gladiator Pro, Saitek X56, et. al., MFG Crosswind Pedals #1199, VolairSim Pit, Rift CV1
Flogger23m Posted May 29, 2014 Posted May 29, 2014 It would help to upgrade the CPU as well. But the GPU is easier and would be a good upgrade.
joey45 Posted May 29, 2014 Posted May 29, 2014 DCS world is free [ you the 2 planes the Su-25T and TF-51D] so download, install and see for yourself. The only way to make sense out of change is to plunge into it, move with it, and join the dance. lanmancz Posted May 29, 2014 Posted May 29, 2014 (edited) I have the GTX760 and I can recommend it. It's a good value for the money and DCS (as well as all other games) work really nice with it. I'm able to play DCS with all graphics settings on max. The real bottleneck is the single core (technically dual core) engine that DCS is now using. When there are lots of units in the mission (100+ for me) the FPS goes down somewhat. To solve that we have to wait and hope that EDGE when it comes out utilizes multicore cpus properly (never seen an official confirmation of this though but maybe I missed it). edit : So at the moment for top performance you need mainly good cpu, ideally overclocked so you get max performance out of that single core. But by no means you have to buy a whole new PC to enjoy DCS. Until recently I used to play DCS on old core 2 quad Q9400 and GTX285. You just need to tune down the graphics to medium-low and play smaller missions with only small amount of units (<50). I got nice fps with that old pc (MUCH better and MUCH more stable than FSX for example) - got it capped on 30 and it was fine. edit2 : also some modules are more demanding than others. fc3 modules run smoother than a10c for example.
