Anatoli-Kagari9 Posted June 6, 2014 Posted June 6, 2014 (edited) The time I have to dedicate to DCS is a lot less than what I needed to get proficient flying at least the P51d, but if I decide to wait to get capable of doing everything before going online, I will never go online :-( Yesterday I entered two servers, but the list of available servers is huge, and I was really trying to find some sort of MP session where I can practise dogfighting with the p51d vs p51d ( while the FW or other models aren't available ) pretty much as I do in IL2 BoS. A server where formation flight or P51d-based aerobatics / overall training maneuvers takes place would also be great to know about. Any suggestions? On the very positivie side ( as usual with anything about DCS ), it was superb to find it sooooo difficult to find another P51d around, which was actually very close to me, flying in the same area, but, just like IRL, very difficult to glimpse. I cheated by going F10 and back, but even my new toy, a SUPERB TIR5, was useless during most of the time. I really have to go online more often :-) Edited June 7, 2014 by jcomm Flight Simulation is the Virtual Materialization of a Dream...
Shahdoh Posted June 6, 2014 Posted June 6, 2014 The Virtual Aerobatics Public server is a 24/7 non-combat server, great place to really learn flying the aircraft without the threat of getting shot down. Plus, lots of experienced people to help answer questions you may have. Dogs of War WWII Combat server would be the place to go for combat in the Mustang. They have some really cool missions that include PVP and Coop against AI in very challenging arenas. Another good choice is the DCS Israel server, though they rotate their missions around multiple aircraft and various missions, non-combat and combat. /Salute
Merlin-27 Posted June 6, 2014 Posted June 6, 2014 Thanks Shahdoh, I was going to supply the same list. All are worth a visit. Make sure you try to join TS if possible. It really makes a world of difference, as I'm sure you know. Anatoli-Kagari9 Posted June 6, 2014 Author Posted June 6, 2014 Thx for the list! Will certainly give it a try. Flight Simulation is the Virtual Materialization of a Dream...
dooom Posted June 6, 2014 Posted June 6, 2014 make sure to join us on ts3 jcomm! the fellas at [DoW] are always VERY happy to assist new pilots get their wings with the p51. Were a pretty low key, affable bunch… The only thing we try to encourage is that folks read the briefings of our missions online. It helps us help you understand whats going on. See you in the sky. jarhead2b Posted June 7, 2014 Posted June 7, 2014 +1 Dogs of War hands down while utilizing Teamspeak. Only truly WW2 dedicated full time server with any population.
Anatoli-Kagari9 Posted June 7, 2014 Author Posted June 7, 2014 Well guys, again thanks a lot for the suggestions. This morning I joined my first successful MP session. I found the "DoW" server, hit connect, and voilà!, I was online, at some airbase ( sorry, I didn't read the mission brief :-/ ) with my p51d parked, cold & dark. Went through the procedures, and when I started taxiing some other player landed and came next to me. We both took off, flew a circuit, with some formation flying, landed in formation too - was GREAT experience and no shooting took place :-) I then realized that I will invest my next week of holidays, away from my flightsim PC :-(, to read the manuals and understand at least how to start a communication with someone, preferably on my team :-) One thing I noticed when I hit F10 to go into map view was that this view is exclusive ( no inflight map view available? ). There were also no icons on the map showing other aircraft- I guess this makes part of the difficulty level on this particular server because yesterday I entered one where I could see icons for other aircraft, troops on ground, etc... But, even without actually entering Combat, which is not really what matters for me - I enjoy flying in the very 1st place, virtual or in RL - the experience was SUPERB, and this DCS World is really immersive - I have to say that although this is not yet EDGE, the scenery, the sounds, the overall fluidity of the simulation are astounding! Will try to join you online, after carefully reading the mission briefs next time! Flight Simulation is the Virtual Materialization of a Dream...
GRTeh Posted June 7, 2014 Posted June 7, 2014 There is a server called WW2 Combat server or ww2 dogfighting something like this.I see it almost every day!
Anatoli-Kagari9 Posted June 7, 2014 Author Posted June 7, 2014 (edited) There is a server called WW2 Combat server or ww2 dogfighting something like this.I see it almost every day! Ok, thanks - I'll search for this one as well. Successive disappointments with the poor flight and overall physics modeling of most civil flight simulators made me turn almost fully into Combat Flight Simulators. When I finally decided to buy DCS World, 1,5yrs ago, I made that decision because of the P51d, and because, in the very 1st place, I love accuracy and quality in flight simulation, and after having experimented with the P51d at a friends PC, I admited I had to have it, even if Combat flight simulation was then, and until very recently, quite away from my plans. I then acquired all other aircraft modules, more as a way of supporting the DCS World project than because I wish to use them, specially for combat. Modern Air Combat is way to complex for me, and I do not have the time to learn all of the sophisticated systems and how to master their use, so, I believe that this P51d, and in the future any additional WW2 add-ons, are going to be my only form of online combat... For aerobatics, and non combat flight, I use the helicopters, again because they excel in simulating the flight dynamics of rotary wing, giving me a unique experience and one that I could never ever find in any of the civil flightsims I used, and I would also like to know how to operate the jet fighters, specially the A10 and those that come with FC3. Among all of the many ( practlically all you can name ) flight simulator I have used during the last almost 25 yrs of flight simulation, I have to say that although I am aware that the scenery engine in DCS is outdated, it is still the closer to real experience I have had in any sim. The sounds, the colours of the Earth, water and skies, the feel and perspective of flight, and now even the thrill of the MP experience are UINIQUE! I get very close experiences with IL2 BoS and Rise of Flight, and that's why these 3 simulators, together with Condorsoaring - which is the only one I am using to simulate my RL type of flight ( I fly gliders since 1980 :-) ), became my "exclusive" flight simulation platforms, with IL2 BoS occupying 80% of the time, but DCS now becoming a strong competitor :-) I do not have n«much time available, but I intend to go through the manuals, at least to get acquainted with the MP settings and controls / menus, and I'll try to use DCS World primarily for online flying. Whiplash Posted June 7, 2014 Posted June 7, 2014 I do not have n«much time available, but I intend to go through the manuals, at least to get acquainted with the MP settings and controls / menus, and I'll try to use DCS World primarily for online flying. If you really want to learn quick, go through the manual, but also jump on teamspeak on one of the mentioned servers and at least in my experience just about everyone will be willing to talk to you about flying the mustang. Anatoli-Kagari9 Posted June 7, 2014 Author Posted June 7, 2014 Wiplash, yes, I really intend to, as soon as I get back to my sim computer, in a week from now :-( I'll cnnect to their TS server, and try to obtain any help available, first for a few trainning missions, and then for some air combats :-) Flight Simulation is the Virtual Materialization of a Dream...
akshaytumber Posted June 8, 2014 Posted June 8, 2014 Hello jcomm, If that was you who I was flying with yesterday on the DoW server, then I am glad that I could make your first dcs world mp session that much more enjoyable. It was a blast to fly with you. As the others have pointed out, jumping in on the teamspeak server would make the experience even better. Also I enjoy just flying like you said so maybe we can do that again sometime. Akshaytumber p.s. sorry for my crap formation flying. Gotta work on that. Hopefully you find the time to join me agian.
Anatoli-Kagari9 Posted June 8, 2014 Author Posted June 8, 2014 @Akshaytumber Whow! Yes it must have been me - and why do you say your formation was crap? It was great! Thanks for not having left, specially because I was not even able to start a decent chat, until I found that going into the Mission board I could use the chat window... I really look forward to be able to fly with you again one of these days, but not before the end of next week, because until then I will be hundreds of miles away from my sim computer :-( Flight Simulation is the Virtual Materialization of a Dream...
ctguy1955 Posted September 7, 2014 Posted September 7, 2014 I have gone onto the DOW website and registered and received an email stating I was accepted to the forum. When I try to log on, it uses my email addy instead of my nickname and does not allow me to log on. I could go days and not try, and go on and it will automatically say I have tried too many times and it wants the DCS thing put in, and even when I do that, I cant ever log on. Ive tried so many different ways. Im lost as to what to do. I also have gone on TS3 and tried to log on and it keeps saying cant log on. I did go to a place and I found a DCA World lobby that had Putzer Newb City. Can anyone give me some advice as to what to do ? The email that was sent to me saying I was approved for the forum... I wrote back and have not gotten any answer.
