i'd like to ask the forum.. what are some quality monitors out there

 

not going to be able to swing the 4k

 

i'm thinking.. 1440p, 30-in (and larger) - 60Hz - fast response rate

 

what's available out there - because i'm not seeing a whole lot

 

seems like the "standard" is 27-in --- but i want to do this "right" and i'd like something larger

 

i've been advised to steer away from "TVs" - yes, you can get SIZE, but i'm interested in quality and i don't think i'd be happy with TV-as-a-monitor for DCS

30" (2560x1600) is about the biggest your are going to get, though I seem to recall a 32" somewhere along the line. Dell, ASUS & Samsung have, or have had, some decent large monitors.

 

I finally switched from a Dell Ultrasharp 27" (U2711), which actually has a smaller dot pitch than the 30" model, to a 40" Samsung TV mostly because I wanted the size. The pictures is definitely not as crisp, which is one of the reasons I did not go larger, but it will do until the 4k TVs come down a little bit.

I think a 50" 4K TV would be great for DCS.

Problem is that an affordable one (Seiki) does only 30 Hz while a good one (Panasonic with Display Port) is quite expensive.

 

Currently using a 30" Samsung 2560x1600 and four 24" 1920x1200 but I would not buy anything but 4K considering the future.

Or maybe Oculus Rift if they figure it out...

I use a 40" LED tv and it looks great, cost me about $400 a year ago.

I use 42" 3D 1080P TV.

 

Fortunately I have not used higher resolution monitor before, so the image quality appears just fine to me.

Higher than 1080p monitors and TVs are too close to the price of the new 4K displays so I guess waiting is the strategy for now.

I just recently bought the AOC Q2963Pm 29" at 2560x1080 and I think its an excellent ultrawide screen for simulators and other games. The extra view on both sides makes a great difference in sims. Doesnt feel like looking through a straw anymore. Its also the native 21:9 aspect ratio of movie theaters so movies look really great on it without the black bars. I can run it great on my aging GPU and its a good stop gap compromise before the Oculus Rift.

 

Now if I had the money and if youre willing to throw closer to 1000$ I would get the 34" AOC u3477Pqu at 3440x1440. I hear monitors of that size and aspect ratio are simply amazing!

LG, Dell and AOC are all launching their new ultrawide monitors this year. LG already has a pre-order and specs to view at over 1000$. Check

video about the amazingness.

 

Dell and AOC are also launching theirs soon. As for the price, LG is the most expensive, Dell comes a bit cheaper and AOC is the cheapest. My guess is that the AOC will cost maybe 700$ on launch. The good news is that they all use the same panel, at least it was the case with the previous generation, so panel quality should be guaranteed. Only the "packaging" varies and gets cheaper, obviously.

 

3440x1440 has 40% less pixels than 4K and 34% more than 1440p but still requires some serious GPU performance.

I got one of those AOC ultra wide monitors and I love it the only problem i have with it is the bezel. You do notice a bit of a performance drop on some games but its ok now that my second GTX 670 4gb OC is on the way lol

i hope that my ASUS GTX 770 would be ok with one of this monitors 2560x1080p

If it has at least 2GB of VRAM then you should be just fine.

actually it is the ASUS GTX 770 DirectCU II OC 2GB version that i have

thanks for the reply i hope so that is gonna work great at least for my 24" 1920x1080p monitor it works awesome but i don't know what the performance hit will take with the 2560x1080p

You should be fine (I really like the ASUS DirectCU cards too). You are only adding 33% more pixels.
