Ya, more aircraft, bigger theatres, a lot of explosions and fire. I am also dreaming a DCS future in pacific theatre with savage carrier battles.

Don't know what IL2 you're referring to, but if it's IL2 BOS, I am using it to, and intend to continue supporting both simulators because I find them both SUPERB! :-)

Flight Simulation is the Virtual Materialization of a Dream...

I finally deleted all of my IL2 files, over 30 gigs. I have flown P51 sims since Aces Over Europe, Air Warrior, Fighter Duel, WarBirds and finally IL2. Each sim brought something new to the table and man...DCS really takes the P51 to the next level; not just cockpit management but the mass of the plane as well. Like playing chess with cheap plastic pieces, then you finally get to play with a set of heavy wooden pieces. It just feels right.

Topic hasn't been moved . . .

I know in Rise of Flight, its definitely "arcaded out". They have a biplane here, and got to fly around in it. They do acrobatics and there's a second pit big enough for couples. The camel replica next to it flies about the same speed and maneuverability wise. Those things are slow. I mean slow. Even compared to a Cessna.

But there's just sometime awesome flying the biplane with my face in the wind, even if the helmet isn't period (for safety), and at that speed allows one to look around see the sky, how the clouds are, watching the ground, cars below. Even watching down town cruise across below is fun.

And it must have been gut retching watching opposing planes slowly get to you knowing that doom is creeping up and about to arrive.

In this summer blockbuster and space age time, few have the patience to fly around in a properly modeled biplane and I can see why they made that more game like. But I'd rather they sim it right. But unfortunately Rise of Flight devs can't capture the feeling of riding a biplane because the technology isn't to the level of Startrek's holo-dock.

But Rise of flight is more exciting and faster (than real). I am wondering if they did the same to that as they did with ROF (make it faster / more action oriented).

I haven't tried the new IL-2 series, the Battle of Britain won't run on the PC (it's specs are more than enough, 3.7 quad and GTX 770)), and the Battle of Stalingrad supposedly will work, but to join the open access its the cost of two modules. I guess they learned their lesson from the first one and testing it out.

It's hard to compare things. Both set of developers have different sets of goals and plans for the WW 2 genre.

DCS has its own thing. Who knows once the normandy map is done and all the units promised for the World War 2 set, will DCS or a 3rd party will revisit that era and make another WW 2 theater?

DCS world will allow us to do the civilization thing (the game), where a ww2 era civ can go head to head to modern civ . . . like the scenario where one can go jets and helos vs props. I saw a poster of a F-14 tomcat and it said that one plane had enough firepower of an entire WW2 fighter squadron. Well in DCS world that can be put to the test (well they have to have the TOmcat module though).

I'm sure Il-2 can do it if its modded but that might only be once they release a SDK but the devs there said it was on the long range outlook.

The 777 new IL-2 series seems dedicated to doing what the old IL-2 has for WW2 so I'll expect them to expand it, and the devs there have stated they will continue if it sells (based on the forum those people there will definitely do that).

One thing for sure, is the new IL-2 fans almost have the same passion we have here! :D And some have dual citizen ship ;)

Wow what a sensation! Feels like real flying. The only thing that keeps drawing me back to Il2 is there is plenty to shoot at. Whereas in DCS, I am just a lonely pony, occasionally picking on D9 dummies.

Hope now after the release of the Dora u can see more action...

I used to play Aces High. They had a central server in Texas, we all paid $15 per month to support it. We did not buy individual aircraft purchases, access to more than 80 aircraft was included. Prime Time: Eastern Time Zone until Prime Time: Pacific Time Zone averaged 300 guys per night, more on the weekend. Occasionally they flew 2 or 3 hour big battles historical re-creations that could have 600 guys on all at the same time.

I do not fly there anymore primarily because it is a bit arcade compared to DCS.

DCS and FSX numbers in the fighting community, if 20 guys or more are on at once is a really big deal and rare, except for the 104th.

Maybe the DCS MP numbers will get better when the WWII thing gets on its feet.

I support both titles (BoS Founder), but after getting back into DCS with the Dora release and catching up on what I missed with the Mustang, it IS hard to get back into BoS. The flight model and pits give an incredible sense of realism. Of course, BoS has bigger numbers on MP to have fun with and a better spotting model...

In my perfect world, the folks at 777/1c would convert the planes and map into a DCS Edge module as their next project. A man can dream...

I'd love for more people to buy both, frankly.

I support both as well. :)

I wish that ED (and partners) would knock out more content more frequently so I can gobble them up, but I guess quality takes time.
