Pinefang Posted June 30, 2014 Posted June 30, 2014 So I have a .trk file that I want to share either on you tube or Facebook. Where do I start? Anyone care to help me in the right direction?
Suchacz Posted June 30, 2014 Posted June 30, 2014 (edited) You can record a video from a *.trk in the mission editor - "Record AVI". It's pretty straight forward. Pinefang Posted July 1, 2014 Author Posted July 1, 2014 Record AVI problem So I have made a .avi movie that I recorded from a saved .trk file through the Mission Editor RAT. The audio is fine but the video is totally screwed. I left all adjustments at default values. Anyone know what my problem is. I can't upload the .avi because it doesn't appear to be an accepted format for the forum. I know a picture is worth a thousand words but I tried to upload it and at 27GB the forum wouldn't accept it.
xaoslaad Posted July 1, 2014 Posted July 1, 2014 You could use fraps - downside is its not free. Regardless of which way you record you can use handbrake, which is free, to convert to mp4 which should drastically reduce the size.
Pinefang Posted July 1, 2014 Author Posted July 1, 2014 I downloaded Handbrake and tried to convert the .avi files that I have. It appeared to have worked in converting the file to MP4, however the video is still screwed up and unseeable. I'm beginning to believe that DCS world Record AVI is not converting the .trk file into a usable .avi file. Can someone please try to convert a saved .trk file to .avi using record avi and let me know if they get a good video out of it. It would really help in trying to figure out if I am doing something wrong or is this broken in DCS world? Thanks for your time.

Please read again on pros and cons of RAT vs FRAPS and decide which is the right tool for you. In my opinion FRAPS wins only on really powerful systems, with separate disk drives and only due to convenience. Just take a look at 1080p videos of DCS on YouTube. Most of them look like crap, mostly due to multiple conversions. Two is enough to obtain a crappy video if you don't know what you're doing :) RAT helps avoiding conversions. In the meantime: - please either order your media player to produce a screenshots or use prnt screen button to paste what you see into some image editor; make sure the screenshot represents what you really see (i.e. the problem) and upload it here; even low quality JPEG is fine but PNG is preferable; you can crop the image too - avoid ANY unnecessary conversions on your video material. Every single video/sound conversion will degrade the quality (more on the subject in the RAT thread) conversion - audio/video encoding, re-encoding; even a simple crop or resize triggers re-encoding Edited July 5, 2014 by Bucic F-5E simpit cockpit dimensions and flight controls Kill the Bloom - shader glow mod Poor audio Doppler effect in DCS [bug] Trees - huge performance hit especially up close
Cobra847 Posted July 5, 2014 Posted July 5, 2014 OBS - Open Broadcasting Software, if you're on AMD. Grab nVidia Shadowplay if you are on nVidia and have a GPU that supports it. 2 Nicholas Dackard Founder & Lead Artist Heatblur Simulations https://www.facebook.com/heatblur/
SkateZilla Posted July 5, 2014 Posted July 5, 2014 I 2nd OBS, works a lot better than FRAPs and stuff, goes right to .MP4 so I can upload to YT easy, or I can just live stream to YT :) Windows 10 Pro, Ryzen 2700X @ 4.6Ghz, 32GB DDR4-3200 GSkill (F4-3200C16D-16GTZR x2), ASRock X470 Taichi Ultimate, XFX RX6800XT Merc 310 (RX-68XTALFD9) 3x ASUS VS248HP + Oculus HMD, Thrustmaster Warthog HOTAS + MFDs
drsgfire Posted July 5, 2014 Posted July 5, 2014 I agree, OBS is definitely the best option. First of all it's free and being that it is primarily built as a streaming recorder it does a great job of recording over LAN as well. I have mine set to record video to a separate storage server and it never misses a beat. Encoding with NVIDIA.
Pinefang Posted July 8, 2014 Author Posted July 8, 2014 Example of my finished movie Here is what I end up with after making a movie with Fraps and Handbrake. I have tried all three modes in Handbrake. I am using an AVI file from the RAT in Mission Editor. Can anyone tell me why I am having such a problem?

Please state the entire workflow, step-by-step, e.g. RAT (options you used) > Handbrake (options you used). In your last post you've mixed RAT with fraps which is impossible. 1 F-5E simpit cockpit dimensions and flight controls Kill the Bloom - shader glow mod Poor audio Doppler effect in DCS [bug] Trees - huge performance hit especially up close
Pinefang Posted July 9, 2014 Author Posted July 9, 2014 Thanks all for helping me out with getting a video published to Youtube. I do have the Nvidia video card and saw the Shadowplay thing when it would update but I never paid any attention to it. It works great and uploaded to Youtube fine Thanks especially to cobra847 I will send you some rep for the help. If any one wants to watch the Heavy Weight and landing in the A-10c here is the shortcut. Pretty hard landing but I don't think I hurt anything. 64600 lbs. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lY4Q1BvpSrE
