Hi guys,

I have a problem with the CDU as the title suggest but not sure about the circumstances.

The problem appears usually after I switch to Mark and then back to Msn with (UFC)func->8 "MARK", then (UFC) func->9 MSN. Then when I try to enter coordinates in MGRS format (with coordinates switched to MGRS of course) I get the "CDU INPUT ERROR" or similar message. I am trying to input the coordinates from (UFC)func-> 3, that is "WP". It doesn't matter if I try to create a new waypoint or modify an existing one.

It happens regularly so I wonder what am I doing wrong ?

Any idea? Cheers

I'm not completely sure. Maybe you enter the numbers without zeros at the beginning? That happened to me a few times.

Or maybe there is still something entered in your scratch pad?

Does the error appear as soon as you start typing, or when you press the OSB to save the mark point?

What happens if you clear the error and try again? Does it work then or do you get the error again?

You could post a track, that would make the error easier to spot. :)

Steps off the top of my head(at work).

Enter coordinate

Wp name

Add entry by selecting number. It will overwrite mission wp.

Only thing that comes to my mind:

are you perhaps editing a markpoint? AFAIK you can't change MP coordinates. But this would happen regardless of MGRS / L/L

I'll second the checking if you need zeros in front suggestion. Coming back after some time off and I was banging my head against the wall for while because I could enter the north coordinates in a L/L but kept the "CDU input error" with the east coordinate. When I looked at my notes/checklist I realized I needed a leading zero for the east then everything worked perfectly. Can't remember where or if you need zeros in MGRS.

If I am correct, you dont need zero's for MGRS. You only need to have the Grid and (do less than 6 work aswell? never tried) 6-10 numeric coordinates.

It works fine with only six digits. It will auto type zero's in the end, e.g.

if you type GG381460, once entered into the CDU it becomes GG 38100 46000

It is actually possible to enter just two digits, e.g. GG34. That will be interpret in the CDU as GG 30000 40000.

It doesn't look like it is possible to get CDU INPUT ERROR when standing on a mark point. The [] aren't visible. However if typing the MGRS with spacing between letters and digits the CDU INPUT ERROR will come

Hit the WP button for waypoint page after using mark points. The CDU will then accept the coords.

you can edit WP's you cannot edit MARK points with this MODEL A10-C, the "newer" A-10C (would have to do a search to find model.) has a option to edit MARK points, and other nice features. EX JHMCS.

Since my last comment, when I am on "MARK" and want to create a waypoint I do this:

1. I go to the Waypoint menu on CDU.

2. I do FUNCT+9 (MSN) on UFC to switch from Mark to Mission.

3. Because the CDU will usually have a MARK point selected I "go to" last waypoint I remember.

4. I create a new waypoint with my custom name and enter the coordinates.

I never touch the rotating switches by the CDU, I only use UFC.

So far, no problems. If you have an easier way of switching from Mark to Mission, please share.

Cheers.
