ED Team NineLine Posted February 2, 2015 Author ED Team Posted February 2, 2015 Maybe you don't need the hyper-threading technology. I do use stuff like Photoshop/CS6, 3D Studio Max, video editing software... It should help there right? Forum Rules • My YouTube • My Discord - NineLine#0440• **How to Report a Bug**
Demon_ Posted February 2, 2015 Posted February 2, 2015 Yep! Photoshop can take advantage of the hyperthreading. Attache ta tuque avec d'la broche.
Chief1942 Posted February 2, 2015 Posted February 2, 2015 Sith, Recently went down that road you are on. I went with an ASUS Z97A MB, Intel i5 4690K, 16 GB memory, and two GTX780-DC2 cards in SLI. DCSW runs great with this setup :thumbup:and I have very little overclock on the CPU and none on the GPU's (yet). Both the MB and the processor are reasonably priced currently but one would probably be better off investing in the newer GTX 970 single card approach due to it's fine features. I am anticipating that DCSW 2.0 makes better use of SLI, the only reason I went with those two cards I use. And since they are "older" tech, they are not as expensive. $$$$ is always an issue with most of us.:music_whistling: I supposed we can dream of our ultimate machine if that were not the case, but alas. Intel i5-4690K Devil's Canyon, GForce TitanX, ASUS Z-97A MB, 16GB GDDR3 GSkill mem, Samsung SSD X3,Track IR, TM Warthog, MFG Crosswind pedals, Acer XB280HK monitor,GAMETRIX KW-908 JETSEAT
ED Team NineLine Posted February 2, 2015 Author ED Team Posted February 2, 2015 Yeah, new GPU(s) will come a little later, this is just a start patching the weaker points of my current system... I know the processor is a little overkill and 16 GB of mem probably is a little too, but I do enough graphic stuff to warrant it, and when the wife clears any spending I better swing for the fence :) Forum Rules • My YouTube • My Discord - NineLine#0440• **How to Report a Bug**
outlawal2 Posted February 2, 2015 Posted February 2, 2015 Unless you are a heavy user of apps that take advantage of multi core as well as multi threading, I would still recommend that I5 over the I7 based on your repeated statements that money is an object.. YES I7 is better, but only in certain circumstances and based on what I have read I believe you are better served buying the hottest I5 you can get your hands on and using the saved dollars for a good GPU in the future... I'll price compare the higher I5's and see what I am saving, but the taxman was kind this year, so I figured I would go for it :) Forum Rules • My YouTube • My Discord - NineLine#0440• **How to Report a Bug**
SkateZilla Posted February 2, 2015 Posted February 2, 2015 Avoid the 970, get the 980, 970 has memory,bus and SM issues Windows 10 Pro, Ryzen 2700X @ 4.6Ghz, 32GB DDR4-3200 GSkill (F4-3200C16D-16GTZR x2), ASRock X470 Taichi Ultimate, XFX RX6800XT Merc 310 (RX-68XTALFD9) 3x ASUS VS248HP + Oculus HMD, Thrustmaster Warthog HOTAS + MFDs
159th_Falcon Posted February 2, 2015 Posted February 2, 2015 Not really, its just that they are/were advertised to be something they were not. You will only run into problems whit the 970 if you use more then ~3.5GB of VRAM Have one myself, and not encountered any problems. outlawal2 Posted February 2, 2015 Posted February 2, 2015 I'll price compare the higher I5's and see what I am saving, but the taxman was kind this year, so I figured I would go for it :) Then if cash flow is not an issue then absolutely go for it... I7 is a kick-ass processor and you will certainly NOT be disappointed.. "Pride is a poor substitute for intelligence." RAMBO
ED Team NineLine Posted February 24, 2015 Author ED Team Posted February 24, 2015 So I ended up with: Gigabyte Z97X-UD5H Black i7 4790K Gskill Mem 16gigs I am still rocking my old GTX 580... but tell you what, I still have seen a considerable performance boost across the board even though 3D Mark didnt really show much of a change (which I didnt expect)... Now the saving for the 970 starts ;) Forum Rules • My YouTube • My Discord - NineLine#0440• **How to Report a Bug**
