Stuge Posted July 28, 2014 Posted July 28, 2014 Fakum, remember that your fears are irrational :) Not knowing things is perfectly fine. If you don't know something but want to know, just ask. Most people are nice that way.. Getting an occasional teamkill is nothing to worry about. About finding targets.. don't forget to read the briefing! That often clarifies many things. You can get the briefing in-flight too, just press alt-b. And remember to scroll through all the pictures related to the briefing! Some servers show enemy targets on the f10 map in real time, this of course makes finding them very easy... http://www.104thphoenix.com
Fakum Posted July 28, 2014 Posted July 28, 2014 Thanks for the encouragement. I was in the 104th last night. I was a bit overwhelmed, bit to much chatter on TS to ask questions, especially when there were a couple seperate teams trying to accomplish seperate goals, this caused some communication issues, guys were trying to talk to thier group member, while another group was trying to do the same. Not horrific but not much opportunity to ask or advise without stepping over someone. I had some fun though! xcom Posted July 28, 2014 Posted July 28, 2014 I only see 2 or 3 servers indicated here, have you guys tried the various servers that are out there? There is a large variaty of designers who have developed dedicated scripts for thier servers, just a small example of awesome open/no password servers that support teamwork, side balancing and cooperation I recommend - STP - they are running many different missions with a lot of hard work put into them, check them out! 2Rima - some of the best training missions and great custom scripting missions I saw for UH-1H. -=WAR=- - Great dedicated scripts for large scale battles with objectives and points to spend on various options. DOW - Excellent P-51 action, they are also very nice guys you can usually jump in and join them. ENOs - He has very nice missions and usually you can find participants in the SimHQ TS. Last but not least, I invite you all to join DCS Israel, we have a rotation of missions which go from large scale traininig missions to hardcore PVP missions and Coop missions. You could join a channel with less people, maybe invite someone there if you need some help. I surely help out anyone, all anyone needs to do is ask. There are no stupid questions.. Of course if chatter is combat related and urgent, you should let that be sorted out first. But if there's just random chatter, "stepping on" others to ask your question is perfectly fine i think :D http://www.104thphoenix.com
Fakum Posted July 28, 2014 Posted July 28, 2014 I have tried a few other servers, typically, I find they are empty when I go in though. I have seen the Isreal server, but pardon my ignorance, I just assume it would be primarily people speaking another language that I am not capable of,,, Now that I have clicked on the link, it seems that may not be the case at all,,, thank you for your feedback. wingshigh.g Posted September 21, 2014 Posted September 21, 2014 Hi, I am new to this MP environment, got onto a couple of servers and flew around but couldn't find any opponent. But the system shows the status of battle somewhere all the time, for example someone killed someone with AIM-120...Sometimes I could see what's left from an air combat. Reading over this thread I realized I may not be the only one. When I played single player, waypoints and radar are what I use to find battlefields, is it the same for MP? Sounds like teamspeak server is important, but is that it? Thanks.
Fakum Posted September 21, 2014 Posted September 21, 2014 I would say that it is imperative. Typically when you view the server list, they include their Teamspeak server. I would advise joining it, although there are many not on it, yet on their server, you would however typically find some on it, then you can ask what their current area of operation is. You may hear back "Delta" for example, this would correlate to perhaps waypoint 4. you would want to view the mission briefing prior and during to confirm this and other matters of interest for example. wingshigh.g Posted September 21, 2014 Posted September 21, 2014 Thanks Fakum. I wonder why none of the sensors pick up anything?
Fakum Posted September 21, 2014 Posted September 21, 2014 Are you referring to OWN and Group ID on the TAD? wingshigh.g Posted September 22, 2014 Posted September 22, 2014 Sorry, I just realized that I have not identified the plane I fly. I at this time fly the F-15. I was referring to that my radar does not pick up anything when the system is constantly announcing combat result from somewhere...
Fakum Posted September 22, 2014 Posted September 22, 2014 oh,, Im only flying the A-10C, I cant speak for the F-15 or its radar system, sorry, but I do know they wont be on my TAD Windows 10 Pro - 64 Bit / ASUS ROG Strix B650E-F Gaming / AMD 7800X3D / G.Skill Trident Z5 NEO 64GB DDR5 6000 Ram / SSD M.2 SK hynix Platinum P41 2TB / MSI Gaming GeForce RTX 4090 SUPRIM Liquid X 24G / SteelSeries Arctis 7 Headset /LG-Ultragear 38" IPS LED Ultrawide HD Monitor (3840 x 1600) / Track IR4 / Thrustmaster TPR Pendular Rudder Pedals / Virpil HOTAS VPC Constellation ALPHA-R & VPC MongoosT-50CM3 Throttle
Flanker52 Posted September 29, 2014 Posted September 29, 2014 Recently tried MP. It was fun but damn it was laggy at times. Especially near the airports where lots of other players were flying and taxing. Do you guys typically reduce graphic settings when going MP? Does that help at all or or is the lag pretty much just from the connection.
Fakum Posted September 29, 2014 Posted September 29, 2014 I find the lag random personally. WildBillKelsoe Posted October 4, 2014 Posted October 4, 2014 With no labels, no TAD indication and both sides fielding NATO and Russian units, how can I tell friend from foe? I'll need guidance from more experienced pilots. You did mention you loaded a TGP on A-10. You could circle the target from 6000 feet and zoom in to see if its Abrams or T-90. Alternately, extend out 5 miles, use HUD as SOI, slew the HUD TDC over suspected target location, lock it, then slave TGP to that target or near it, look over TGP and set as SOI (passing on SOI) then look closer from afar. I remember when I was flying not in 104th but DCS Mercs, we were all A-10C's, 2 of my guys (total 4 excluding me) got hit by SAM. I spot the trail and when everybody is running scared, I use the above trick to engage that SAM. It felt good that as support unit I did it well.. AWAITING ED NEW DAMAGE MODEL IMPLEMENTATION FOR WW2 BIRDS Fat T is above, thin T is below. Long T is faster, Short T is slower. Open triangle is AWACS, closed triangle is your own sensors. Double dash is friendly, Single dash is enemy. Circle is friendly. Strobe is jammer. Strobe to dash is under 35 km. HDD is 7 times range key. Radar to 160 km, IRST to 10 km. Stay low, but never slow.
Revan Posted October 13, 2014 Posted October 13, 2014 (edited) I tend to mostly stick to flying on the 104th as it is the most populated combat server. Usually I hop on TS, although most of the time I stay silent as there is too much noise at my house. Most of the A2G guys work together via TS, and now there is a lot shorter of a distance between the red fighter base and the blue A2G Target Area, and when any enemy A2A guys get near the ground pounders, the blue A2G and A2A guys seem to work very well together. Although, The people limit is low on that server, and it will sometimes crash, I think it is one of the better DCS servers. (although I sometimes wish that they have some weather and all hours of the day, and not change maps at ingame sundown.) I recently discovered the S77th server, they have a bunch of really well done modded aircraft on their website (like F-4, F-14, F-15E, F-5, MiG-19, F-35, F-22, Eurofighter Typhoon, F/A-18D. All the aircraft have a choice of cockpit and avionics (like for the F-18, a choice of either the Su-27 or Su-33 cockpits with either their avionics, or the avionics from the Su-25 so you can use the SEAD missiles. You have to pick which setup you download, as only 1 can be installed at a time.)) and seem like a decent training/ messing with modded aircraft server. Although usually they have like only 3 or 4 people on it. (when I first got on it, a bunch of the 104th people went to it when the 104th server crashed). P.S.: I fly the A-10C, Su-25/t, F-15C, MiG-29, Su-27, KA-50, and UH-1H. Edit: the s77th server not whatever I was thinking. Edited October 13, 2014 by Revan DCS: F-4E really needs to be a thing!!!!!! Aircraft: A-10C, Ka-50, UH-1H, MiG-21, F-15C, Su-27, MiG-29, A-10A, Su-25, Su-25T, TF-51
